Most Helpful Positive Review Awesome!
I like this cleanser a lot! I have been struggling with terrible hormonal cystic acne since I was in the sixth grade. This past monday, I had twelve cysts on one side of my chin. Today is saturday, and they are 99% cleared, with no new breakouts forming. I have had this cluster of smaller cysts on the other side of my chin for four weeks with no sign of improvement. On monday they looked like a huge blister, and today they look like tiny scabs that are almost completely gone. This only dries out my pimples, not the rest of my skin, which is wonderful. I highly recommend trying this if you are at your wits end with acne. It cleared my skin without harsh chemicals or drying it out, it could clear yours too!
Most Helpful Critical Review I really wanted to love this stuff
I really, really wanted to love this product. I was thrilled by all of the reviews from other users. I was using a different product right before using this and it worked to combat my breakouts due to excessively oily skin. (I don't have hormonal acne, or sever acne, just slight breakouts due to my crazy oily face) However this product was a little to harsh and drying for me so I switched to this. Within two week I had such a bad breakout I couldn't bear another day with this. I know that you should give something a full month to test and that sometimes things get worse before they get better but I just couldn't do it. I did not see anything else improving either to help give me motivation that it would improve. SO I went back to the other product and stepped up my moisturizing and within two day my face is majorly improving. I am disappointed because I really wanted to love this. Based on other great reviews I would probably still recommend this. It just wasn't for me.

Great basic cleanser

I have been on my skin care journey for quite awhile. My biggest mistake was that for years I used Biore don't be dirty scrub (still love the scrub and it handled my acne for years) as my daily 2x cleanser. Exfoliating and scrubbing 2x a day really made my oily skin WAY MORE OILY. I decided to try a foaming cleanser and a friend recommended this. The first 2 weeks my skin was dry (my skin was adjusting) as I kept using it my skin evened out and now my skin looks and feels great! I don't feel oily and I don't feel dry. And my pores still feel like it got a deep cleaning. I recommend this cleanser ALL THE TIME. It's so great and gentle, good for any skin including sensitive skin. It has kept my acne under control, and has made the biggest difference in my skin texture and overall look. Love love love.

Everyone's skin is different, so I won't judge the negative reviews, but this is my holy grail cleanser! I have sensitive oily skin that I would say produces a medium amount of oil (I used to have SUPER oily skin tho). This makes my face feel very clean, but not overly dry unless I'm lazy and forget to use my gel cream moisturizer. The main thing with more intense cleansers when you have oily skin is to moisturize after to balance things out so that your skin doesn't over compensate for the lack of natural oils. I love that it doesn't have fragrance since I'm sensitive, fragranced cleansers make my face red and sting. One of the best parts about this cleanser is the price and how long it lasts. The 12oz bottle lasts me about 6 months and I cleanse day+night. I recently bought a value size 16oz that came with a 3oz mini and I'm probably going to be set for the whole year now! Such a steal for such good quality. Also, no other cleanser has been able to treat+prevent my acne like this one.

My skin usually does well with cerave products but this cleanser caused my skin to break out with cystic acne. I am not sure why but my skin did not like it at all!
Awful! Broke Out Horribly

I was looking for a cheaper alternative to Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing facial wash and decided to give CeraVe a try after numerous recommendations from everyone including my dermatologist. Hands down the worst mistake I've ever made. I honestly do not understand the hype surrounding this stuff. When I say I broke out horribly I am not lying. We're talking cystic acne and I'm 44 and have NEVER in my entire life (including my teen years) broke out like that. This was not only on my face but on the front and back of my neck. It also left my skin feeling rough and greasy. I continued to use it as my sister swore my skin just needed to adjust to it. 4 months of use and it just kept getting worse. The amount of blackheads on my face was astronomical. I will never recommend CeraVe to ANYONE.
Do not buy if you have acne prone skin.

I have been using Cetaphil for about 5-6 years now and it just wasn't cutting it for me anymore, so I decided to make a switch to this cleanser. That was a mistake. My acne has never been awful, but I do get many spots of acne all over my face and sometimes it better and sometimes it's worst. I've been using the cleanser for 4 days and my acne is the worst it's ever been. It's not only making my acne worse it is destroying my skin. On day 3 I noticed every time I used this cleanser my face would be beat red and so dehydrated, even though I'm using a good moisturizer morning and night. All in all if you have acne prone skin I would never recommend this product.
Nice facial cleanser

This product didn't seem to really do much on its own to help my acne. Although I think it works well to remove any oil or makeup from the skin. It does not dry my face out and does not have a fragrance to it.

This worked in the beginning and I was quite happy to finally have clear skin. Fast forward to a year later and it burns my face (& permanent red marks?!) I was using this and their AM moisturizer and sadly will have to find something else.

I have oily acne prone skin . I thought this was a good fit but it broke me out in a weird way . I got these little zits all over my eyebrows and under eye / upper cheek area and then they would get super big and red and painful . This has never happened to me before . Heck I thought it was a new primer doing it to me at first so I returned it but the breakouts continued:( it a big no for me
So much pain

I apparently am HIGHLY allergic to this product. Which is a shame because I have only heard good things about this product.
The perfect gentle cleanser!

I think highly of CeraVe and it's mostly all I use. This cleanser did not disappoint! It's gentle yet effective. It removes any leftover makeup and leaves my skin feeling clean without drying it out.
Not bad fir the price.

i have oily skin so i decide t try out this product. the first time i used it my face felt very nice and clean. its been about three weeks now that I've been using this product twice a day (morning and night) and it has dried out my skin soooo bad and clogged my pores. i had to stop using it, i don't have sensitive skin. i wouldn't recommend this product it dries out your face overtime.

I bought this cleanser after seeing everyone talking about it. I have oily skin and this stuff is amazing it helped clear up my skin and didn't cause my skin to dry out or anything.
Great for removing makeup, great for acne prone skin

I'd used Neutrogena oil free acne wash for years until my dermatologist told me not to use salicylic acid wash on eyes bc it thins your eyelashes (!! Apparently SA's "keratinolytic" thing does this). I've been looking for a good makeup-removing wash for acne prone skin without SA and THIS IS IT. I wear matte foundation, setting powder, AND setting spray for my oily skin and this wash removes it thoroughly and easily without over drying. It takes off eye makeup and mascara easily also—better than Neutrogena. I use other products for acne on my skin, and I haven't experienced breakouts since I started using this. Extremely happy with this product.
Not good for oily/combo skin
Jules from Dublin OH
I have been using this product for several months to really give it a chance to see how my skin reacts to it. I have combo/oily skin, so I have always tried using products that are catered to that skin type. Turns out I'm more oily because of these products. This cleanser really dries my skin out and strips it of the oils it needs, which makes it produce more oil overall. As soon as I wash my face with this and dry it, I start to see little flakes of skin on my face, particularly on my cheeks and forehead. It also has not really done anything to combat breakouts, if anything I've actually noticed I'm breaking out more. Will definitely switch to another cleanser.
So many new breakouts and red patches
Kristen from Los Angeles, CA
I decided to try this because my skin was oily and sensitive so it sounded perfect. For the first week nothing happened but slowly I started developing red itchy dry patches all over my face, mostly near my eyes and along my forehead. I also developed tiny bumps and a few really big breakouts. My skin is no longer oily it is SO. DRY. When I put my moisturizer on now I have to do it twice because my face literally sucks up the moisture and it feels like I didn't even put any on. So sad :(
i don't recommend.

I heard a lot hype around this product from Hyram and tiktok. I thought I would try it out myself since I have oily and sensitive skin. At first I didn't notice anything and it didn't do anything for my skin. Recently I started developing really dry, bumpy skin that itches and is really red. The areas where it was getting dry were around my nose and under my eyes. I have noticed that I have been breaking out more which sometimes happens to me but I was getting more and more breakouts each day. I would breakout on my cheeks, forehead, and specially my temples on the side of my head. The pimples would start out a bumps and would soon develop into large/medium size pimples under the skin. The pimples are painful and aren't going away even though i'm using a pimple cream that has salicylic acid in it.

this product is great for oily skin, careful because it can be too stripping at times. overall i would recommend

Don't believe the hype on tiktok or any other social media platform. My forehead & chin acne has been horrible since January, so i decided to try this since everyone on tiktok had been praising it so much. Well it hasn't lived up to it's expectations, it hasn't done anything at all, only made it worse. I've been using it for 2 months now and i haven't had one sign of clarity on my skin. I'm not saying they make bad products but please make sure this is right for your skin!!!!! I have sensitive & oily skin and it didn't work for me, so please please please do research and make sure this is correct for you!!!!
can be stripping at times

I can not tell you the hundreds of dollars I have spent wasted on skincare. My acne was so bad, I couldn't sleep without my face hurting. I always dodged Cerave because of how cheap it is. But I finally gave in and my skin looks SO good! Never had it look this great in years!

I like the simplicity of this face wash. It's very gentle and leaves my face feeling clean.
My skin loves this!

I have combination skin, and this definitely helped control the oiliness without drying out my skin. It leaves a very soft and clean sensation.
