I occasionally use sponges if a product tends to sit kind of cakey or dry, just to help smooth things out, especially in the undereye area. But because I like full coverage, I just prefer brushes. That said, beauty blender has never disappointed when I've had occasion to use it. I especially like the eco friendly mission of this version. I found it still had a good bounce for application, even made of different materials. And it still grew to a good size for use when wet. Another nice thing was one stop shop in terms of makeup application. I was able to put on a full face base with this and got a beautiful natural finish with a full coverage foundation. I'm talking foundation, concealer, and setting powder to get a great overall soft focus high medium coverage. It did soak up more product than my brush, which is expected, but it was worth it for the finish I got. Overall, I think this is a great product. While I still prefer brushes, when the occasion calls for it, I will definitely be using this and it will be my go to for travel, for sure, just because of its ease and convenience! The packing is almost the same as the original but for me it's a harder plastic that you can travel with. The sponge expanded like the original. I do find it easier to clean though.
