My hairdresser had used it the night before she did my hair, and I complimented her tan (it just looked like she had just gotten back from vacation), and when she said it was from a bottle I couldn't believe it. I had NEVER had good luck with that (and had not tried in several years). So I got brave and tried it that night, and the next day I had family photos! It worked GREAT!!!!! I have had so many compliments, and no one could tell it was from a bottle/spray. :)
This was my first time trying St. Tropez and I have some mixed feelings. I'm an experienced tanner, however this one was a struggle. The smell of this is very perfumey. That perfume smell lasts for the entire 8 hours and only gets worse as the developing DHA mixes with the smell of my ex's grandma's perfume to really assault the senses. Be prepared for difficult application. You are going to blend until your arm muscles hurt. Apply in a cold room or use it as hot yoga. Either way, prepare accordingly. The guide is a black-green color. I can't leave the house with this on. This is streaky, dark and insane looking if you're lighter skinned. Maybe if your skin tone is already quite deep, you could put this on in the morning and go, but not otherwise. I have applied this twice now. The first time, I used the mitt St. Tropez offers, left it on for 8 hours hours, rinsed and was the most delightful combination of shades that I have ever turned from a self tanner. Orange with black, ashy looking patches. Very tiger-y. However, this isn't Halloween and I was not going for that specific look this time. The second time, I used a kabuki brush for almost everything. I really globbed the stuff on this time. Do not skimp. If it looks like it's pulling the tanner away from your skin while your attempting to blend, just keep blending. I only left the product on for 4 hours the second time, while awake. The first time, it looked like cocoa powder exploded in my bed. I also used lotion on my entire body prior to applying the second time, which I know is usually a no-no, but the finish was so odd the first time, I wanted to try this. This mousse is sticky and never feels fully dry on my skin. I powdered up like I was about to slide into a gimp suit. That helped. The 4 hour results are perfect. Even my feet, hands and wrists! It took about 14 hours for the color to fully develop. Color is natural, no streaks. Frigging lot of work though! For the price, they should send a dude to help.

I used to use this tan RELIGIOUSLY back in 2020/2021. I then started to experiment with other tanning products, but always found myself gravitating back towards this one. I recently purchased it after not using it for about a year. I have no idea what happened, but this is definitely not the same tan I used a couple years ago. It doesn't get dark, it washes off in the shower, and it simply does not give a tan. I even went ahead and added another layer, slept in it to ensure it could fully develop, and washed it off the next morning just to see that I am the same exact color, if not paler than the day before. It gives the SMALLEST tint of color to your skin, but is DEFINITELY not "extra dark" I would've been better off purchasing a tan from a drugstore and saving myself $50

This tanner is the worst I've ever tried. Ive been using self tanner for over a decade and this is by far the worst I've tried. No matter how well you prep for the application, it does not go on smooth or even, it literally never dries. From the time you apply it, to the time you rinse it off, it feels as if you just applied it. When I use self tanner, I apply in the middle of the day, sleep with it on and then rinse the next morning to achieve the best and darkest tan possible but with this, not only does the color guard rinse off but most of the tan does as well. I've noticed the tan pretty much completely rinses off on my chest but my legs stay dark so it appears very uneven. When it begins to fade, it looks very patchy. I would've returned this but didnt keep my receipt and figured I'd tough it out through the bottle but I ended up just purchasing Loving Tan Ultra Dark which Iove. Do not waste your money on this.

This will not dry on your skin. At all! Also, this will last you approx one day before it washes off, even with proper exfoliation and moisturizing. Ive used many self tans & this is one of the worst. Save your money and but a different product.

Ive used every self tanner from st.tropez, minetan, st.moritz, tarte, tan water ect and this is truly game Changing!! I think bad reviews are coming from people who use it wrong. I apply 2 pumps on each my shins, 3 on each of my thighs, 3 on each of my arms and do the smallest 1/4 pump on a makeup brush for my face. You have to move extremely quickly with this self tanner it dries down faster than any type ive used before. Do not leave a glob of foam sitting on you, only pump the product when you are ready to blend it. Then, leave it on for 8 hours and rinse with WATER ONLY do not rub your skin in the shower or use any soap or body wash. Just rinse under water until the water is clear. Then get out and immediately apply lotion. It looks so dark brown and natural for me. It lasts 7 days and fades very evenly!

I personally love this tan. It's dark without being orange and in my opinion it is darker than just the "dark" option that St Tropez sells and it is worth buying this shade. I think it's fairly transfer proof and blends very well. The biggest difference between this shade and the others is the consistency. This tan is more runny and pigmented rather than a creamy ultra blendable foam but you do get a darker tan.

I put this on last night and made sure I put it on evenly. I used the mit to apply to the majority of my body, and since I don't have a back applicator I just used a dark hand towel folded in thirds so it could use used to apply to the top middle of my back where my hands couldn't reach. I used a large round makeup brush (like the very soft, large round but flattened on the end brush) to apply to my fingers, toes, and face. This really made the application super smooth. I waited a couple minutes to make sure I was dry and then i just put on sck clothing to sleep in. I got up in the morning and showered off with mostly just warm water and gentle soap where needed. The color is fantastic and there is absolutely no streaking or areas that look bad (to include on my hands and feet). I think the way I applied definitely helped, but I have to credit the formula as well. I'm going to apply it again tonight to my legs to get them a shade darker because they are always the worst at taking color whether fake or in the sun. However, the color all over I got from this is incredible! I wish I would have taken a before picture so I could show comparison photos but it didn't cross my mind that I would even write a review and want those photos until I saw how great it turned out. I am VERY fair with red/pink undertones and this looks great!

The only thing extra dark about this is the trace… it practically ALL washed off after a rinse. I put it on and waited 12 hours and this is all I got out of it, definitely returning. Not worth the price.

I had an easy time using this product with a mitt, I think it blends great (I showered, exfoliated, shaved, moisturized before). It looked nice and dark, but even after 10+ hours of having it on, it all came off when I rinsed off. Do not recommend.

I put it on waited the max time and it all came off once i showered. Very disappointed

This is such a beautiful color. I have not Noticed streaking or any problems with application. It does have a strong self tanner smell however I think the color is worth the smell. This is absolutely the best and dark is self tanner I have ever used!!!! Apply with a mitt to avoid streaking. Sounds crazy but you can use a Mr Clean magic eraser to take off the areas you do not want the self tanner (like the heels of your feet/ palms of your hands or wrists)

This is my favorite self tanner, i've been using this for 5yrs and i love it, i've tried all kinds of spray tan but this stole my heart. I do exfoliate first before putting this on and putting moisturizer around my knees and elbows and feet as i don't want darker feet, make sure you shake if well before using and then spread it all over your body (I only put this on my body) not on my face, then let it dry for 30 mins or so, if you want ultra dark i let it sit on my skin overnight but i waited first for an hour before putting my pajamas and go to bed, Warning it may stain your sheets but you can always wash the sheets and it doesn't stain permanently, this gives me natural tan after, i preferred overnight bcos i'm pale and i wanted that exotic look but 4hrs if you want medium tan or 1hr if you want a nice warm glow. Moisturize alot to keep your tan nice, this is not streaky spray tan which is good but make sure don't touch it while the tan is developing.

People saying this didn't work for them aren't using it correctly! Exfoliate, then moisturize dry areas before applying. Avoid getting wet for the recommended time on the bottle then rinse off in the shower. The tan develops over a 24 hr period. It's that easy! Anyhoo. I've used most of St. Tropez products and this is by far my favorite. The lighter formulas give a good natural looking tan. But the Extra Dark looks so beautiful! I always get compliments when I use it and not a soul knows it's a fake tan. 😌 It can be a bit drying, but I use a nice hydrating moisturizer daily to keep my tan looking good and skin feeling nice. Highly recommend using the tanning mitt to apply, as well as the tanning facial spray for easy application to your face. So go get you some so you can be a bronze goddess like me ☀️

I have tried other bronzing mousses from St. Tropez and this is by far the best one. I originally used this and found nothing wrong, but I figured why not try other products from them, especially if they're rated higher. I tried the express tan 123 where it says if you leave it on 3 hours, you'll get the darkest tan. I did not feel that it was dark at all, so the next time I applied, I slept in it. It was darker, but it gave me more of an orangey tan than this extra dark mousse. This one goes on kind of green, which I like, because the next day it is more of a natural brown/olive tan rather than orange. I have seen other reviews about this product where people have said it dries too fast and is streaky- I don't have this issue. Even when it seems like it's dried, you can use the mitt to even it out. You might have to add a little more product to the mitt, but even if it's been over an hour after I apply this and I get a water drop on my skin or something else happens where the tan streaks or is ruined, I can still go grab the mitt and even it out. Especially after a shower, any streaks usually fade away. I would wear loose, dark clothes (I have my "tanning flannel and sweats") and leave this on for at least 6 hours, ideally 8+. Sleep in it. It will be lighter after a shower, but that's pretty much every self tanner… I find that it still gradually builds over the next 24-48 hours even after you shower. I love this product and won't be switching it up again :)

Pros: -Absolutely no transfer onto sheets/clothes after sleeping with this on - Smells good (initially) - It came out of everything that I got it on. (Painted wall, clothes etc) - Not really sticky but you feel gross after applying - fries fast (pro and con) - Not orange, nice brown color - Great color guard Cons: - SMELLS TERRIBLE FOR DAYS. That DHA smell lingers. I've taken three showers since applying this and I can still smell this product on my skin. It's nauseating. - Hard to blend since it dries fast so it looks "splotchy" (but splotches wash off in shower making it more even) - 80% washes off in the shower. I was a sunkissed queen before the shower but after taking that first shower, I had more of a medium tan. I wouldn't consider this a product that gets you "extra dark" - The product was darker on certain areas of my body. My face lost the most color, my arms and legs kept the most color. Not sure why. - Uneven application on hands and feet while using the St Tropez mitt. I used cotton rounds for my feet and face. Overall, I would not recommend buying this. I'm not saying the brand is bad because the other self tanners from this brand have good reviews. I just ordered Bondi sands to see if that works better.

I never write reviews but this is absolutely horrible. Be aware it gets alllllll over your sheets, clothes, and it leaves horrible patches while sleeping, and some of it will rub off. Never again! Zero stars if I could.

i've tried A LOT of different self tanning brands and this one is by far the best. (i do use the glove to apply as well) this specific one is my go to! it has a green base to cancel out pink/red tints on the skin so you get a realistic tan. and it's definitely the darkest tan i've ever even seen in a self tanner. i put it on at night, stand to let it air dry for maybe 10-15 mins and then i lay with no clothes on, on a dark blanket the rest of the night and wash off in the morning. i find this to be the best way for me so i don't get any water or streaks as it dries. it washes off to a perfect tan and i always get compliments the following day also just want to point out that *if* you do get a few streaks as you apply it and even if it looks like it dried streaky, it's always rinsed off to be even (at least in my experience)

while true that the guide color is extra dark, it completely comes off in the shower. when i apply my self tan, i shower, wax, and moisturize the morning of and then apply the self tan that night. the next morning i hop into a lukewarm shower and rinse off without soap and pat try with a fluffy towel. once i've showered i look a shade or two darker but i'm extremely fair and i want a dark tan! sadly my search continues. :(

I tried this a few years ago when it was new and loved it. I always got compliments on my tan and people thought I had just gotten back from an island. I switched to Loving Tan because it dries faster and is easier to apply but figured I'd try this again since I remembered it having great color. They must have changed the formula because it's not the same at all! The guide color is so dark (like an obnoxious greenish dark, and I have neutral/olive undertones and like as dark of a tan as possible) obviously you're not going to get as dark as the guide color but it's almost a joke because it all rinses off and you're left with a light tan maybe a couple shades darker. It takes forever to dry and stays sticky forever, which I was expecting, but it's not worth it for the minimal color payoff. I leave it on for over 8 hours (usually at least 10). At the 8 hour mark it still doesn't feel completely dry and is still a little tacky. My husband even noticed I wasn't nearly as tan as usual. Definitely not the tan to use if you're a mom with a baby or young toddler that wakes up at night (I realize that this is my problem and not the companies fault, but just a warning/advice to other moms) because it stays tacky for hours and I have to put on a hoodie and make sure all my skin is covered so nothing transfers to her. Never had to do this with Loving Tan. It's dry before I get woken up and I'm actually dark in the morning. 100% do not recommend. Maybe if the color was as good as it was before then it would be worth being tacky for 8+ hours, but you're a tacky mess that doesn't get a tan. Wish I'd stuck with Loving Tan this time but at least I know for the future!

This is an amazing product. It does have a learning curve. If you are used to self tanner this is great. You do need to work quickly, in small sections. It has a very dark guide. So this is a stay at home while it does its thing product. This is the only product that does get me dark. So it's worth the extra work:

Drys quick so work fast, better if you are more experienced with mousse tanner. Great color that lasts for super pale girls like meee

Some nuances I noticed about this tan unlike other products: it turned my armpit area green. It was very dark pigmented but didn't actually make my skin darker. I wore it for over 6 hours (by mistake, the water in my apt complex was turned off so I couldn't wash it off when I wanted to lol) so I was worried it would be TOO dark. On the contrary it wasn't dark at all!! I'm going to stick with the 1 hour tan and the regular dark tan.

I bought this hoping it would be good for medium olive toned skin and it was after two coats but after the second coat it broke my legs out in a rash and made my body itch so bad. I do have sensitive skin and I'm sure it doesn't do that to everyone.
Dina from Chicago
I use nothing else. By far the best and within hours I look like I went on vacation. Perfect!!!!!
After reading some of the reviews on here I decided to make one myself…I think the people saying it's streaky or a poor product aren't applying it correctly. I never have any problems or streaks because you can just apply a little more to the mitt, and even it out..even if it's already dried. It is sticky but aren't most fake tans? I just apply it at night, wear a flannel and sweatpants or other loose clothing, and sleep on it…it typically takes at least 4 hours to get a nice tan but if you can leave it on for 12 you'll be super dark :)
Rbock from Washington DC
the regular dark mousse far better than this one--you get a darker tan. This one looks like it's struggling, as in, when you apply it, it looks watery. Go for the regular dark because you'll get better coverage and a darker tan. I know, it's counterintuitive, but trust me and all the other reviewers who say the same thing.
