Usually blemish treatments containing 2.0% salicylic acid as the active ingredient leave my face red and dry (I have dry + sensitive skin, so many things cause kind of reaction for me unfortunately) — this one however does not seem to do anything of the sort. It leaves my skin feeling soothed vs. irritated, and has made a huge difference with clearing up ingrown hair bumps on my neck + effectively reduced the appearance of blackheads on my nose. This little spot treatment bottle has a full 1oz of product in it, so with the way I have been selectively using it, I see this lasting for at last 4-6 months, making it worth every penny - I'll definitely be ordering when this runs out. Even if you're usually sensitive to products containing salicylic acid (like I am), it may be worth giving this product a shot - it made me realize that the rest of a product's formulation can have a profound effect on the overall user experience/efficacy.Most Helpful Critical ReviewSkip - partially worked but left extreme dark marksI tried this product out on two difficult under the skin pimples. One on my forehead and one on my chin. It seemed to be working after the first two nights , but then my pimples (which were skin colored) started to develop serious dark marks. And I don't mean post acne hyper pigmentation, because the bumps are still here. The pimple on my forehead has been replaced with a dark spot pimple and the pimple on my chin has a strange dark surface area around and below the pimple. I'm not sure what happened, as I use a salicylic acid often, but obviously, once these marks showed up I stopped use. I have been using LaRoche-Posay Effaclar products, but their serum is only 1.5% salicylic acid and it was not strong enough. I have tried Peace Out Acne Serum which is 2% salicylic acid but didn't like the smell or texture. The Murad serum is perfect - 2% salicylic acid, no burn, no sting, no bad smell - in fact, no smell at all. There is no excessive peeling and I use it morning and night. I will definitely purchase this again and highly recommend. I am obsessed. I have sensitive, reactive, acne-prone skin. I am a Fitzpatrick Skin Type 4 and have hyperpigmentation. This product works extremely well for my both hormonal cystic acne and regular clogged pores. This targets the acne while being moisturizing and non-irritating (for me at least). I also see a difference in my old hyperpigmentation as well as reducing the amount of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation new acne creates. Knocked off a star due to packaging. It can easily become unsanitary using this product as you either have to pour the product into your palm or dip a cotton bud/Q-tip into the product. For the price, they could have opted for cheaper plastic pump packaging instead of useless frosted glass with a lid that has claims of cutting people. If you are able, this product is great to try & worth the investment. I'm not sure how the product compares to Murad's other acne treatments, however I do like the "cooling" feeling that it offers inflamed skin. The real downside is the packaging! Since it's in a bottle you have to either use a cotton swab to apply the product, or your finger. Neither of which are super ideal. However the last time I used this the metal cap sliced my finger!
