I put it in the fridge around dinner, and the mask is ready for bed time. I am not sure if you wear it with the felt to the face or the beads to the face, but either way feels nice. Also, if you have a headache, you could freeze the mask or put it in the fridge and place it on your forehead.Most Helpful Critical ReviewHeavy sleep maskI bought the mask to help relieve puffiness but it wasn't effective for that at all. It felt too heavy to be an all night sleep mask. I used it for almost a week but ended up returning it. The mask shifted in position in the middle of the night making it uncomfortable so I would wake up and take it off. The only reason I gave it two stars is that it felt nice to put it on at night to have it soothe tired eyes. I would NOT recommend putting this in the freezer - I did and one or two of the beads burst..but have since been keeping it in the refrigerator instead and it has been fine. I have chronic dry eyes and nothing seems to help as much as resting an ice pack on my face for 10 minutes. This one is large enough to also cover the area around my eyes and does not get so cold to be uncomfortable while using. When I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep, I slip this on and I'm asleep almost immediately. When I'd try to go to sleep but felt awake, I literally couldn't keep my eyes shut. But now that I use the eye mask, it's physically impossible to open my eyes. The cooling feature is neat, but I rarely use it. My husband had blepharoplasty and he needed a mask that he could refrigerate and freeze. This one is really comfortable for him. One side is smooth and doesn't stick to stitches, the other side is a soft washable Terry cloth fabric. It also has a Velcro band that goes around the head to help hold it in place. It has little gel beads inside it so that is conforms to the eye area really well. Really cushy beads. Nice durable strap on it. I'm sure this would totally work for puffiness. Very soft.
