I owned my Chi for over ten years. Being nearly 20 years old now, and having it given to me when I was 8, I can say that I put this iron through the ringer. I have frizzy, curly hair that would wear out hair ties and snap them after one use. Over the years it has thinned a bit and swimming has fried the intense curl out a little, but I'm still snapping hair ties and it did the job all the same. In the hands of my aunt, the professional hairdresser who chose it for me, it took roughly fifteen to twenty minutes to cover my entire head of hair, that was at the time about three feet long. In my hands it took a while longer, but once I got the hang of of it, I never took longer than 20 minutes either. Over the many years, I've had my hair above my shoulders, at my shoulders, to mid back, lower back, but mostly it has been past my butt. Alwasy being tall and having hair I could sit on for most of my life, I can safely say that this iron took on a LOT of hair over the years. I can also say that this iron works well with all different lengths of hair. I'm embarrassed to say that it even lasted through accidentally being left on ALL day long about three times within the last year of its life. This iron worked well for me up until it died when I believe the swivel cord eventually wore out, seeing as the power would turn on and off as I moved it. The plates never scratched, the hinge never lost stability, and the heat never waned. (If it did it was so little I, who knew it very well, did not notice.) It held up being lugged around in suitcases, backpacks, and tote bags the same as it did when it lived (and fell off of) my bathroom counter.
I bought a CHI ceramic hairstyling iron Original in the black box on September 26, 2006 from my hair salon. I had it till it just broke and would not turn on anymore, which was un-till August 11, 2013. I loved it because it would keep my hair and my daughters hair nice, silky and smooth looking. I have course hair that always looks frizzy if I don't use my CHI. I contemplated on buying a new one because they are so expensive and I have 4 children who need other things. My daughter told me she just absolutely had to have another one. Even though I loved the product, I was just apprehensive about spending the money. Needless to say I went to buy another one from the local Beauty Supply. It is supposedly the exact same one. I looked at the boxes to make sure. Although, they are not the same quality! The new one I bought on August 21,2013. It makes my hair frizzier, not silky smooth, and takes a long time to heat up, not to mention I have to run the iron through my hair a lot more times before it even remotely gets a little straighter. Also the outside of the Chi Flat Iron gets very hot to the touch. I asked my daughter about this and she said the same thing. She exclaimed we needed to take it back and get another brand. I am very disappointed in the quality of your chi. Is this something new you all have made. The quality of the old one compared to the new one is just not the same! The only reason why I bought a new one was because of my original experience. I used to recommend to friends that they needed to get one because it was awesome! But now I would never think on recommending your product. I am writing this letter just to inform you of this information. Over the years sometimes manufacturers make things cheaper and this to me is an example of it.

I've had this straightener for 14-15 YEARS and it still works so, so amazing. I've dropped it more times than I can count and it stills heats up like a champ and does exactly what it needs without pulling my hairs out. Get it!!!

I do like to blow dry my hair straight before I straighten it to take away volume but even when I don't I blow dry it this straighter keeps my hair straight for a couple of days.

I use it to flat iron my short bob haircut. Works great and doesn't torch my hair like the Babyliss titanium flat iron.
Denise from San Diego
The only complaint I have is that it's easy to touch hot spots on the tool. Otherwise, it makes such a nice curl.
Cathy from Massachusetts
This flat iron was not good at all , so bad quality, did not heat up at all

Pretty decent straightener I preferred the Hot Tools straightener over this one and they are about the same price. I hardly used mine and it lasted for 4 years and now it will not turn on at all. Save your money.

Replaced my previous iron (exact same one) that I'd had for 15 years

I have never despised a product as much as this one. The iron works fine on my hair, but it always pinches my hand and the cord is so insanely long it drives me up the proverbial wall. I cannot afford a new quality iron at this time so I am suffering through it, otherwise it would've gone in the trash after the first week.

I've been using this flat iron for a couple of weeks now. Works very well. My older iron used to have a temperature control which I liked this does not just an on and off switch

This straightener heats up quickly and leaves your hair smooth and sleek looking!
Never use chi again from Fort Lauderdale
I was a loyal Chi flat iron user, for me there was none other.. until.. I went to flat iron my hair and realized my hair was piping hot and smoking! I looked down to see what the temperature was and realized it was at the absolute max! I attempted to turn it down and it began rising again on its own. I tried unplugging and plugging back in but again the temperature was rising on its own. I called the corporate office in Houston as I heard there has been many complaints of this issue. Their resolution was for me to ship back (I would be responsible for postage) they also wanted me to include a check for $15 for return postage!! What a joke! They also wanted me to include the receipt which it was a gift.. its clearly their defective product which has known issues. Buyer beware.. if you want to keep your hair!

Works great to straighten hair. I even use it to curl!!

I got mine when I was in 5th grade back in 2005. I have had the same straightener since then. It is just now starting to fall apart. My plug in has lost its covering but it could be because of my rough care taking of the product. Even with the plug in cover gone it still works. I will be buying a new one soon!!

I am so glad I finally bought this! I Have have been using hair straighteners for over 20 years now and have heard great things about the Chi brand. I decided finally to buy this one and give it a try. The hype was correct, it works amazing. Got my curly, course hair pin straight. Usually it starts getting frizzy again towards the end of the day but not when using this. My hair actually looks and feels healthier after using this straightener!!

Don't make them like they use to . Had mine for 10 yrs. Bought another one and nothing like the old one. Tried to return it and they wouldn't since I did not have a receipt and couldn't find it in the computer

I looove CHI hair straighteners. I've used two in the past 12 years. They're FANTASTIC!

This straightener takes running through your hair many times before it gets straight. My hair is thin and wavy. If you have thicker hair and curly hair I do not recommend this straighter. Does not get hot enough to straighten. You will be spending lots of
Time running this straightener through your hair. I do not recommend.
