I have thick, fine textured hair that is mostly straight but somewhat frizzled with a slight wave when air dried. Because I have thicker hair I did a quick blow dry with my regular dryer before using this as recommended in the instructions. I found the straightener itself to be fairly lightweight compared to other dryer/styler tools and that was nice. It was easy to hold and maneuver. The drying capabilities were quite good even when used on the lower setting (recommended for my hair type) and it didn't take long at all to dry my hair. The straightening aspect of the product left a bit to be desired for me though. As you can see in the side by side picture, left side is done with just the straight shot tool and it isn't as straight as I would get with a regular straightener. When using this tool the ends looked somewhat frizzy and not as sleek as when I use a regular straightener or a round brush type blow drying tool. Even after going over it multiple times trying to tame and style it I couldn't seem to get it to make my hair as sleek as I would like. In the side by side picture the right hand photo shows how my hair looks after using my brush blow drying tool which creates the more tamed look I would prefer. I also didn't like how the bristles on the straight shot seemed to snag individual hairs and pull at them as I would reach the ends. Overall it didn't work great for my hair type but I do think that this could work well for someone who doesn't have fine texture hair.Most Helpful Critical ReviewBetter for finer hairI have recently seen a lot of advertisements for Drybar products, and have been intrigued about how they would work out for my hair. I finally had the opportunity to try the Drybar straight shot blow dry flat iron. Like the other dry bar products this straightening iron is bright yellow with gray accents. It has a wide 1.25" plate and small, short but stiff bristles to help brush your hair out and create tension. The iron was created to give you the effects of a blow dryer with a structure that the flat iron provides . I really like that you can use it on wet hair and that it has three different temperature settings. I really wanted to like this styling tool, but it just hasn't worked out so great for me. While it does everything, it says that it does, it takes me a while to style my hair. It is heavy and large diameter and you have to hold it shut, so it takes some hand strength. It also pull quite a bit of hair out while combing through. It did do a great job straightening if you did small sections at a time and let your hair air dry quite a bit. This drier that I was gifted by Drybar has made it a lot easier to figure out ! It gives my hair a lovely shine and volume but also making sure it's straight and styled well. I personally still go over it with a hot tool after drying just to lock in the style but you can leave it as is after drying. I typically can get a successful blowout with a ceramic round brush and my Dyson, then just have a few touch up spots I need to hit with my straightener.
