Most Helpful Positive Review A Love Story from an Acne Prone Gym Goer
PHOTO: The attached photo is after approximately 12 hours of wear on a naturally oily face, and an extremely sweaty workout.
I have fallen in love with this product as well as the eye primer. I went to Ulta in search for a new foundation because I thought that my Tarte, powder foundation couldn't handle sweat (I walk a mile to and from my office in Florida) because it would embed in creases and looked horrible. Boy was I wrong!
I asked an employee to recommend a new foundation that would work better for sweat, oily, and acne prone skin. She told me that my current foundation is what she would recommend, but that I should you a primer. I must confess, I thought she was a bit crazy, but now I am a BELIEVER in the wonder that is Photo Finish Primer.
How I use it and what I use it with:
I cleansed and moisturized my face, applied the primer with my fingertips, applied my foundation (Tarte Airbrush full coverage), blush, and Tarte Smooth Operator (this likely contributed to my good experience).
I went about my day, including the gym where I SWEAT WATERFALLS down my face. When I got to my car and looked in the mirror, I was in shock to see that my makeup was still fairly FLAWLESS! After all of the sweat my face had less of a matte finish and more of a dewy finish, but my personal results have been amazing. If anything changes I will update this review.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not for Oily Skin
This is the worst primer I have ever used.
I have an oily tzone, makeup slides off my nose very easily. I use Estee Lauder's Doublewear makeup and needed something to prime with.
Previously, I had been using Benefit's Porefessional, which is decent for dabbing on problem pore areas.
I bought sample of the smashbox primer, because everyone raved about it on Youtube.
I found it applied fine and made makeup apply smoothly. BUT It actually descreased the wear time I got from my Doublewear. My nose was an oil slick by 3 hours in the work day.
It also caused me to break out around my chin. I never break out and I'm not too sensitive to products, but this did cause small bumps to pop up.
I have found a primer that works, however. Loreal's Infalliable Setting spray is a dream. Spritz before makeup, apply face, spritz again. Done! It leaves your skin looking doll like, a plus for my heavy coverage makeup. It also set my nose makeup perfectly. No sliding.

I've bought & used this primer many times before and loved the softness of the product but this time I opened up the tube and it was like a oily/watery yuk..

This is a great product under my makeup
Smooth and Blur??!!
Bluejay22 from TX
This product does not smooth or blur anything or cover flaws. If anything, it made my pores stand out MORE. Works okay for a primer I suppose.
The best primer
Alyssa from Memphis, TN
Super lightweight. I love it!
Where has this been all my life!

I'm not a wearer of heavy makeup. I normally use just light powder, mascara, eyeliner and gloss. I decided to give primer a try. This Smashbox primer goes on so light and silky, you don't even notice it as an extra layer of product. This little addition made my minimalist face powder look 10X better. I'm a now a firm believer in primer! THIS primer.
I loved it !!!

I've used this for a while, and haven't found anything to match its superiority. It's gone up in price over the years and is expensive , so I try and get when there is a sale.
Amart from Burlington, NC
Tried many kinds of primer. This is by far THE BEST
Something's changed (or bad batch)
B Williams from Phoenix, AZ
I've used this for years. It's sort of a gel consistency (a bit thick). I opened this time and straight up oil squirted out. I love this stuff so hoping it's a fluke thing.
Love how it blurs imperfections!
Mandms4evr from Texas
I haven't used this primer in a few years but wanted to try it again when it was included in the 21 Days of Beauty Steals. It blurs imperfections and I can see a difference in my skin as soon as I smooth it on, even before I add my foundation. A little goes a long way and I discovered it wears better when I don't use too much.
Jenny from Riverside, CA
It works great, I really like how the foundation looks after applying the primer.
Connie from Riverside, Ca
This is very similar to Bare minerals primer. Matte yet very smooth finish.
I would buy this again

A definite must have, velvet touch and my face looks flawless!
Really great buy!

I like to apply this with my beauty blender and really get in into my skin.
EmmaC from Houston
I love this primer because it's texture! It feels like you are wearing no primer and it sinks into the skin so nicely! It helps lay the makeup on beautifully and it lasts on all day. It helps minimize pores, but it doesn't blur them. It doesn't make your skin look oily too! I love this!
Nice and light weight but does the job.

I use it everyday in my make up routine.

Makes makeup application easy. Wish it wasn't so expensive.
Does a fair job
msroberta from Georgia
Goes on smoothly, no fragrance, doesn't keep foundation from settling in facial lines
I DO like this primer
Susie from VA
I do like this primer. So far one of the best I have tried, if not the best so far. It does help my foundation go on easier and the overall look is better than without the primer.
Suggest 1) you don't go too heavy with the primer, a little goes a long way. 2) when you think the tube in empty, cut off the bottom right below the sealed seam, use a spatula to scoop out what is left into another container, I can get close to another week's use of product out of what seems to be an empty container.
I would have given it 5 stars if it was not so expensive.
