Most Helpful Positive Review A few tips to make this work
The first time I used this, it was a disaster. Sooooo shiny, with a grayish undercast… I thought I'd made a mistake. But I really wanted it to work - I had been using the Serum, and that wan't working for me. My complexion always looked dull, and it was too time consuming to blend it without streaking. I also didn't want to go back to the powder foundation. My skin is on the oily side, and with the powder, my skin always ended up even oilier by mid-day.
So I persisted with the Complexion Rescue, and now I absolutely love it. My skin has a nice, illuminated appearance, without looking too oily. The level of hydration is perfect for my skin.
I can tell from some of the negative reviews that they are making some of the same mistakes that I initially did, so here are a few tips I found that make it work beautifully.
1. Don't use too much. I can't emphasize this enough. A pea sized amount is all you should use. Think of a pea, and then make that size happen on the brush (Tip 1-a; use the brush). I dot that all over my face and blend until the brush feels pretty dry against my face.
2. After blending, let it soak in for a few minutes. If you try to put Mineral Veil, or Warmth on right away, it gets cakey and messy. Walk away and do something else for a few minutes.
3. Coverage is light to medium. If you have dark circles or red spots, dab on a concealer over trouble areas.
4. I use Warmth and a spot of blush but depending on skin tone, you may not need these. Coverage is pretty sheer, so if you are lucky enough to have some nice, natural color, this product won't hide it.
5. Don't skip the Mineral Veil unless you like super-shiny skin. The mineral-based sunscreen gives a white-ish shine which the mineral veil takes away. But - this is my favorite part - your skin still appears nicely dewey and lit from within after the dusting of mineral veil.
Most Helpful Critical Review Beware: Size is now MUCH smaller
The tube size has been changed significantly, but the price has not. This now costs about $14/ounce MORE than it did previously. This makes the product much too expensive for what it is. I hate how they kept the outside box the same and didn't change the external packaging at all. Seems very sneaky. I've loved the product for several years, but now the hugely increased cost per ounce means I might as well buy a better quality foundation for the price. Sigh. Hate when good things change.

I was so excited to use this because of the great reviews. I wanted light coverage with sunscreen. As soon as I put it on my face it began breaking apart and turned into a patchy mess. Did I get a bad bottle? Or did it react to something else on my face? I use hyaluronic acid serum and a vitamin c serum in the morning. I really wanted to love this!
Soothing to irritated skin
Victoria from Boston
I have used this product for five years now and I have always received many compliments. My skin is hypersensitive and very red. I use the shade Opal and don't find it to be to light. I apply this at first with a beauty blender, it is light coverage but so easy to build to fuller coverage. After I use the blender, I always buff out with a kabuki brush and then I'm good to go, blends like a dream and never settles in fine lines. This is a holy grail for everyday wear and those who don't want a full face but even complexion. I never write reviews ever but I had a pretty bad flare with my skin recently and couldn't put anything on to even soothe it EXCEPT for this! Yes, highly reactive skin and my makeup helped, that's a total win for me.
It works okay
Lucy from Aromas
It is a great product, but it won't cover blemishes or redness and it does separate because of it's gel like texture.
Exactly what I was looking for!
A from FL
I am not a foundation person. I was looking for something not heavy with light coverage when I came across this product. I tried applying with the recommended brush and found it was to streaky. I applied with my fingers, blended it in and and it was perfect! Just the right amount of natural looking coverage for me. I use bare minerals hydrating veil on top and I am very pleased with the look.
Lightweight Moisturizer that evens skin
Laura from Los Angeles
This product has virtually no coverage, but it's perfect for a light makeup day or just feeling a little put together in the morning! Because The coverage is so light, I felt like I needed more and more product to try and cover up. However, this moisturizer layers well with other products, so it's great with a full coverage concealer. It reminds me of Glossier products, which really enhances your natural complexion. I would recommend the Colourpop Pretty Fresh tinted Moisturizer or the Honest Beauty CC+ Moisturizer to those who want a more full coverage tinted moisturizer. For Lightweight everyday use, with sheer coverage, this product is great!
Ride or die
Hannah from Richmond, VA
This product is my ride or die! I have sensitive skin that has massive pores on my cheeks which results to texture. Heavy, full coverage foundation makes my skin look awful but this product makes my skin look healthy and flawless! Having bad skin doesn't mean you can't wear lightweight tinted moisturizers. Personally mine looks better with it!
HATED this. WHAT a poor product & sad option
Lipstick Queen from San Diego
I got this because it was advertised as a "natural looking skin perfecter with sun protection" FOR ALL SKIN TYOES. It couldn't have been more wrong. I had been using BareMinerals since 1998 and LOVED it and THE FANTASTIC SKIN CARE when Leslie was in charge. AFTER the sale of the company I tried to keep an open mind and go with the changes but I have NOT been happy with most ALL of the changes, THIS Is one of them. IT SEEMS ANYTHING that everyone loved and that WORKS WELL gets discontinued or replaced with a INFERIOR product. I have gone through one item at a time trying to continue using this line and have been constantly LET DOWN, disappointed and ended up PAYING WAY MORE FOR WAY LESS since the company has been taken over. I am DONE trying to make this line work for me. The makeup is a let down, the skin care is NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL LINE and DOES NOTHING but break me out, cause irritation or do NOTHING AT ALL for FAR TOO MUCH money, This broke me out and was pretty much USELESS as a "skin perfecter" OR an SPF as it slides off and smears and is GONE before it can keep you from getting sunburnt. IT IS SO SAD, the products used to be so GOOD, now even the Mineral Veil is ORANGE & NOT "translucent" or usable on FAIR SKIN. There is ONLY a handful of things that are worth using.
Perfect tinted moisturizer!!!! Great for darker skin !
The best tinted moisturizer from San Luis Obispo
So i tried the smashbox halo tinted moisturizer the color selection for dark skin type wasn't the best very orange & kinda dry but this !!!!! I guessed my color & it matched perfect which is hard to do ! & it leaves & nice dewy finish ! Lightweight ...I think people forget tinted moisturizers are more on the dewy side so if you don't like dewy this isn't for you !
I LOVE IT!!!

I wear it everyday!!! I LOVE IT!!!!
Don't need a primer! Very quick in the mornings!!
Jangee from Texas
with sensitive skin. I was able to use this for 3 days before I started breaking out. sad because it did have a good pretty coverage.
nice color but oily
jenjen96 from new York, ny
I've been using this product for a couple months now. I purposely chose a shade darker than my skin tone because it's summertime & i usually have some color. Even if i don't have any color, this product is easy to blend down my neck. the color is beautiful and long lasting but my only issue is that I get insanely oily pretty fast when I wear it. the only way I can wear this product now is if I apply powder over it. the powder (laura mercier) makes it beautiful.
It's a decent tinted moisturizer
Sara from Texas
For very light coverage with some glow and sun protection, this isn't a bad product at all. I like it because it takes out some steps for 5 minute makeup days. That being said, there are many things I don't like about this product. 1.5 birch is too light but Vanilla is too yellow tinted for my skin tone, so I don't have a perfect match. This product NEVER seems to play nicely with other products I use to prime... doesn't like my neutrogena sunscreen, doesn't like lotion, always pills up and falls off like crazy, so I would say that it doesn't play nicely with others. If you forget to exfoliate your face or have any dry patches whatsoever, this product will do its utmost to emphasize those areas on your skin, almost like it's calling you out for not being perfect. It's supposed to be fragrance free I think, but it has a kind of strange smell to it regardless. I haven't found a light coverage product that is in this price range that I'm really in love with yet, so I can't really recommend any other product yet that would improve upon this one.
Great Tinted Moisturizer!
Megan from Michigan
This is a great tinted moisturizer that works well with almost all skin types. It is very smoothing and provides a coverage that is somewhere in the middle of tinted moisturizer and bb cream. It's best to use a pea size amount of product and apply it with your hands or with a buffing brush. This product gives a semi-luminous finish but if you have very oily skin like I do, pair this with the makeup revolution hydra matte primer and the Maybelline fit me pressed powder. These two products combined with this gorgeous tinted moisturizer will extend the wear time significantly if you have oily skin.
Cakey Patchy Dry, yet Shiney - No Stars
JaeCee from Hanover, MD
I have combination skin. I applied Bare Minerals Poreless Moisturizer to my clean skin. I tried the recommended BM Smoothing Face Brush, but it looked horrible. So I tried finger tips, next go around, not as bad, but still horrible. Last ditch effort, I tried make-up sponges - still no luck.
This product settles into your pores, looking like tiny iridescent pin-drops. It attaches itself to dry areas looking patchy, yet still iridescent.
It doesn't seem to know what it wants to be - liquid foundation....powder foundation....dust glitter...? Not a good combination for combination skin.
GREAT coverage for a tinted moisturizer!
Bianca from Dallas, TX
I bought this in attempt to cover up my acne as I go through an acne purge, and was surprised with how much coverage this product gives on its own. It evens out my skintone and covers up my scars, and then I go over individual blemishes with a lightweight concealer. If I set with a setting spray, this stays put all day, even with a bit of sweat! I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for decent coverage that doesn't feel to heavy, and the SPF 30 is another plus!
My go to!
Lauren from Dracut, MA
I really loved this product. I'm super pale but got it in 1.5 so it would give me a slight glow. It's really easy to work with. I recommend using your fingers to apply then a wet sponge or foundation brush to blend out the edges. I'm super oily but I find this product looks nice when I get oily instead of clumping up like some of my foundations do. I prefer to mix this with my Winky Lux tinted moisturizer, but I also wear it on it's own sometimes. I also love that it doesn't oxidize. That's always something I'm worried about because of how fair I am. The only thing is how expensive it is.
I wanted to love this :(
Sno from California
I got this foundation after seeing so many good reviews on it, even from people with oily skin. I decided to pick it up since it has SPF as well.
Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to make this look good on my skin. I used my fingers at first, as the instructions say to do so, but that made it super streaky. I tried switching to a brush and that made it look much less streaky, but it sank into my pores. It looked really good on my chin and cheeks though.
After I stopped using it, I started breaking out. Wut
Tc from MN
I really wanted to like this, but as a person with normal/dry skin it clings to all my dry patches. The texture is lightweight, yet moussey which I didn't like. The color is fine, I have Buttercream since my skin tone has yellow/olive undertones. It's still a bit peachy. I think in order for this to work for me I'd have to do meticulous skin prep, but since this is a tinted moisturizer I wanted it to be quick for everyday use.
Favorite for everyday
Zeph from US
I am 25, normal/dry skin. I stopped wearing foundation everyday because it was taking too much time and it was causing a lot of clogged pores, even if I double cleansed every time I took my makeup off.
I started using this as a means to stop wearing a lot of makeup. Its perfect to use everyday since it also has SPF and I live in Arizona. In 110 degree weather, this is PERFECT and I don't feel like my makeup is melting off my face. It is a more natural look but when I need to cover some scars or blemishes I just add a little bit of concealer and I'm good to go.
It is hydrating and I can see if some people might think that it makes their skin oily but since I have dry/normal skin this is a much better option for me than foundation.
This is the only face makeup I've purchased multiple times and I like pairing it with a cream blush for a more natural look.
Looks and feels great on but...
AmberL11 from Virginia
I have combination skin and I rarely ever actually get pimples or anything. But for some reason after a week of using this, my skin started breaking out. Which sucks because this looks amazing on, and it's SO lightweight.
Kate from Colorado
So at first I really liked this—it goes on easy w/a beauty blender and it is super lightweight and hydrating with skin friendly ingredients. But it oxidized horribly and turned me orange, creating a VERY obvious line near the neck. The color started out matching perfectly, the line appears after it sets in and gets that exposure. Additionally, it is very light coverage at best and even when I layered, it never covered up my skin imperfections. This is often classified in the beauty world as a top pick cc cream but IMO this really is just a tinted moisturizer.
Really happy with this purchase
SimplyKim from California
Due to wearing a mask at work all day, I stopped wearing foundation makeup.
Now when I use foundation I feel overly made up...
You've heard the rule for older ladies, less is better... I finally agree!
Anyway, using just my MAC skinfinish mineral powder was not enough, so I searched for a tinted moisturizer. I bought this, based on reviews, Thank You!
I love it.... gives me just enough but not too much!!

Perfect for combination skin
Tomatik from Houston, TX
I apply it after the moisturizer cream. It works for me as SPF protection and foundation with light-medium coverage depends on the amount of the product. i really like that It has perfect color match to my skin. Perfect for light summer make up!
Perfect & Light for Summer!
Amanda from NH
I was looking for a lighter coverage summer makeup with an spf. Most my foundations are just too heavy for daily hot weather use.
This is extremely light on the skin but provides just enough coverage. I don't feel like I have anything on but it evens out my redness with a light coverage.
I knew for sure this was a hit when my usually not makeup observant boyfriend asked me what I had been using that makes my face "glowy and model-y" because he liked it! This does provide a dewy finish which is good for a nice all over glow. However, I imagine if it's too much you could tame with some setting powder.
Wanted to love this
Ulta from Pennsylvania
I have very sensitive acne and rosacea prone skin and this never broke me out. When I first put it on it feels light and offers sheer coverage but as the day goes on the "radiance" just keeps intensifying to the point that I look embarrassingly shiny - but not oily to the touch. I've never had another product do this before and don't like to use powder because it clogs my pores and emphasizes texture. I hope they'll expand this product to include a more matte version like other brands have done.
