The locking mechanism broke and I could not use the curling iron function anymore so I returned it. The curling iron left indentations instead of a smooth finish when I was able to use it. The flat iron did not have good compression and I felt I had to squeeze the flat iron onto my hair so it didn't fall out. I did have an issue when the locking mechanism for the curling iron broke within the first year. However, I called up the company and they replaced it within three days under the warranty. This means that it still works OK as a straightener, but if I want to use it as a curling iron, I have to wrap an elastic hair tie around the handle, so the barrel stays closed.
