I bought this tanner for my daughter to use. We are both fair blondes and with a history of skin cancer in our family, we prefer to add color to our body with tanners from a bottle. My daughter used a different brand that she really liked but it was very expensive - over $30 a bottle. The ulta brand tanner was half the cost and we got it at a real bargain with being able to purchase a 2nd bottle for half off. I will also add that my daughter used a lighter shade in the past and did not get the darkness she wanted so she went with this darker shade. My daughter made sure to exfoliate well before applying the product which is important. I did help with applying it to her back and other areas on back and by making sure that it was evenly applied (I dont think it would have turned out as good without a second person to help, just my 2 cents). A mitt is a MUST to ensure an even application. After leaving it on for the allotted time you could really see it work and the color is great! I have had my share of orange glow from tanners, lol, but this product is brown. It has been 5 days since she applied it and did not touch up (and showered as usual without being too careful) so there are def patchy spots now but after a good exfoliation and reapplication I think that it will blend in well. I also want to say that the mousse is much easier to work with than oil and lotion forms that I have had experience with in the past. For the cost and results of this ulta tanner, I am very pleased and recommend.
I tried this out when my usual faves (Bondi Sands from another store and Dark Loving Tan) were both sold out on the same day. It was cheap and I love a lot of Ulta's makeup, so figured it would work out.
+1 For the scent! To me, it smells like rich chocolate. The "self-tanner" smell really isn't strong at all.
+1 for the UNDERTONE!! It's a beautiful golden color that I personally love. Most of the time I favor a darker, more violet undertoned tan. But this color finish I really did like!
-1 for how light the tan is. The first time I used it I left it on for the full 3 hours and it definitely showed up, but it wasn't very dark. I'm naturally extremely pale, so I like to go for a much darker tan to really bring my skin alive. This added color to my skin for sure, but not enough for my taste. HOWEVER it is a very natural tan and if you are new to tanning or like a less dramatic tan, this would be a plus for you!
-1 short-lasting. Personally, I had to really look closely to see if the tan was still there after about day 4. Usually, my tan lasts about 7 days. Not a huge deal, but I have a really busy schedule and would like to touch up my tan less frequently.
-1 Kind of streaky. I've been using fake tan for a while now so I don't think it's my application method that's making it so streaky. I always use a moisturizer prior to use and it still really sticks to my dry patches and the formula kind of clumps a bit? It just goes on stronger in some places no matter what I do.
Bonus round: It doesn't like to be layered. The second time I used it I tried to layer on the color (not recommended for most tans) just to see if I could get some more depth out of the color. I definitely did get more color, but of course, it was even streakier and while the color deepened, I still didn't quite achieve my ideal color.
I do recommend this brand to someone who is newer to self-tanner OR someone who needs a quick bit of color for something happening the next day.

I have always went tanning in the winter to keep my tan year round. After realizing how bad a tanning bed can be for your health, I started researching self tanning products. I am a budget shopper and Ulta lover. This tan is perfect! So natural.

I have tanned for over 7+ years and I keep coming back to this self tanner. I've tried them all but this one gives me the best and darkest results every time! The only complaint I have is the scent is a little more overwhelming than others I have tried. Regardless, I will still use this one before any other.

I've bought this for years & loved it but recently every time I buy it - it's different!! SO inconsistent. Last time it was red based (is usually green based) which is an HIGE differenc e. and this time the foam was so concentrated & impossible to spread - I look like a monster. No thanks! Figure it out Ulta.

I thought maybe this was the same bottle as the previous lavender bottle. A sales associate told it was. And to give it a shot. Nah. My skin looked parched like the dessert and really dry after this. I thought it wss fine but maybe my skin was extra dry after application but i truly think it was the mouse. I need to scrub it off and somehow find the original. Not amount of hydration helped.

I usually use the st tropez luxe whipped mousse which I love, but this is really good for when i dont feel like dropping almost $50 on a tanner. Plus it develops faster. It isnt sticky so I can go about my day for a few hours before washing it off. The color is really nice & buildable. Slight tan smell but it really isnt bad. Going to buy again

I normally buy Bondi Sands but I was in a pinch and the closest Ulta to me didn't carry Bondi in stores. I gave 3/5 bc the smell is strong and it is kind of sticky. But the color is very nice, it came out very neutral. Not orange at all!

Quickly started to crack and get patchy after about 3 days. Maybe the moisturizer ive been using played a part in why it didnt last but its nice for a few days.

I bought this as a dupe for my regular brand express tanner and was disappointed. Not only is it not foamy at all, it's runny and dark green. It looks like diarrhea and spilled all over my floors. Tan doesn't come out "ultra dark" as described either. I'll go back to my old tanner

Color guide is pretty and once you wash it off it's disappointing… until the 8th hour. Holy wow! Not at all orange on my olive skin, lasts long and fades nicely. I think I may like this more than St. Tropez!

This was my absolutely go tanner in the summer. Great price point! The color is perfect and its long lasting. However recently when i re purchased and the constancy is so watery now not how it originally came out like a mousse and ive also noticed that it makes my skin itch and it never did this before. I was almost convinced I got an expired product initially.
Please bring back the original formula.

I've been using self tanners for 15 years..typically Solrae and Loving Tan are my main go ones I've bene loyal to for 7 years but I am SHOCKED and SO pleased at this price and color. I have bumpy strawberry skin and am very into good skincare so my sun exposure is about 5% so when I say I'm impressed it's a big deal to actually want to look at my legs in the mirror after applying 2x in 3 days! Thank you!

I was so surprised how good this tan is!! Looks like i laid out by the pool all day. 10/10 would recommend

Im super sad because they either discontinued their good tanner or they tried to make this one better and completely failed. It is SO messy. It comes out like water and not a foam so it gets ALL over and stains everything. The color used to be more NEUTRAL and now its clmpletely green even when washed off. Looks like you have a disease or something. BRING BACK THE OLD FORMULA IT WAS SO MUCH BETTER

This formula keeps changing. I have talked to their support about it and apparently its noted that it can change. Its just annoying if youre gonna get a good color or not. It use to be my favorite and then it felt like it stopped working. Then it was green. And now it seems like it may be back to the original. Its just frustrating because i would just love consistency in my tanner.
Id buy only instore and check to see if its the green formula. Id stear clear of that one.

Better than anything else I've tried, and I've tried them all. From the most expensive, to the least. This formula goes on so smoothly. Never streaky, or orange. It has a very pleasant, beachy smell. A little goes a long way too. I had my last bottle for 6 months. I believe they have changed the packaging a little bit, the old packaging had peaches on it. I have been using this for years. It is much less expensive than the others I've tried so I hope they don't stop making it.

I am surprised at the performance of this product! Im a pretty tenured tanner having tried st tropez, b.tan, minetan, vita liberata, bondi sands, jergens, and more; this tanner did not dissapoint. My skin tone is definitely medium to medium deep for reference I am the following shades:
MAC NC42 / NARS Valencia/ Fenty 280/ Armani 6.25/ Lancome 420N
This tanner definitely gave me the right imoression by the depth of the color guide; and this was seen through upon rinse off to a nice baked bronze tan after only 90 minutes of wear. Lookjng forward to seeing results with a longer wear time.
Does have the self tanner smell, and isnt the fastes dryjng but if youre familiar with tanners at different range of pricing; you cant be surprised or all bent out of shale about it — get what youre paying for.
I see comments stating no tan being left behind not to back the "ultra dark" title, i also notice these commentsbeing predominantly fair complexted reviewers—- this goldenly gorgeous boy approved this as effective for melanin rich beauties.

Ive used this self tanner several times. It is really great for begginers or for someone who wants a lighter tan. I will say it doesnt stay true to its name in regards to, "ultra dark". It also says to leave on for max three hours, but if you do that the color pretty much wears off. I recommend exfoliating + shaving the night before, then after your next shower apply it and go to sleep. You can either wash it off in the morning or in the afternoon. Either way it wont interfere with the color. Its really easy to see where you have or havent blended it in. It is important to note that I do not use a mitt, but rather a normal rubber glove and it works way better. If youd like a darker tan you can reapply 2-3 days after or look for a different product. I do like this product and I will continue to use it because I know i can leave it on and not worry about it. 8/10

Is the product supposed to be dark green? Mine came without a lid and the product that comes out is dark green, almost black and smells bad. No way I'm putting this on my skin. It's going back.
Emily from Pontiac, MI
Since I read great reviews, I invested in this product. I've never been disgusted by a beauty product.
It's green and it's barely a mousse. It's liquidy and doesn't rub out smooth at all. It smells awful, not even like a normal self tanner.
Don't buy it.
Sam from Ohio
Really good if you're looking to be tan for one night but tan does not stay at all after showering.
Lisa from NC
I Normally use a more expensive kind but was super excited at the results.

I used to love this tanner! It was a beautiful bronze when it went on. Now it's green like seaweed and leaves your skin green! I hate it! Don't recommend.

This USED to be amazing. The formula has changed. It goes on green and leaves a green tint after washing.
