I may have strayed and gone to other brands, but with this lipstick, they've reeled me back in. We've all heard of Ruby Woo, the universally flattering and iconic red. It's the red that has built up a cult following over the years. Almost every woman I know has at least one tube in her arsenal of lipsticks. This latest launch by MAC has now introduced this beautiful red in a few new formulas, including the Powder Kiss Velvet Blur Slim stick. This formula is designed to basically have a matte finish but also provide moisture. Did you hear that? A matte lipstick that also provides MOISTURE! It's the holy grail. It's what everyone woman has been asking for! How can you not love it?? So after applying it, I found that it does have a more soft, subtle look than the original Ruby Woo. But I actually love that. I love that I can wear this lip color every day if I wanted to and I wouldn't look like a crazy person running around with a bright and bold red on a normal Wednesday afternoon. This leaves more of a soft, almost stained, look to your lips. And also, one swipe is more than pigmented. You won't need more. I did find that while it wasn't drying out my lips, it didn't last as long as the original matte formula. There was a bit of a transfer so I'd keep the lipstick nearby for touch-ups. Lastly, can we take a second to appreciate the packaging of this lipstick? It is beautiful! The lipstick is housed in this very chic and sophisticated matte black casing with the MAC logo in gold. It is a sleek design and despite its slim silhouette, the weight of the casing feels good in your hand. It feels expensive and luxurious and I'm here for it! This lipstick does not look like your traditional bullet and you will always have room for it in your evening bag or little clutch. All in all, I give this child of Ruby Woo an A. It's a matte lipstick that feels like a balm. The color payoff is good. It doesn't last as long as I would like, but I don't mind pulling this beautiful lipstick out to reapply. I do hope that MAC comes out with some more shades in this formula. Would love to see some nudes and browns like Whirl, Yash, or Taupe for the upcoming Fall season.Most Helpful Critical ReviewGorgeous color, little staying powerI was really hoping to love the velvet blur slimstick more than I do. The color and pigmentation is beautiful. I got Dubonnet Buzz and it's a lovely shade of pinky mauve. The packaging is luxe and sturdy. The formula is soft, smooth and definitely achieves the blurred lip look. However, it slides off with the lightest touch. Drink, eat, sneeze: it's gone. Barely touch my mouth: lipstick on my hands. It's not drying at all and reminds me of the slim bullet L'Oreal lipsticks that came out earlier this year and I loved! The shade Spice World is on the cooler side of a medium brown making it perfect for fall. In some lighting I thought it was pulling too cool for me, but in the photo and brighter light I love how it looks. The formula is so smooth, slightly blurring, and lasts pretty well while drinking from my coffee cup.
