I'm not sure if people don't know how to use sunscreen, but this is a great sunscreen. It does not ball up, if it does, you're not layering your other products correctly. It was created to leave no white cast, which it does not. There is no fragrance added which is awesome, it doesn't congest my skin. It's not expensive. The consistency is on the thinner side, but I don't want some thick gloopiness all over. It's definitely not matte, but I love how it makes foundation look and feel so natural.
I recently purchased the Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 50. I normally use the SPF 30, which I absolutely love. The SPF 50 is watery and an enormous amount of it comes out with just a little squeeze of the container. Additionally, it leaves that horrible white, ashy film that does not absorb well at all. The worst part is I had just cleared up my skin and now I'm experiencing a breakout after just two uses of this product. (Photo attached)
The SPF 30 is creamier and nowhere near as watery and messy as thieves 50. I used the 50 for the first time while driving to work this week and it wasted all over my clothes.
Prior to purchasing, did ask the Ulta clerk to explain the difference between the 30 and 50 and she responded with, "I have no idea. I use CeraVe." Anyway…I will be returning it today and exchanging it for the "tried and true," which for me is the SPF 30.
NOTE: I will say, if you're on the beach, the SPF 50 might make more sense, but I would not recommend it for everyday use.

I like the kids version better

I've never used the original 30 spf from this brand, so I cannot compare the two. However, I've given this product 4 days and it has not gotten any better. As soon as I apply it to my face and rub it in, small white pieces begin to form everywhere. The best example I can give is trying to dry wet hands with toilet paper instead of paper towel, the toilet paper will break into small pieces leaving lint looking tissue behind. That's what it does to my face.
It's also runny. So when you turn it over to get some product you may end up with way more on your hand than you needed.
I also do not like the heavy lavender scent.
I have gone in with a second application 10mins after the initial one and it seems to dissolve some of the white specs (not film) but I shouldn't have to do that.
I now have the 30 spf and will be giving it a try tomorrow. I hope it's worth it.

They should call this ashy girl sunscreen. What's the point of a hybrid sunscreen if there's still a white cast? They might as well have made a 100% mineral sunscreen. Honestly all of their products are not good.

I've been a fan of the original sun screen for a few years but the hybrid is not for me. The product does not absorb into my skin, leaving a bit of texture. Back to the original.
Also the product is loose causing an excessive amount to come out of the bottle.

This is the only sunscreen I use. It has a broad spectrum and it doesn't leave a dead man grey ash color on my skin.

This works great on my skin I absolutely love it

This is one of the worst things ive ever put on my face, it smells like the most nastiest perfume ever!!! It doesnt even smell good. First of all it leaves a white cast, it smells bad, it rolls off your face/neck, and doesnt pair good with orher products.

I purchased the spf 30 (spray) prior and loved, but realized it didn't last as much as I wanted it to. So I wanted to try lotion instead. I entered the store and noticed the 50spf and thought, "even better"…long story short. It gave me small small heat rashes, breakouts. So a big NO

I absolutely love this sunscreen. It was moisturizing and it didn't make me look ashy!! Perfect!!

I really like this product it is nongreasy or skin clogging. I like to apply it and then set it with a powder. It leaves w glowy finish and perfect for a no make up makeup look. Only downside is it does spill out easily…. And did kind of get gunky around the applicator which was wasteful

When I ran out of the Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30, I was excited that they came out with the SPF 50. I've been living in New Mexico for the month and going without sunscreen is not an option. Disappointed to find my face white as a ghost after my morning walk. I should've know something was different when the packaging didn't specifically mention "Ultra Sheer, No white residue." Unfortunately I will be returning.

I use the SPF 50 hybrid. It is very nice and protects giving a beautiful glow thin and easy to blend its. Not thick with a chalky texture like most others.!

As soon as you open this bottle, it spills all over the place. This sunscreen is very similar to every sunscreen at the drug store.

I use SPF 50 and it's hands down the best sunscreen, I have oily skin and it makes it so well without the white cast I just wish they would make a higher SPF than 50

i have rosacea so i've always had a hard time finding sunscreens that don't cause my skin to freak out and this is one of my favorites that i've tried. it wears great under makeup which is hard to find when you have sensitive skin like mine.

I heard positive comments about this sunscreen and wanted to try it out since its very hot where I live. The bottle says fragrance free, which is a lie the smell is horrendous. And when I tried to get some from the bottle it was extremely watery and went everywhere. I applied it to my face thinking it would get better but was dead wrong. As I rubbed it in it started to flake and ball up. Not only that but the smell lingers on your face so now both my face and hands smell bad. Not worth it, buy something else.

This product is amazing. I do not go without it.

Love this. It protects skin from sun and gives me a glow. But I have normal skin. It may be good for oily skin skin.
Jay21 from Orlando
As others have mentioned, it's very watery and takes forever to rub in. The 30SPF is where it's at.
Jaz from IL
Dont waste your time buying it.

Over all I love Black Girl Sunscreen but this hybrid mixture isn't it. Like may have said its watery and leaves a white cast after rubbing for 3 mins. But i did notice that after being in the sun it left my skin glowing. Its that initial part of getting thw sun screen on that makes me question it. But i will use it until I'm finished with the bottle.
Meg from Stockton Ca
Very watery, makes skin dry, leaves a film and causes black heads.
