A few months ago I developed really dry flaky patches just above and between my eyebrows. I used a different microfoliant that contained charcoal and although it worked great, it was just too messy. I decided to look on the Ulta website to see if I could find something different and found this product. I have used it 3 times over the past week and I love it. It isn't too heavy and hasn't made my skin break out. But most importantly, it gets rid of the flaky skin so I am prepared to add my moisturizer and foundation. It makes my entire face feel fresh and smooth without feeling like it's been scrubbed. My skin felt pleasantly exfoliated after. But I ordered recently from Ulta online and was twice sent a jar that was named the same thing—but was clearly not the original formula. While I was refunded, the product has a completely different ingredient list and packaging, and doesn't really work. I find it to feel oily, the smell is warm/almost vanilla-y (previously had a more seaside scent), and the grit feels like it is doing nothing. I've been using up my jar but it honestly feels useless. More like I'm smearing a paste on my face that just adds oil and exfoliates nothing. I would not recommend buying from Ulta because it is NOT selling the advertised product—and even though they will refund you, it's not what you're looking for. Use on *damp* skin and rub in very gently. It's abrasive as heck so it does its job. Got rid of my dead skin and left my face glowing and soft. It did not strip my skin at all. It smells amazing too which is a plus! Only thing is that i wouldnt recommend using it more than once in a while as i said it is very abrasive. Ive read many complaints that it feels like glass on their skin but it also says to place it on damp skin. . Definitely, do not use if your skin is super sensitive. It also has a nice minty feeling after applying it. Its such a nice feeling after being in the garden all day. The texture is perfect and it smells like ive been at the beach all day ! I do have sensitive skin, but I used that infamous apricot scrub religiously as a teenager, so I would like to think I could handle rough exfoliators. Guess not? My fiance also used this product and said it was fine (hence 2 star rating instead of just 1) but he's not as picky as I am. But since this product has so many good reviews maybe I'm just the problem. The consistency is not too thick but not runny. The smell is great too! It's a light coconut-ish scent and not overwhelming in my opinion. It's super gentle and I have pretty sensitive skin but have never had an issue with using this product. It left my face red (almost like a sunburn or windburn), it radiated heat, and felt very sensitive the day after using it. I am not allergic to any of the ingredients. I was going to return it, but just decided to use it as an exfoliator for my body instead, and it works fine for that. I will not purchase it again, though.
