I started my journey of retinol use with this product, which I still use to this day. On nights I am not using a tretinoin, I alway reach for my tried, and true Sunday Riley's A+ high dose retinol. I have never received so many compliments about how fresh, bright and seamless my skin looked than when I was using this product on the daily basis. You will see results in your skin after 6 weeks of use. My skin did go throw a purging phase and it did cause some dryness. However if you alternate between the A+ retinol and the Good Genes the purging will not be as drastic. However everyone's skin is different. Overall, highly recommend 10/10. It's worth the price.Most Helpful Critical ReviewBeware of a bad reaction after 1 week of useWhenever I try a new skin care product, I use it solo for one week to eliminate the variables in my personal 'clinical trial'. While the product smells fairly bad, I attributed it to no extra perfumes, so I got past that. I used it for 5 days as directed. It made my skin feel 'polished' and some dry spots/barnacles started exfoliating, so I was happy that the retinol was working. However, the night of the 5th day I woke up from sleep with my forehead burning and itching. I thought a mosquito went to town on me (I live in Hawaii). The next morning, I woke up with strange red lumps and zig-zag patterns on my forehead. My husband said it looked like Voldemort got to me, ala Harry Potter. The condition worsened over the next 2 days and itching and spots appeared on the cheeks and lower portion of my face. I am treating it with Benadryl, which helps the itch/redness for a while, but I need to slather it all over my face every 2-3 hours. I am also apply cold compresses which helps with the swelling. I believe cosmetics, or cosmeceuticals which I believe anything with retinol should be labeled, need to carry side effect warnings just like prescription pharmaceuticals.
