I've noticed most of the negative reviews mention this. Please educate yourselves on the color wheel for more info! A lot of higher end tanning products have either a Violet or a Green base! Those colors CANCEL OUT UNWANTED ORANGE/YELLOW/RED COLORS! The result means a cool Brown shade AFTER showering, as in your final color...minus the green. If you're looking for a more golden shade or a bronze I wouldn't recommend this unless you layer with another brand. I don't personally like the bronze color on my skintone, but possible recommendations would be the Liquid Gold line from Bondi Sands for that bronze undertone. This is more of a cool medium brown and a second coat will get you to a dark range. If you're afraid of it being too dark at first application, try the original Brazilliance Plus lotion from Tarte which is awesome too. The lotion is a lighter end result and very natural. I also find that product has less of the reactionary "self tan" smell. This formula does, however, ANY self tan in the darker colors will because of the increased ingredient of DHA. DHA is what creates the color change of your skin by reacting with your dead skin cells, therefore the deeper color you want, the more DHA needed, the more you notice the scent. It does fade away once you shower at your preferred time interval. I wanted to try something a little darker for a change. It was a mistake. This tanner goes on dark but you can no leave the house with it on it looks and smells horrible. It does not go on smoothly. I put it on and it instantly makes me look like I've been sitting out in the sun for hours. The color is pretty good, and the formula dries fast and doesn't smell too bad. A lot of the color comes off in the shower afterward, but enough of it stays that it's worth it. I wish it came with its own application mitt. The good news is that it's a pretty large size and lasts a while. The color is a little bit splotchy/patchy at application.
