Most Helpful Positive Review Goodness in a bottle
This product is no joke. It's basically a dye but not nearly as damaging(obviously). It's visibly dark and noticeably containing the ability to deliver the desired effects. Be SURE to wear gloves of some sort! I used a hair net after applying so I could continue to finish up my showering duties. I washed my body, shaved, and exfoliated my face while my hair was up in a net with this product for a good 10 minutes. The product only says 5 minutes is needed(which I totally believe would be plenty of time) but I was so excited and really wanted to execute the goodness within and give it A chance to work its magic. Rinsing our the product was not nearly as difficult as I was afraid it may be. I used my removable shower head and rinsed as they would in a salon. The mask did stain my hands but that's my fault for underestimating the power within. It's unreal that I am able to achieve my desired color outcome without having to apply damaging dyes to my hair(which I don't have time to do anyway!). I can literally put this on following my usual shampooing and conditioning(which, those products are awesome as well) treatment, put a hair net, forget about it, and continue with my shaving, exfoliating, body washing, etc. it's a breeze, but like I said PROTECT your hands if you don't want dark residue under your nails lol! It wasn't hair to remove but I could have avoided the stained hands had I respected the warning on the bottle. My mother is already trying to steal these products from me for herself, she can see the results within my hair after only about a week of use. I noticed the results instantly but of course it takes others longer to notice those kinds of things. Not to mention, I gave her no insight into the fact I was using such a product. She freaked out thinking I had dyed my hair, knowing my hate for dye. Thought I finally was so fed up with uneven red tones from years of dye in high school/never being able to FULLY get my true color back. Nope momma! No dye!
Most Helpful Critical Review All right mask for moisture - not sure about the coloring
So it doesn't really specify whether to use this after the conditioner or right after the shampoo. I just went ahead and used it after shampooing so my hair would be fresh and ready for whatever this mask had in store for me.
Overall I got this to review and I wonder if they meant to send it to someone who colors their hair dark on a regular basis, my hair is naturally soft black and is dark enough on its own. I was expect that this would deeper the back and give it a cool tone. I thought it would look nice for a subtle change - nothing dramatic but satisfying enough for me right? There are some spots in my hair where it goes really light brown (usually at some of the ends) so it figure this would make my hair color even. I was nervous about the color pigment that I've never really been exposed to before; I have never colored my own hair and it says on the bottle this can stain. Additionally, my bottle of this mask arrived damaged so I had that fun to deal with as well when I left it on the side of my shower. I didn't notice any long-term staining on my shower or bath mat but I would definitely hide your white pajamas or towels around this sucker.
I left it on for five minutes, used the Dark Envy conditioner and didn't look at my hair until I rinsed it out and styled it. I can't honestly say I noticed a difference. Like I mentioned, I'm not sure if this line was -made- for me and mostly designated for people that color their hair darker but as far as color balancing goes, this wasn't for me. I will say though, my hair didn't feel dry and my curls were nicely defined and I know bad hair washing can be to blame for when it isn't. So at the very least, I got a good hair day out of this.

Alright. I previously posted images of my 1st time use. Here's updated images for my 2nd time using this product. And I'm not disappointed. As I put before do your own research and know your hairs level(s) before diving in.

I dyed my hair during quarantine from red to dark brown because the maintenance for my red hair had become too much, and I wanted to go back to my natural hair color. However, when I had dyed my hair, I still had a lot of red, warm undertones. THIS PRODUCT WAS PERFECT FOR ME! The bottle says to leave it on for 5 mins, and I had initially tested that, but it made no difference. Definitely leave it on for about 20 mins, and you will see results! I had used a dye that neutralized my ends when I first dyed my hair, but it turned my hair green instead. THIS PRODUCT DOESN'T DO THAT. I think because it is a mix of dark blue and green, it works wonders for those who have dark brown hair with some red undertones that you are looking to neutralize.
To sum this all up, if you have dark brown hair with some red undertones that you want to get rid of, THIS PRODUCT IS FOR YOU! Lastly, leave it on your head for at least 20 mins for it to work. If you only put it on for 5 mins as the bottle says, it doesn't do anything.

if you know me you know i hate having warm tones in my hair because i feel like it clashes with neutral/cool skin tone. this product definitely helped reduce the warm tones in my color treated hair but obviously didn't eliminate them completely. it neutralizes and makes your hair super soft and smell nice so yea i would totally buy this product again and it is well worth the money.

My feedback is mostly on my uploaded photos.
- wear gloves if you don't want stained hands for a day
- I personally choose to leave my mask on for 20 minutes instead of 5 as my hair is naturally thick and curly
- I did not use the complete system only the Mask
- My hair was washed a day before, therefore the day i used the product my hair was re wetted and brushed through
- Do your own research and know what level your hair is. Also go visit Matrix site for more details
TURNED HAIR GREEN
BCV from Midwest
Used on my dark brown hair because hair turns red from the sun and totally stayed red on the top and the rest of my hair is GREEN. Ridiculous.
Be warned: Your hands will be slightly stained
Allie from New York, NY
I enjoy this mask but it stains my hands when I used it. It's nothing terrible but it does get a little annoying because they are stained even out of the shower. It washed away after a few hands washes. The scent is also more earthy than I prefer in hair products.

it turned my hair blue and green!! threw it out immediately.
If you have orange hair, BUY THIS NOW!
Alexandria from Lubbock, TX
If you are in the process of going lighter and don't want to damage your hair with toner, use this! I know blue shampoo is highly recommended to cancel out orange hair, but every blue shampoo I have tried isn't strong enough to neutralize the orange! This masque works so well in ONE single use to cancel out the orange. Your hair will look either neutral brown or ashy brown after using this once. I like this masque better than the dark envy shampoo and conditioner. The green shampoo didn't work for me, and this dark envy mask was the only thing in all of Ulta to neutralize my orange hair. This is a great option if you want to neutralize your hair while waiting a few weeks/months to get your hair bleached again. One single use will last you at least 3 days if you wash your hair daily. I have blonde ends, so I just apply this to the sections of my hair that are orange (my roots to halfway down my hair) and put in a regular conditioner on the parts of my hair that are blonde to protect it from getting a green tint. If you're thinking about trying Wella t18, please don't buy that and try THIS MASQUE NOW! You will be SO much happier with the results.
Messy but kind of worked
Tawny from Washington
I will never use this again because it stained my hands, my skin and my shower, and no where in the directions does it say to wear gloves or that this might happen. However, it appears to have helped a tiny bit with the red tones coming through my dark brown hair. Not enough to warrant the mess, but enough where I noticed it.
This product saved me!
Candela from New York
At first I bought the shampoo and conditioner. Didn't do much. The Shampoo neutralized a little bit the red but not that much. I had bleached my hair, and then I wanted my natural hair back. My original color is a 3-4 ashy brunette, so when they toned my hair at the salon, they had to make it darker in order to go back to my natural color.
After got my hair toned dark, it started to get very red.
I decided to give it a try to this Dark Envy Collection. But the best product out of the 3 to me, was the neutralization mask. It completely took out the red, and it really made my hair shiny and glossy, which was very dry because of all the bleach I had.
I highly recommend it.
Turned my hair green!!!
erin from no
after dying my hair with henna i was suggested this product to neutralize the red in my hair and after one use it turned my hair green!!!! I only put it in my hair for 2 minutes because the color looked so vibrant coming out of the bottle!! 2 stars because TECHNICALLY it got rid of the red but now i'm green. DO NOT BUY
Great Product for Brunettes Who Pull Red
Megbobeg from Oklahoma
As a blonde, I was obsessed with Matrix So Silver. I recently went back to brunette (more natural), and my hair pulls red something fierce. I saw this new product and got super excited because this like WORKS. I have only used it once, and I do see a difference, perhaps not as dramatic as my first application of So Silver, but this does work. I'm not sure there is a product that would remove all of the red tones in my hair, but this did make it a darker brown, which I love.
Michelle from NY
I literally never write reviews but felt I had to share this amazing product. I have dark brown hair with a red tint to it (especially in the summer). The red tint drives me nuts and I've been trying to get rid of it for as long as I could remember. This is the only thing I've ever tried that has worked. I put it on dry hair, waited about 20 min and rinsed it. I had low expectations going into trying this but wow am I amazed.
Totally stained my hair green. Would not buy again.
Sarah from Woodland
Stained my hair a greenish color, even when I only left in for a few minutes as suggested. I've used the Matrix blue shampoo and had no trouble with that. Would never buy the conditioner again.
Saved my ash hair that pulled red
Jenn from Philadelphia
I accidentally lifted my naturally ashy hair and it turned sooo horribly orange and red. I tried everything, from blue hair masks to actual blue hair dye but nothing stuck. Then I realized maybe I need to go one more color down the color wheel. This made my hair brown again!!! Thank you so much.
Would of cut my hair if not for this one last try
Tina from Michigan
Growing out an old ombre. My hair goes down to my bum. The last 12" foot is old blonde that's been dyed multiple times to try and match my natural color grow out. Always turns orange, yellow, and super red. This mask was my last attempt before just chopping off the colored hair (which I didn't want to do). This mask matches my natural color perfectly, and kept me from a big chop. Worth every penny. Awesome stuff.
Miracle product I swear to god!
Robin from Washington
I didn't purchase, but I would! My friend and I both had dyed blue-black hair, and she gave this mask to me to use. The issue with my hair is that I'd lightened it at home before dyeing it, used color oops after a dye mishap, so there are a lot of orange tones underneath the black dye. I'm also trying to grow out my natural hair again, a sort of cool brown/blonde shade, and it helps my roots blend in really well!! I wish I'd found this stuff or the blue version when my hair was lighter, it would have saved me a lot of money and hassle on dye. I noticed that the tiny bit of orange/lighter hair in my bangs looked a TAD green, so be careful if your hair is too light, but other than that, I love this stuff.
Not as dramatic as advertised
Moon mama from Arkansas
I used this along with the shampoo and conditioner in the same line. I had recently box dyed my hair what was supposed to be "dark chocolate" from dark blonde/light brown. Well I ended up with dark cherry auburn with lighter cherry roots. Not a cute look. So after debating shaving my head I found this product and decided to try it first. Thankfully it works well enough to keep me from shaving my head. Its not as dramatic as advertised, but maybe I'll leave it on a little longer next time. It did stain my scalp green which isn't my favorite thing, but I'm sure it will fade out soon enough. Overall I would say this was money well spent especially since salons are closed and I am not able to get a professional color correction until who knows when. This definitely toned down the red and evened out the root situation.
d from Dallas TX
i've used this about 3 times so far + honestly didn't notice any difference at all aside from my hair being a little shinier. i have thick very dark brown hair with warm undertones.
Steph K from Edgerton, OH
So far I have only used this one time, but I can already tell a slight difference. While some red still remain, it's definitely a toned down version, and actually looks great (I've even had other people notice and compliment the color).
I have Vivid Green hair and I love this.
Aeris from AZ
I am actually a Cosmetologist that works in another Salon and I have had Vivid green hair for years now. Although this shampoo/conditioner/mask combo isnt for "Vivid" hair I will say it makes my hair feel amazing. I've used it on clients as well for the dark neutralization properties and they LOVE it. The hair looks healthy, shiny and manageable. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is curious about trying it. Unlike most Color Depositing products it does not dry out or dull the hair.
Will buy again

Works as sdvertised.
Jen from Columbus
I use this product in between wash days when my hair starts to get a little dry. I have used this product a couple of times and it really works. It not only leaves my hair super soft it really helps neutralize the reddish color that I have on my ends from past color treatment. I will warn you that if you hair isn't close to black it will darken your hair if you leave it on for too long. Usually I leave it in for 5 minutes and it leaves my hair super glossy and evens out my hair color. This product is great to use in between hair color treatments if you can make it to the salon right away
The real product in the set
Geo BML from NYC
Product does work. Only thing is that for these products you have to make sure you dry your hair completely after washing and also you use gloves while working the product in.
This was a flop for me.
Trippy from Chicago,Il
I used this product as a follow up to the conditioner in the line although it didn't specify when I should. It stained my hand which it does warn you. I couldn't really see a difference in my hair. I would recommend to someone that actually has red undertones in their brown hair.
