I had first gotten introduced to this line from a sample from maybe four or five years ago, tried it, loved it, and promptly forgotten it. But, having moved from CA to WI my showering habits quickly needed a re-vamp. The water here is hard, and my hair tangles like crazy. I couldn't afford to use to expensive salon brands because I am in grad school so money is tight. That being said, I was going through drugstore brands like water; the 5.89 'extreme treatment' conditioners and shampoo cleansers lasted a week in my hands.
So Amino Acid Shampoo comes into my life. Yes, it is a cleanser (judging by the contents and label) so it works if you live in an area with hard water and your hair just feels like gunk. Yes, I do have to wash my hair everyday, but I have oily hair, and always will. Nothing is going to change that. (I am multi-racial, with thin, very long, wavy hair, but I have A LOT OF HAIR that tangles like mad). So it cleans well in extreme hard water, leaves my hair detangled, rinses easily (a blessing for those with long hair) smells great, is a bit pricey for someone who usually buys store brands, but works just as well as the more expensive top of the line salon brands.
The bottom line is, if you are looking for a shampoo that works on a) tangles b) rinses easily c) oily hair d) thick or fine hair e) hard water build-up this stuff is for you.
Sidenote: Both my husband and I use it, and he doesn't find the scent to be too 'girly'. He has thick, curly hair, and a flakey scalp and finds the shampoo to work just as well for him.
That being said this shampoo isn't for everyone, we all have different hair-types, but if you have similar problems, this stuff is a lifesaver, even if you have to pay a bit more.
This review is of the 2.5 oz size since while I enjoy this product as an every day shampoo, the travel size product fails horribly. At first I thought it may be an anomaly that my Kiehls bottles frequently leaked on domestic business travel, but after recently returning from 8 weeks of international travel which included 10 separate days of flying, I can say with certainty the travel size Kiehls bottles are no good for checked baggage airline travel.
With a shower kit housing more than a dozen shampoos, face washes, creams, etc. the only bottles that leaked any during my travels were my Kiehls Creme deCorpa lotion and my Kiehls travel size shampoo. I even tried pushing air out of the bottle before the trip to give it room to expand to no avail. The only thing that prevents getting the rest of your suitcase full of lotion and shampoo is to put the Kiehls bottles in plastic baggies. While that works if the baggie is big enough and sealed, you waste the product that escapes and have to spend time cleaning out the baggie to use it for the next flight.
Not sure why Kiehls products leak when other high-end brands don't.
Bottom line: the shampoo is great but don't waste your money on Kiehls expensive travel sized bottle; buy a cheap travel bottle and use that instead.

This leaves me hair still oily. I wanted to love it but even with two rinses it leaves it greesy. I have a lot of fine blonde hair, it gets very oily within about 24-36 hours. This shampoo isn't cleansing enough to encapsulate the oil to allow me to rinse it away in the shower. this just spreads the oil and then my hair feels gross.

The shampoo makes my hair dry after several uses. Definitely need to use the conditioner after.

I've been using this shampoo & conditioner combo for about a month. The lather and feel of the shampoo is nice, and the smell is mild and pleasant. My hair feels soft, and it's gentle enough to use every day.
Why isn't it perfect? I've been noticing body breakouts when I previously had none, and this is the one part of my shower routine that's changed. I think it's the coconut oil! It really clogs the crap out of most people's pores and I wish they would offer a formula without it. :-(
Conclusion: I think I'll finish my bottles, but won't be repurchasing this one

A neutral-scented medium-lather daily-use shampoo. It has been my go-to for years.

I really like this shampoo. There is literally zero lather which threw me off at first; I used to feel like if there wasn't lather my hair wasn't getting clean. However, after struggling through my first lather-free wash, my hair dried perfectly - much to my surprise. It was so clean and soft I was shocked. So I'm now embracing the the lather-free lifestyle. Product also has a verrrrrry light scent which is a nice change to some products. Would recommend

I bought this after trying a sample and I really liked it. I can use with or with out the conditioner (which I also have) and my hair feels soft and silky. This shampoo also gives my hair a beautiful shine… I will definitely continue to buy in the future after I finish my jumbo size. It also has a great scent..

Long, short, curly, straight, white, grey, brown: all the hair in this household is happy with this shampoo. I love that it comes in large bottles with a pump, I love the scent, and I love that we all enjoy using it, and have for at least a decade.

An OK shampoo, but not great. It also has very little scent. I miss the Sunflower shampoo and conditioner. That line had the best scent and the cleaning power was great but still gentle. Please bring that back.

I have used this shampoo in the past and really love it! But I noticed that my scalp is a bit more oily so it you have oily hair maybe that's not your shampoo.

I'm 55+ and have been using this product and the conditioner for 3 years. My hair growth is phenomenal. I'm highly allergic to most shampoos. This is tops!

hair and scalp types vary, but for my money this is the best shampoo hands down. It cleans and it seems to enrich my hair. I leave it on for a few minutes in the shower and I can feel my hair soak it in.
