Note— I received this product as a gift as part of a bzzkit, in exchange for a review but that does not affect my opinion. In fact, I did not like the other product I received (the dark circle corrector, and left that one a negative review). I have used other products with glycolic acid before, so I know that my skin responds well to that ingredient, however when I tried this Rapid Dark Spot Correcting Serum— it is super strong! It's definitely the strongest glycolic acid product I have ever used. I had to use it every other day because i was a bit too strong for me to use every day, but I have very sensitive skin. This serum stings for a few minutes over the whole face, But particularly around the nose for me because that area gets a bit dry in the winter. The stinging is not painful, but indicates how strong it is because other glycolic acid products I have tried did not cause any sensation. A little goes a long way— i try to use just one pump for my whole face, but sometimes i have to use 1.5 pumps to get everything, but 2 would be way too much. The directions say to apply to face, neck and chest. I didn't put it on my neck, but I did also apply the product to my chest area and it cleared up some acne I was having there (that's not the main point of this product, but it's a nice side effect). When the serum dries it is very sticky, but this is solved by putting face lotion over the top of the serum. The face lotion goes on easily over the top of the serums and does NOT cause any "pilling" issues that I sometimes have when putting lotion on over other serums.
I don't really have any dark spots to correct at the moment, although sometimes I get dark scars from acne that last several months, and I am excited to try this product on them the next time that happens. My skin looks bright, but I was using a glycolic acid toner every day before I switched to this serum, so there was not a noticeable change for me since I was already using another glycolic acid product in my routine (note— don't use two at once, that would be too much, i stopped using the other one to try this). This serum is easier to put on than the glycolic acid toner I had been using because it is Spreadable and a little sticky, whereas the toner is a liquid an needs cotton pads to apply.
However, this product is a bit strong for me to use long term— I think i will use it in 2-3 week bursts, when I have a skin issue I want to clear up. I have super sensitive skin, so if you don't, then you could use it more often. But if you have very sensitive skin like me I recommend using it every other day instead of every day. Additionally, it caused a small amount of purging on my skin, which is normal when trying a new or stronger acid. Normally purging stops after a few weeks, but I have only been using this for two weeks, which isn't enough time for that to end.
You know when you read reviews and the reviewer is clearly heated and says "I wish I could give this product zero stars"? Ok well I am that person right now lol. This product is just bafflingly awful. I really don't think this is something anyone should put on their face. I received it for free from BzzAgent for review purposes; this is not something I'd ever buy.
Rubbing alcohol is one of the first ingredients and it's HIGHLY and unpleasantly fragranced. Those are both huge no-no's in skincare and one would presume such a high end and expensive brand would be aware of these basic tenets and like...abide by them?
Since I automatically knew I was not putting it on my face in this or any universe, I decided to try it out on the dark/red marks I have on my arms as a result of keratosis pilaris (aka KP aka chicken skin etc, it's like little ingrown hairs on your arms.) I figured ok, it will be on my arms, the smell won't bother me. Nope. Wrong. It was awful. I am sensitive to artificial fragrances, but it was legit burning my eyes. I can't even imagine it being on or near my face.
If your skin is at all sensitive, or you don't want to smell like artificial orange flavored orange candy mixed with gross flowers and an industrial cleaning agent, do not buy this. Also the name is laughable - "Environmental Shield"'lol. This will not shield you from anything; it will literally cause skin damage. It's bluntly embarrassing to see from a brand like Murad.

I used this on a new age spot for 3 months and it didn't do anything at all
Kiki from Colorado
This bottle lasted me about three months with use nearly every day (1x a day). I didn't notice anything at first, wasn't looking, but by the time it ran out, my skin was noticeably more even-toned. It looks better than I knew possible.

I really wanted to love this based on the reviews. However, as others have mentioned, it smells strongly of rubbing alcohol, which is the second ingredient. I was hoping it was a more gentle alcohol, but no. Burned my skin in a couple spots.

I had some acne scars and within 2 weeks I notice a huge difference on the color of the scar. It made all my scars go away and dark spots. I really recommend and think its worth the investment if dark spots and acne scar is a huge concerned for you.

So first and foremost i got this product while ulta was having those sales going on and this product was on sale for HALF OFF!!! So you know i had to snag, because at the time of purchase o was fighting a real bad breakout which in result left me with ugly dark spots scattered all over my face. I began to using the product, now i would try to use this regularly on the bottle it instructs to use twice a day morning and night but me being me i would forget and go a few days without it; However i still saw instant results even though i doht use regularly. It works fast and does the job that inteded for. Also side note ive seen reviews talking about it burns no it doenst and i have sensitive combination skin with occasional dry spots it is sticky and leaves the face feeling tacky but that doesnt bother me :)
When i do eventually run out i will be purchasing again because this product is most definitely wirth the investment!!!

I purchased this serum about 2 months ago, though not from Ulta. I cannot attest to the effectiveness of the product because I couldn't continue use past 3 days. I ALWAYS check ingredients, but for some reason, I trusted the brand and skipped the ingredient check. Alcohol denat is the 2nd ingredient and it's obvious. It smells strongly like alcohol and dried my face out tremendously. I saw some peeling in my dark spots and thought "awesome, they're shedding right off". Nah, my whole face was peeling. I have dry skin to begin with, so i try to avoid drying alcohols. If you don't have dry skin, maybe you can stick with the application, unfortunately I could not.

Hi. 36 yo/f here struggling with melasma and dark spots. It all started when I jumped into resurfacing the skin on my face. I used a product that was (and is) WONDERFUL, but it warned me about sun exposure. Well, like an idiot, I didn't think much of it when I first started using it summer 2020 and after just 10 minutes of full sun exposure, BOOM - a massive discoloration patch on my forehead appeared. I mean, it was so bad not even the best concealer could completely cover it up. And I had always been SO PROUD when they did that UV light evaluation on your face to detect sun damage, and even after living on the beach for 3 years, mine was always perfect.
After an expensive dermatologist visit and a special cream that had to be picked up at a special compounding pharmacy, that insurance wouldn't cover, having a very short ~2-3 week shelf-life (before deactivating and becoming useless), and you could only use it for so long and only in certain spots, I was rather downtrodden. As if the stress of the pandemic did not age my skin fast enough, I had to stupidly help it out, and all my attempts to reverse it were useless.
So, in my quest to prevent any further damage I purchased one of Murad's sunscreens (my very first purchase from this brand), which came with 2 free gifts. One of them being this Correcting Serum. < < Let. Me. Tell. You. >> I was *BLOWN AWAY* at how amazing this serum made my skin look after the very first night of use. And that tiny sample? A little went a very long way and the 0.17 fl ounces lasted me for a month after daily nighttime use covering my entire face and neck.
Murad has been added to my forever list of companies that I LOVE and this stuff is absolutely worth every single penny.

I got this in a Murad trial kit. Before the trial size was even gone, I noticed a huge difference in the dark spots on my face. This product definitely works and I already bought the regular size to add to my routine. I knocked off one star because it does not smell great and it is sort of sticky. But the results make it worth it for me.

Although expensive this product is worth it! with regular daily use as instructed this product works.
Kathy from Lakewood NJ
A little expensive but its worth it. My skin is looking brighter and its only been about 4 days. In two weeks itll look amazing. Slight smell to it. Slightly sticky but for the job that it does, those 2 cons don't bother at all. I hope the bottle lasts, its so nice!
Stef from TN
Lets start at expensive. And while its okay to pay for something that is worth it, it isnt. Save your money and go else where.
Kind of burns, easy to spread but dries fast and sticky. I used rigorously in good hopes it would work.2 months in almost and nothing. Not worth it.
Ana from Denver
It works so good only in three days I can see the diference
KM from Georgia, US
I got this on sale and I have to tell you... I love it so much it might be worth full price. I've been using it twice a day for about a week and I can clearly see a difference in my skin. It also smells amazing, isn't sticky, and absorbs well.
Allyh214 from Austin,Tx
It's expensive and it absolutely does not fade anything. It's not worth your money. I'm so bummed it didn't work. I had high hopes but it just didn't do anything after nearly 2 months of using it religiously. A little does go a long way and the smell is pleasantries but it just didn't do what it said it does. Sticky as well.

I apply this in the morning and evening. I've been doing this faithfully for a month and my brown spots are lighter!
Try it you won't regret it.

I got this product as a sample and while I can give it a good review for doing what it's supposed to do, it did lighten my bright spots over time. I wasn't really a fan of the product though and wouldn't consider buying with the price that high. It left my skin feeling kind of sticky and tight and slightly red and my moisturizer doesn't seem to sink into my skin as well while using this. Definitely isn't a favorite serum of mine.
Sadz from Chicago
I wanted to like it but it sucked
I dont notice any changes on my face using this
Im a brown girl so i have a lot of hyperpigmentation
It did nothing!!! Please save your money
Cicka from Illinois
I have been using this for several years, and it helped. But about 3-4 years ago, Murad reformulated it to the point where it no longer lightens my age spots, plus it has become crazy expensive! I stuck with it, hoping longevity would be the charm. Nothing! Finishing up this latest bottle, and it's good bye. I am too old to pay hundreds of $$ for their registration me, plus my skin is getting more sensitive. I will go back to a cheaper, somewhat more effective Vitamin C product.

I love this product! It's my second time purchasing it and it really does help get rid of my dark spots from acne scars!

For such an expensive product, the packaging is cheap and the pump was broken

If you're looking for something to fade the dark spots on your face THIS STUFF WORKS!!! It's expensive, but it absolutely works even on sensitive skin. As an African American woman, I HAD some hypo/hyperpigmentation areas on my face and this did the trick. It magically blended them all and my face looked amazing within a week or 2. A natural all over glow that eliminated the need for foundation. Make sure you wear an SPF to prevent the skin discoloration from coming back.
Sandi from Raleigh, NC
I saw this advertised on Facebook and thought I'd try it. It is very gentle/mild but does slightly fade your dark areas. Good product
