I've used the refillable eye & lip pencils for 20 yrs. now they are not refillable or self sharpening. They tend to dry out between uses & then you have to sharpen them to draw a good line around your eyes. It works well & has great stay on power but I miss the refillable self sharpening ones. They last half as long as you sharpen them all away very quickly. I always break them sharpening.I wonder why EL changed them for the worst. I have tried pretty much every different liners from name brand to drug store brand and even different forms of eyeliner. This is the only liner that Stays and doesn't budge. I used the plum color seems to work the best. Its dark enough for a great tight line. This newer style is HORRIBLE! It constantly breaks, and wastes so much when sharpening. At this rate I would have to buy a new one every month or two. This pencil delivers. The reason for 3 stars is the fact that I lose a decent amount of the product when I try to sharpen it. This is my second pencil and I've been using it for several weeks. I was afraid to sharpen it because my last one broke a lot. I thought maybe the first one was old and brittle, but I sharpened my second pencil today for the first time and it broke. Knowing breakage was a problem, I was careful and barely twisted it. It broke anyway. Then another chunk broke off. This pencil is pretty expensive, so I'm not happy that I'm not getting to use what I'm paying for. I reached out to customer service after the problems I had with the first one but never received a response. I have tried pencils and liquid, nothing comes close to this one. It goes on so smooth and stays all day. I am so excited I purchased this item. This eye pencil is inferior. It's difficult to get a nice point, the sharpener doesn't work well. If you put too much tip out to sharpen the whole tip breaks off and you lose a lot! With the old pencil I always knew how much I have left. With this pencil, the inner product which advances when you turn the barrel, is hidden - so I have no idea how much I have left. Forces me to always have a back up. This eyepencil does not hold on the eye as well as the old version. My disappointment was in sharpening the eyeliner. I used an Estée Lauder pencil sharpener. I just couldn't get a clean trim.
