I've been using Chi Iron Guard heat protectant for years on damp hair before my blow out, with Infra Texture as a finishing spray. I saw this at Ulta the other and decided to give it a try. For reference, my hair is thick, but very very fine and straight. It is cut in a chin length bob. I use a large barrel curling iron, the way you use a flat iron. By that, I mean I section hair, start at the scalp and pull the iron up the hair section bending slightly as I go. This gives fullness and a gentle curve, rather than stick straight. I sprayed each section lightly with this Iron Guard Style and Stay spray and then curled as usual. It is fantastic! Gave me huge, fluffy volume with no stickiness and the volume lasted all day! Sometimes I finish with a little Chi Infra Texture just to keep stubborn pieces in place, but in terms of the sheer volume...I haven't used anything that comes close! Again...I can not speak for thick or curly hair but for fine hair that needs volume and is styled with a heated styling tool, I whole heartedly suggest giving this one a try. I continue using the other heat protectant all over my damp hair before blow drying though, because hair as fine as mine needs protection for drying AND styling.
I had high hopes for this heat protection spray, as I've used other Chi products and loved them. The first few times I used this, I was super happy because it smelled *amazing* and made my hair shiny. But, over the next few uses, I noticed my hair was going from silky (right out of bed - tangle free!) to dry, rough, and tangly immediately after straightening. I was confused because A) I was using a heat protector and B) it was instantaneous "damage" following the use of heat tools, and went away after washing. The product sprays on like a protecting wax, very sticky and heavy; You need to brush through it a few times after spraying before you can even think about taking a hot tool to it. I will say my hair is undamaged while using it, but it makes my hair tacky, while causing dryness and matting tangles.

Way too heavy on the hair i thought it would be a good product due to the brand, but it left a nasty, crunchy, greasy feeling in my hair and i didnt have smooth silky hair like i normally would had i not used this product. :/

My nails aren't super long, but they are grown out. Maybe about half an inch long from my finger tips. Because of this, I found the product difficult to spray. The nozzle is like a lot of aerosol nozzles. The button is in the middle and hard plastic wraps from one side, across the front, to the other side of the nozzle. The plastic will block your nail, making it impossible to be able to press down all the way if your nails are long. Because of this, the product came out in short bursts of wet mist instead of an aerosol spray. Leaving a gray cast on my hair. Despite that, I didn't get any hard crunchy feeling. If you are, it's because you're spraying too close or too much. You're also supposed to brush it through to make sure it's evenly distributed and dries properly. It seemed to work decently for my coarse, type 4 hair, but I couldn't get a really good feel for the product because of the aforementioned issue. I ended up returning it for Paul Mitchell's Hot Off The Press Thermal Spray. It's an aerosol spray, works amazingly and has a regular nozzle. I can use it for the initial flat iron and also the touch ups. I also like Kenra's Thermal Styling Spray 19. It's a mist with stronger hold that I find works best only for the initial flat iron. It'll get cakey and you'll get a lot of build up on your hair/hot tools if you try to do touch ups with it, but it should last for a long time.

It leaves my hair feeling a little rough or crunchy (if that makes sense) My hair does not feel smooth when using this product.

Overall a pretty good product, worth the price and last a long time. My hair has always been moisturized and never dry after I use this product. 10/10 I use on my hair every time I style it.

I use this for holding in my hairstyle before I start to curl by hair and after. It does a wonderful job!

I have fine curly hair and need hest protectant. After using this and flat ironing my hair seemed okay, if not a little dry at the ends. I got in the shower a few days later and as soon as the water touched my hair it became super straw like and matted. I had to shampoo my hair FOUR TIMES to make the feeling come out 75% of the way and then deep condition it. Thank God my hair reverted (I only ever straighten on 300 anyway) but it still has this icky dry feeling on some of the ends despite no damage being present. Hopefully there will be improvement next wash.

I bought this a while ago. I've used it for some time, I try to avoid using it, I feel like it makes my hair so nasty dry. When I wash my hair it makes it feel like straw and I don't feel like i can get it all out of the hair. There is a definite difference from when I use it and when I don't when washing. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long and just returned it right after I got it. Now I'm stuck with it. 😭

Do not use this. My hair was unbrushable after using and after blow dry my hair was fried. Nothing has ever done this to my hair. I wish i could sue for damages!!

Every time i diffuse my hair i use this as my last step before drying. I style with my Leave-in/Cream Styler/Mousse/Gel and then spray the protectant through out. Ive notice a huge difference dont use it. For the record ive got fine, but voluminous 3c hair. But i have other curly heads in my household and they too enjoy this and their curls range from 3b (wash and go and diffuser) 4a-b (twists/set and diffuser) and a 2c-3a (used it without diffusing, but aggressively air dries in the sun outside) WE ALL LOVE IT. Plus the SCENT is my absokute fave kind of hair scent

Spraying this on damp long hair & trying to comb through is Impossible! It literally felt like I sprayed Hairspray in my hair!! It made it into a BIG knot!!! Absolutely the worst heat protectant I ever tried! In the trash it went.

I have fine hair so I have to be careful with thermal protectors that weigh my hair down. I tried Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray and am very happy with the results. My hair is protected and not weighed down. I will be purchasing this product again and again.

This is the worse hest protectant I've ever used. It leaves my hair stiff, like hairspray! Terrbile product

I absolutely love the smell of Chi products, but this FRIED my hair. It is the absolute worst heat protectant I have ever used. But it uses some magic to make my hair look so big (in a good way). Like Texas pageant hair big. I had a health issue that caused me to lose about 1/3 of my hair. It makes it more full, bouncy, and thick than it was before. I wish I would have used my normal heat protectant before this to retain hair integrity. I would absolutely suggest using this, but as a thickening spray NOT a heat protectant.

I have fine, dense, silky hair and this stuff turns it into a clumpy nightmare. It makes my hair crusty and tangles my hair. I do not like at all.
