The top row looks similar to volume 1. I bought this, thinking I could make a custom palette by combining them. The formula is nice and lasted all day but I wish Tarte would've put more effort into the palette itself. It's nothing diff than all the other palettes they release.Most Helpful Critical ReviewExtremely disappointingI'm a BIG fan of the first Clay Play Palette. This is SUCH a huge disappointment. If you have the original, don't bother with this one. The highlighter is useless. I've now seen COUNTLESS tales of the highlighter arriving shattered (it happened twice to me). It's extremely fragile, so travel (which is supposed to be a plus of a multitasking palette) is impossible. Even intact, the highlighter is a powdery, glittery mess. Though the blush is nice and two of the shimmers are good (the middle one is chunky), you're far better off sticking with the first one (since all the mattes are the same for the most part) and grabbing a blush and a single shimmer shadow and highlighter if you want them. I was SO EXCITED about this launch. There's a reason it's not on Tarte's website yet and that Tarte is barely promoting it. I can only assume it's because they're trying to figure out a way to explain the lazy packaging. I've NEVER EVER seen a brand RE-USE the same packaging (names and all) for a new product. Onyx is associated with black (as in CP 1), NOT a mid-toned shimmer. Timber is brown, NOT a highlight shade. And Sm0ke is a gray or deep gray, NOT a light shimmer. It's a joke. They can play it off all they want but it was flat out lazy. The names don't even make sense in the new palette. Unfortunately, the colors dont look anything like they do online or on the box. Several of the colors are not even close to the same. I need to make them work, but Im not sure how. I also gave it two stars because the colors suck. I didn't think it could be possible to complain that soemthing is simultaneously lacking in pigmentation and overly orange and hard to blend, but it's this palette. The bronzer is far too orange for me, and doesn't blend well. The blush is also off, too grey brown on my skin. The highlighter is nice. The eyeshadows are terrible. They all look chalky and barely show up, even the shimmer ones. I have a rosy peach light compelxion. If they are chalky on me, I can not imagine them doing better on deeper complexions than mine. It honeslty feels like a palette you would give a child to play with. E for effort y'all. Please redo this and give us some shade choices or customization options? I'm a huge Tarte fan & have many of their products. That being said, the quality of this is on par with other eyeshadow palettes. It's pigmented, blends well & smells nice. The COLORS, however, were not the ones in the pics & not like the descriptions!! The eyeshadows are so much more yellow/orange than you would think from the descriptions or pics. I'm neutral but lean a little cool & these eyeshadows are not flattering. Stone is a rosy gold color & smoke is just an orange/gold. Base/lighter colors all lean yellow. I've been using the palette for over a week now and find the looks I have been able to create look natural and have a healthy glow. I have fair skin with red hair and blue eyes. I have very sensitive skin and I did not react to any of the products. I generally don't wear products that have fragrance due to my sensitive skin but the vanilla fragrance does not bother me and the scent dissipates quickly once it is applied. It smells like vanilla icing. The only criticism I have about the product is the highlighter is a little glittery for my liking but I still receive compliments when I wear it.
