Most Helpful Positive Review AMAZING!
THIS IS AMAZING!
I wouldn't say it's like a tinted moisturizer.
It is thick and has the consistency and feel of a thick silicone primer. It has the slightest tint. (would love it if it had more tint in a paler color) It looks medium beige but I'm super pale and it blended into my skin like a dream. I used it as a primer over my moisturizer and it works amazing! It's better than my expensive primers and even makes my foundation go on smoother. This is the best sunscreen I've ever used. It has no smell and doesn't sting, itch, or breakout my sensitive skin. I used it all the way down my neck and decolette area. Used alone, it slightly evens skintone and gives a silk matte finish. I'd use this alone on days I'm in a hurry with some powder and mascara. I can't say enough how truly amazing it is. I wish the brand had more products like this.
BUY IT! You will not regret it.
Most Helpful Critical Review I'm not a fan of the matte finish....
This is waaaay too matte for me. I don't have oily skin, so this just made my face look flat, like when you wear nylons. I like a healthy glow to the skin, so this wasn't for me. If you have oily skin though, and lots of grease, you should try this. As for recommending it to others, sure -- if you're oily. But not for those with dry skin.

I wear this everyday in the summer. It's a little thick going on but blends easily and gives good coverage. Doesn't feel heavy or looks cakey. It looks natural. I recommend. This is the 2nd tube I've bought.

I need to be better about wearing SPF and not just relying on what's in my foundation. This combines SPF with primer and I really love how my skin looks. I am early 50s and I don't see this settling into fine lines. Would recommend
Not for super pale folks
Brooke from Salt Lake City
If you're a pale redhead like me this isn't the best option. The formula feels nice but it made me orange! I have very pale skin with pinkish undertones. Please make the non tinted one available on here!

not the best

i love cotz's spf 50 i chose to try this out because its water resistant. the texture was very smooth but it kept collecting onto my dry patches every 2 hours that i reapplied. if you have oily skin i think this will work great as a primer but not as an spf.
I wear this every day!

I've been using this for a few years as my daily sunscreen over my moisturizer. It has a lovely matte finish and helps even out color a bit. It's a mineral based sunscreen, so no nasty chemicals and it's ocean-safe.
absolute favorite facial sunscreen ever

This stuff is just the best. The texture is so unique—genuinely like a primer, not like what you think of as a "sunscreen" at all. Makes my skin look so smooth and nice, does not cause any irritation or breakouts, really just feels like I'm wearing a nice tinted primer that happens to have SPF 40. I love it. Have repurchased a few times. Typically when I wear it, I just wear it as foundation, as I prefer light to medium coverage anyway. It mixes fine with some concealers and I believe it's intended so you could put actual foundation on top as well. I am pretty fair and it looks a tad too dark for my skin directly out of the tube but after applying, it's fine. I think it could work for many light/medium skintones (ie, not fair or deep) but I wish the company would make it in more shades!!
Not orange on my neutral/cool skin
MTW from Long Beach CA
Not a review writer but since this is one of like 10 Malasezia (FA) safe sunscreens I thought I would assuage any fears of this being aggressively orange. I'm a paler gal and this blended to be unnoticeable and has no avobenzone AND didn't break me out. Major wins!
Feels good on the skin

Very good primer. This doesn't feel sticky at all. I will buy this product again!
Not matte, but kind to my skin
Rebekah from Florida
This was definitely not matte on me! It's so shiny that I must use a finishing powder. I tried wearing it without powder on top & someone at the grocery store said I looked oily. It doesn't feel greasy though, it has a nice feel on my sensitive dry skin & doesn't cause irritation.
I wanted a sunscreen I could wear alone or under makeup, but I can't wear this alone because it doesn't have the matte finish it promises. It transfers onto my masks & remains slightly tacky. I will be trying a different sunscreen from this brand that will hopefully be more suitable. Please note that does my complaints, this is still miles better than a typical american sunscreen.
I am alabaster pale & I didn't notice the tint. I tried it on half my face & asked my sisters, they said one half was a little shinier but didn't notice a more even skin tone.
Love it! But the tint has gotten lighter

I've been using this specific product on and off for the last 6 or so years and I love it! long term use does dry out my skin, which is why I will take breaks. With that being said, it is an amazing primer! I have sampled some of the high end stuff (hourglass, smashbox, urban decay, Guerlain, YSL) and this one is my favorite for the look I like to achieve and my skin type. No shade to the brands I mentioned, but I have oily/combo textured skin and those brands tend to make me look greasy. Cotz helps me control oil and smooth out my skin in one fell swoop. since I am oily, the "matte" effect doesn't really appear on my skin, it just adds control which makes me look glowy. Like I mentioned, if i use this more than 4 days in a row i notice my skin will feel dry, so I take breaks. I love that it is a mineral sunscreen that doesn't leave a white cast on my brown/tan skin. However, I have noticed that since I first discovered this product several years ago (when the packaging was still white and orange) the tint has gotten lighter. I was concerned it wouldn't look as good on me, and fortunately for me it looked fine, but I much preferred the warmer bronze tint to this beige tint. Plus, I would imagine this lighter tint limits the use to lighter skin tones. Over all, I will not stop using this because of how great the product is. It sits well under powder or liquid foundation, it makes my skin look amazing just on it's own, and it isn't a chemical sunscreen. it has so many positives going for it. I absolutely recommend.

I've tried using the product a couple days, but it keeps pilling and rubbing off my face! I don't mind the tint - it goes away as you blend it in. But the pilling looks awful under makeup, and seeing as this product is supposed to double as an SPF and a primer, I was hoping it would aid in creating a flawless base. I was sadly disappointed.
The negative reviews don't lie

As a dark skinned woman, I was looking forward to a tinted sunscreen to get the benefits of iron oxide. After all, the raving reviews, I took the plunge. I am quite shocked at the stellar reviews.
This comes out like a thick paste, difficult to spread on and leaves a white/grey cast that does not sink in even 5 hours later. Best to use to a costume party I guess if you are going as casper, otherwise please avoid.
Kaitie from Long Beach
This has been my holy grail product this summer. I have oily skin and it stays matte all day. Easy application and spread, and I haven't sunburned while using either.

I love this product. The face that is has SPF is a bonus. Super smooth on the skin. No tackiness after applying. Breathable.
Love this product!

I was a bit hesitant to buy this product since I never really have been able to find a tinted SPF for my pale skin but I decided to get this after all the good reviews. And it's a good thing I did, I love this SPF primer! I have sensitive, acne-prone skin and I have been using this for a week and I haven't had any problems with it. It is a little dark for my face if I use it alone since my neck is extremely pale, but I put Tarte's SPF powder and a lighter powder on top and it evens everything out perfectly. It does make my skin appear a bit more even, but the tint doesn't do much. It won't exactly hide any imperfections, but it's a perfect tint if you want a natural makeup look if you pair it with a powder. I highly recommend this product and I wish they could make a higher SPF one too.
I will use this forever

How did I just find this???? I love this. It makes my skin feel so soft and smooth. It offers light coverage, with skin smoothing effects. Also, this spf doesn't sting or burn (or stink!) like most do. The product itself feels like a mousse. I just adore it. I couldn't recommend it enough! Buy it!! You won't regret it.
Pore Blurring and Nice Coverage
Christina from Texas
This tinted sunscreen has a mousey feel and applies nicely on the skin. It evened out my skin tone and blurred my pores similar to a makeup primer. I wore it by itself without makeup, but it would also work nicely with makeup. The tinted light coverage lasted all day, except for my oily nose, but overall impressed. A little tacky to the touch, but I didn't set my face with any powder. Definitely pricey for only 1.7 ounces, I almost don't want to waste it for everyday use. I will need to find a cheaper everyday alternative and save this sunscreen for makeup days.

I've been using this product for years. I wear this instead of foundation in the summer.

I have never left a review on a makeup product but this ish right here? Life changing.
I've never found a pore-filling primer that does what it claims to do, and that doesn't just clog pores instead of hiding them. Not only does this COMPLETELY blur my pores, it makes my foundation last at least twice as long, and it doesn't break me out!! The ingredients are completely safe for anyone with sensitive skin or fungal acne, like myself. AND IT HAS SPF??? are you kidding? couldn't be more perfect. Just buy it
Yes of course

I have been using Cotz for about 2 years now, and it is hands down the best sunblock for my face I have ever used. I have tried so many sunblocks and they either, left me with a sunburn (with reapplication every 1 and a half to 2 hours) or it left me with irritation/breakouts. This does not break me out, and I can reapply every 2 hours even on the highest of UV index days and still no burn. Not only does it work great, it doesn't feel greasy, and on days where I wear make up it works great as a primer. (I've never tried it under makeup when using flash photography) I recommend this to everyone. When I'm having a good skin day it's even great to wear by itself because it evens skin tone and primes the skin. I cannot say enough about this sunblock, and if you haven't given it a shot, look no further than right here.
Works great to keep makeup on age face protected
SKCrane from WA
I have used it on its own and with makeup. Both in the heat with sweat and without and I feel like it has worked great for me all around. The only downsides for me is the price and the size. I thought with the cost it would of been bigger and was surprised when it arrived. But am super happy with it and am excited to try more from this brand.
Feels nice on my face
Niki from Mphs, TN
I've tried several sunscreens and this is the only one so far that's not irritating. The tint helps to mask the dark marks before applying makeup. The built in primer helps makeup look nice.
