I've been using this cleanser daily for the last year and I absolutely love the way my skin feels. I've always had acne-prone and very sensitive skin, so finding this has done wonders for me. Prior to this, I used Cetaphil cleansers until I started getting more hormonal breakouts. This has helped my skin so much! I love the gel-like texture and it has no problem removing makeup without stripping my face. It does have salicylic acid in it which can be drying, so using a moisturizer afterwards is always a good idea, although this has never made my skin feel dry. I had never used any previous formula other than this one as other reviews have mentioned this product has changed. I love this one the way it is, and it absolutely works for me. This product is gentle enough to use on my sensitive skin as part of my daily/nightly routines (paired with Clear Improvements moisturizer, Retinol, Nightamins and a hydrating moisturizer on rotation).
I was a long-time user of the old formulation, with saw palmetto and mint. I used it for almost 15 years, tried other face washes in between, but always went back. I don't get why they changed what was a very popular product from what I could tell. If it's to get in on the activated charcoal gimmick, which I'm guessing is cheaper to produce than the formula with saw palmetto and mint, then that's very, very disappointing. There are dermatology journal articles discussing how charcoal doesn't do anything on face skin, and certainly nothing in the period of time that you would have face wash on. This doesn't have mint so you do not get the fresh feeling afterward. This feels like any other facewash that you could get at a drug store, except it cost 2 or 3 times as much. It's just a weirdly colored mild soap. In summary, 1 star, F, do not recommend, please discontinue. I'm switching facewashes, which was the last product from Origins I was still buying. SMH my head.

I personally had never used the apparent original formula people are so upset over in the reviews so this is solely based on the current product as listed. I love it. I was typically usung a drug store anti acne wash that was doing just fine but i wanted something nicer. Got it home and thought it was a little simple, reminded me of the Biore charcoal cleanser which was intense. This has a similar scent and feel but it is WAY more gentle on my skin. Took a week or so go get used to it, but now it is the only cleanser i use. My skin is clear and even, i hardly get any blemishes, and i am significantly less oily. Love it.

Why change something that CLEARLY everyone was happy with? This new cleanser is awful. My face broke out so bad with this new "formula." I'm currently looking for a new cleanser. Origins lost my business on this cleanser.

The only face wash that gets all of my makeup off including my waterproof eye makeup.

I switched from another cleanser to this one and instantly saw a change in how clean my face felt. I always follow it up with a moisturizer, and it makes all the difference in how clean and smooth my face feels!

I've used this cleanser for a few years now with occasional switching from other lines from origins. Verdict is good. It can be a little bit drying but follow with the charcoal moisturizer and that helps.

I love this! Left my face feeling very smooth. If I liked it this much, I wonder how good the old product must've been for all the comments to support that. Hopefully I didn't just get a sample of the original because I absolutely loved it and want to order more

I've been buying the Zero Oil since my early college days. The smell was 5 stars and it was amazing for my skin. I was so disappointed to learn that they are no longer selling the old version and have this one with charcoal now. Seems like they're adding so much charcoal to things. I've tried my best to give this product a chance because I love Origins but it does not compare to the earliest version! Disappointed. Please listen to your customers and feedback and bring it back.

This new product is not as good as the old. I didn't noticed they chanced the product when I ordered. I wish I still had a stockpile of the old product.

This new product is a poor substitute for the original Zero Oil Deep Pore Cleanser with Saw Palmetto and Mint. I used that original for years and it was perfect! My skin went from oily to clear and baby-soft smooth instantly, and lasted all day. This new formula with Active Charcoal Detoxifying feels like it does nothing to clean, and just feels oily again before long. Really a shame to now have to search for a perfect cleanser all over again. Maybe I can find some old stock somewhere.

The Zero OIl they used to have was THE best cleanser ever. I used this just because I still liked their products, but I do not order anymore. It doesn't foam or clean like the other blend. You feel oily again within a few minutes. If they would bring back the other stuff I would order from them again, but for now I have stopped. Sorry Origins, I like your products but that was the main reason I kept ordering.

This is not an improvement on the original Zero Oil Deep Pore Cleanser with Saw Palmetto and Mint. Both of my young adult children used the old version for years and it was perfect for their skin needs. Neither likes the new formula with Active Charcoal Detoxifying and feel its not clean enough and too heavy. We will begin a search for a new product while wishing that Origins would bring back their wonderful original Zero Oil formula.

Their previous Zero Oil face soap was the best. I never found anything else that worked so well for my skin (and I've tried a lot!). I used it for years. This new soap is terrible… I wanted to like it and gave it a chance but I have tons more blackheads and even breakouts. My face doesn't feel clean. Very disappointed and sad that they discontinued the original and I have to go searching other places for a new face soap again…

I love the clean and invigorating scent of this product and it cleanses so well! I use this AM and PM and it's great for removing makeup.

Why change a formula that worked wonders? This new formula is not good, just please, please, please reconsider bringing back the old formula with Saw Palmetto. The only brand that comes close to the old formula (But not as good) Is La Roche–Possay Effeclair Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser for Oily Skin, yet it doesn't have saw palmetto in it and I think that is the magic ingredient.

I received a sample of this product in a recent order. I really like it- it was refreshing and cleansing feeling. I am getting ready to purchase a full size of the cleanser.

I've gotten at least 3 friends hooked on this product because they once asked me what my night ritual was to remove my makeup. I said I just wash and rinse my face. They asked what about mascara and eye makeup? And I said I just scrub it with the origins black soap and rinse. That's it. They couldn't believe it until they tried it. I have normal to dry skin and have used origins washes for ages. I started when they made a product called mint wash that came in a glass bottle and you could take it back for recycling. Then they moved to plastic then they discontinued it all together and clear improvement is the only thing that comes close to it. The product cleans and leaves your skin ready for moisturizers and toners. It doesn't dry my face or irritate my eyes and I have sensitive eyes! I just hope they don't discontinue this as well.

I absolutely love this product. My face looks so fresh and clean after each and every wash. Then all day long. This is my new absolute favorite product of the Origins line. My old absolute favorite was the eye cream but they changed it and that change is terrible!

I tried this product since it came out because of the discontinuation of zero oil saw palmetto and mint cleanser. It feels slimy and does not lather nor does my skin feel clean afterwards. Zero oil was the one product that I finally found that helped with oil control and reducing pore size, this does not. This product may have use for some, but for me with overly oily skin, this does not cut it. I will regretfully have to go back to biore.

I bought this not realizing the original saw palmetto and mint formula was swapped for this and was greatly disappointed. I've been using Zero oil face wash for 15 years and was my holy grail face wash. This newer formula doesn't break up oil on my face and I broke out two weeks into using this!! Very sad they've replaced the original, the new one does not even come close.

I have been using the original Zero Oil Cleanser for years. Just started using this one. Had to look at the bottle a few times since it has a dark texture. Well, I couldn't understand why I had serious breakouts until I found this one. Nothing had changed in my skincare except this one. Please give us the option to buy the one with the original formula. Thanks.

Why why WHY did you get rid of the original?! I agree 100% with most of these other reviews.. I've been using the original clear improvements for YEARS. One of the few that I could rely on, it washed clean, felt good, kept my skin clear. Then I accidentally bought this w/out noticing it had changed and hated it from the get go. It's thick, goopy, doesn't come out of my travel bottle easily, and it just feels slimy. It's more like a mask. PLEASE bring back the original!! This really really disappointed me.
Rachael from Austin, TX
I have been using the old version for over 10 years and loved it. I am having breakouts and am stuck with another bottle as I bought two of them without realizing I bought something different. Not sure what I'm going to do now as my skin is really sensitive. Bring the old one back!
Veronica91 from Sacramento, CA
I agree with the other reviews… the old formula was much better and I'm holding onto the remaining of what I have left in that bottle. I don't understand why origins has to get rid of amazing products or change ingredients in other products (make a difference plus moisturizer, clear improvement, etc) I guess it's time to start looking for another and more reliable brand which is sad because I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years…

I was skeptical about this product being everyone complains about it on here but I was surprised with how good it is. I love how it suds up. A little goes a long way. I like the subtle scent of wintergreen. I massage it into my skin for about 30 seconds to allow for the volcanic to absorb some of my built up oil and impurities. This is a go to for me now as I have been using it a couple months now.
