I just started purchasing this curl definer a little over a year now and I will use nothing else! I've tried it with and without other products and here's some tips. First off read the directions. It says apply to wet hair not damp! It gets sticky and weird if you don't! First few uses I didn't apply to wet hair and I almost returned it. Second, I find it doesn't hydrate as much as I need with my curls so I pair it with a moisturizer. I apply the moisturizer first and this second and it works perfectly! I get my perfect curls for my hair and ITS NOT CRUNCHY AT ALL! to apply I just flip my head over (I have long hair) and apply about 3 pumps worth each to each side and down the middle. I've tried different amounts and honestly never gotten too much to where it's crunchy. I don't comb it through I just put the product in my hand, rub my hands together, then press my hands together with the hair in between. Then I dry with a microfiber towel and diffuse. About the only product ever to work on my hair. (Try not to be jealous...haha!) I've been on the hunt for a curl cream that would be a good fit and went to Ulta specifically looking for a fragrance free option (there aren't many out there) - I've heard some good things about the Living Proof curl line, so I figured I'd try. If I were to rate this cream solely on its performance, I might give it 3.5 stars - I bet I could have gotten it to work okay with my hair after a few uses. However, the smell was just WAY TOO STRONG. (The tube I bought had a seal over it, and with COVID there is no sampling/testing allowed, so I was rolling the dice on that piece.) It's not an unpleasant smell, just VERY sweet and VERY strong...which was ultimately the clincher for me. I pair this living proof for waves with the Living proof for curls (creams no gels or mousses) & I use a tiny amount of each, dry with a defused & get so many compliments. For reference, I have bleached fine hair, so it is dry. My curls need help getting clumped together on wash day and staying clumped through the styling process. This HELP keeping my curls clumped is what the Living Proof Curl Definer does. After I get my curls how I want them with the LP Definer, then I gently glaze a gel over my curls for hold. Then I diffuse. I have tried many other curl creams but my curls would break apart during the styling process. FYI- if you have very fine hair that's easily weighed down or gets greasy by rich products, then this LP Definer is not your thing. You can not get past day two curls with this stuff because the product makes your hair feel plasticky. I've noticed my hair has been a lot harder to detangle even after a wash. You have to find the right amount to use for your hair, but it's so humid and raining since I used it, and its holding up great with minimal frizz.
