I've used this at least 15 years. Used Clinique before. The 3 piece system did nothing but make my skin worse so I only use the cleanser. Everything else dries my skin and causes more breakouts. I use this and exfoliate twice a day lightly with a dermal cloth right after and I have totally clear skin at least 90% of the time with the two pieces. It's so good that I don't wear any foundation and get lots of compliments on my skin. Even at my age I get few lines and no wrinkles. I also NEVER eat chocolate or drink any colas. If I do I get breakouts and cystic chin acne that hurts. I do wish I could eat chocolate but I like clear skin more so not a problem. Try the towel, diet omissions and this cleanser and you will have a new relationship with your skin and won't need to cover it to look good. Other than removing those 2 items from my diet that's my routine. I've tried some of the popular new cleansers over the years but none worked as well as Proactiv. The more expensive ones caused blackheads so I've always gone back to this cleanser. I also use Squalane oil if I start to get dry - mostly just use by my mouth lines and eye area very lightly. I owned a natural oil business that specialized in organic extra virgin Maracuja, açaí, Rosehip natural shark Squalane and other oils for quite a few years. A fine Japanese deep sea shark Squalane removes wrinkles, lines and dry aging neck redness like magic. It's a byproduct of the fishing trade. I'm not a vegetarian.
I've only been using it for two weeks, so I am still unsure about how it's treating my acne. It hasn't gone away but it hasn't gotten worse. (Also note it's midterms week.) Anyways, I started noticing my grey pillows turning a bleached light brown and my tiffany blue bathroom towels turning light yellow in some spots.
I decided to look up why it was (thought it was my toner) and I found out that acne clearing products usually contain alcohol in it. AKA the active ingredient, benzoyl peroxide. My fault for not looking into it more before hand, but my mom recommended it when I started to break out. There are multiple reviews online saying that proactiv has bleached towels, clothes when sweating, and even hair (eyebrows and bangs/baby hairs).
I gave 3 stars because it too early to tell if it works for me, acne wise, but the bleaching is a major downfall.

With I have very lil break outs
Proactive Cleanse is creamy, not oily. There is no negative odor. Once the cleanse is rinsed off my skin is smooth. I am glad that Ulta Beauty sell the product.

I've been using this since it was sent only through mail direct from Proactiv (since I was 15 and I'm 23 now). This stuff works 1000x better than anything else. I always get comments like "You have perfect skin! Why would you use Proactiv?" The perfect skin is FROM Proactiv. Swear by this stuff!!!

This stuff clears me up overnight. People please! Wash your hands before washing your face! Wash make up off before using, and use on damp skin instead of dripping wet skin. Keep rubbing gently for 1-2 minutes. You will be amazed!

I had acne all over my face for about a year, and I had tried every single face wash and blemish mask/gel/cream, etc. to try and get rid of it. Nothing worked. I started using the Proactive three step system and within 2-3 months I had COMPLETELY CLEAR skin. Going from breakouts all over my face to one or two pimples or none was amazing! I now don't have to buy the entire system and only rely on the cleanser to get rid of my acne. I saw other reviews saying it smells awful and bleached fabric, I have used many bottles and I can say I have NEVER had that problem. It doesn't really have a smell, and if you wash it off correctly with water it shouldn't bleach towels, pillowcases, or fabrics. It does an excellent job of gently exfoliating and cleansing so I don't have to exfoliate at all when I use this cleanser regularly. The only thing I will say is that I had combination skin previously and now my face does not really produce any oil. I have dry skin now so I use a nice moisturizer that protects my skin barrier since this is more of an abrasive cleanser. I have had no problem with acne ever since I started using this cleanser and it is completely worth the price and time to invest.

I've been using Proactiv off and on since it 1st came out. It definetly works to clear my acne but they must have changed it from the original formula. I cannot handle the smell of it anymore! It is very overwhelming and smells like an old grandma's powder perfume (no disrespect to grandmas!). And the scent seems to stick around all day. For this reason alone I'm looking for something else for my breakouts. And it totally bleaches fabric. I have a specific pillowcase that it ruined I use when I wash with this stuff. Save your money, fabrics and nose and buy another acne wash.

My husband and I have been using this original Renewing cleaner (#1), as well as 2 and 3, for over a decade. We swear by it. It has keep our skin looking good into our mid-50's. What I love is that I no longer have to buy it from the Proactive website, which was always a pain. The price seems about the same too.
This cleanser has a gentle texture which is meant to gently scrub away debris including dead skin cells. We use it in the shower, then #2 and #3 after the shower.
Thanks you, Ulta, for carrying this Proactiv product!

I love this proactive product !! I don't use the 3 step products as it does not work for me it irritates my skin , however using just this 1 step cleanser works miracles . I deal with a very oily face specially when summer comes it gets worse but this renewing cleanser has minimized my oiliness and breakouts . Using proactive works and I only purchase this product for actually working . I love my proactive!!

I am older and still get acne. After covid, for some reason I started breaking out really bad and this cleanser tamed it. It's not the best for make up removal but definitely helps with acne and doesn't seem to dry out my oily skin and make it oilier.

I use the 3 step cleansing products every morning on my face to cleanse my face from dirt, oil, acne and razor burn or bumps.

I have used this for probably 25 years now and once you get past that initial first month where it is cleaning deeply it works to maintain clear skin

I've been using this since I was 10. 32 now and it's my go-to. I use it every other day and it's amazing. There is nothing like proactive. I've had acne my entire life and practiv keeps it under control. I can really notice the difference when I run out.

Gross feeling face wash, gritty for exfoliation but with the benzoyl peroxide in there you don't need it. it just irritates your skin. it has several different forms of sulfates which I reacted to, they're harsh surfactants, on top of harsh exfoliating scrub and benzoyl peroxide make this straight up painful. My face turned beet red and blew up so badly my eyes swelled shut. sensitive skin stay as far away as you can. The rest of the line is lackluster, toner isn't very soothing or hydrating, repairing treatment is a misnomer. Awful line. And no matter how well you rinse, this will bleach your towels and your clothes. there are better acne treatment washes out there.

I use the Cleanse every day all year long. Use the Repair as needed - usually every other day or so during the winter, every day during the summer. Astringent inbetween - usually with Repair.

I have been using the original proactiv line for 15 years. When I tried switching to the proactiv+ I immediately started breaking out again so I stuck with the original. I stopped using the toner eventually and now as an adult I double cleanse with this cleanser (a gentle foam cleanser beforehand), then use a hydrating toner, and I use the proactiv moisturizer only at night. I use a more gentle moisturizer during the day with SPF. My skin responds better to benzoyl peroxide than salicylic acid, however most BPO products have 5% or more which is too harsh and drying on my skin. The 2% in this is perfect. This product WILL bleach your towels, clothes, sheets, and pillow case. That is because of the benzoyl peroxide. I've found it only bleaches if you place in the dryer after using.

no matter what anybody tells you do not buy this. This I wish I could give a product zero stars. stuff is horrible and always seems appealing in the commercials. are use this and the next morning I was all broken out on my cheeks and I had tiny little red bumps all over my face. I've had them for about 4 days now. absolutely ridiculous I am throwing this stuff out absolute garbage.
Arie from Baton Rouge, LA
This is my go-to face wash for hormonal acne. While it doesn't completely get rid of the acne during that time of the month, it does a great job of reducing the size and time for those breakouts. It completely rids me or breakouts for the rest of the month, which has not happened before.

Great for acne

After trying SO MANY different cleansers we finally tried proactive. It was the only cleanser (system) that cleared her acne. She is back to being confident and social again!
