Most Helpful Positive Review Am a Nioxin convert
I started using all Nioxin 3 products one month ago; shampoo, conditioner, scalp treatment, volumizing thickening spray and extra hold hairspray. Since I use them all together, it's hard to say specifically if one of the products works or doesn't. In my honest opinion, the Nioxin line has improved the body and texture of my hair greatly. I recently turned 51 and it's been within the last year or two that I noticed my hair thinning (mostly on the sides). I keep my hair in a chin-length, layered bob. It's always been fine so it's always been a challenge to make it look fuller and healthier. But this line of products does that. The shampoo and conditioner have a (very) strong eucalyptus/menthol fragrance and they do make my scalp tingle (I like it - it feels like something is happening). A little bit of shampoo goes a long way. When I'm rinsing the product out, my hair does feel thicker...like I have a bigger handful than before. I use the scalp treatment after I towel dry my hair. It's very watery (not sticky) and the nozzle is a strange choice for an applicator; it can run down your face if you squirt too much on. I don't know that I'm seeing any specific results from the scalp treatment yet (but I read it takes three months) but it does work well in conjunction with the other products. I use the thickening spray as a styling product - lightly spraying it all through my hair. It really injects fullness and lightness into my hair (no stickiness or heaviness). I finish it off with the hairspray (again, not heavy or sticky) and I am generally very happy with the outcome. I'd recommend watching a video on how to blow dry your hair using a large round brush for volume. A good haircut along with the right products, tools and techniques makes it possible for those of us not blessed with beautiful hair to have good hair days. I do think Nioxin is the right product for me. I would highly recommend trying it.
Most Helpful Critical Review This product accelerates color fade dramatically!
Regardless of the Nioxin 3 label claiming to be for colored hair, I found this product accelerates color fade dramatically. The two main ingredients after water are Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. If you color you hair, you probably know to stay away from sulfate shampoos. These surfactants are very effective at cleaning. They remove oils very well and heavy build-ups?of polymers from hair. ?That is why they are often included in shampoos for fine hair. Sulfate shampoos, being great cleaners, will remove layers of conditioning. Once the protective layers are gone, water can penetrate hair easily. The result: faster color loss. My experience with Nioxin 3 was awful.

works great as clarifying shampoo

So.. I'm going to be honest. I don't have thin or thinning hair, I'm working with 3b. I was looking for an 'emergency' shampoo to help with the itchiness from product buildup.
This was the first non-salon brand I've bought in years (thank you pandemic!) and the smell was a little jarring at first as I'm not used to strong-smelling products. I'm starting to come around to the mintyness, and it's definitely improved my scalp! I haven't noticed any change in the intensity of my color treated hair, but I've definitely noticed that as a heavy shedder this didn't make much of a dent if at all.
Product Causes Rash!
Meg from Texas
I used this product for the first time and broke out in a massive rash everywhere my hair touched my skin. I had to rinse everything out of my hair and re-wash my body to contain it. I am not allergic to any of the ingredients so it is definitely not an allergic reaction and was caused by the product. I am returning it immediately and will not be touching Nioxin products again.
Test on a patch of skin first!

So I'm here to say that I did enjoy all of the products. I feel that the shampoo/conditioner has really helped my hair and it smells amazing. I do want to warn people however because I had an extremely awful allergic reaction on my skin from the scalp spray. It may not do that to everyone but I highly suggest doing a test patch before spraying it on your whole head! I had the worst rash ever on my head, shoulders, face, and anywhere my hair touched.

I have been using this product for about a year. I started using this before my hair really started to thin. I have fine hair and it volumizes my hair and makes it look great. It also helps with my spots where pony tails pulled when I was younger.
This really thickened my hair and helped

I am ordering my 3 rd bottle of this Amanda I have various scalp Nioxin treatments. This has really thickened and improved the look of my hair . My hair was very breakable and thinning And slow to grow. This has helped tremendously and I have a sensitive scalp and so I still occasionally have to use a clarifying or medicated shampoo to clear up my scalp issues this seems to help my blond hair be even thicker!
This saved my hair!!

I have been using this everyday as directed for a week and already my hair has stopped falling and shinier. I can talk the density is improving as well. I was losing my hair due to a birth control i was taking and it was very scary how much was falling out. This has made me feel so much better in such a short time and i am so so grateful i found it!!! It smells great, feels great and does exactly what it states!!
I normally always buy this product

This shampoo should have a minty smell. But this bottle's contents smell like a old damp towel. I would love to get a replacement at no cost to me. I've used this Nioxin product for years despite the high cost.

this is great for scalp buildup, i have always had dry scalp/dandruff but these products feel great on your scalp. my hair feels super clean after using this and i haven't had any dandruff since i started using this 2 weeks ago. i can get away with only washing my hair once a week because it's so clarifying. hoping it will help my hair to grow as well!

I used Nioxin years ago, loved it, but switched to something else for a while. As I'm getting older, my hair seems thinner and I have combination skin. After shampooing with Nioxin again the last 4 months since December, my hair looks and feels thicker, it cleans my head/scalp great and I always feel so clean and fresh. Nioxin smells so minty and invigorating!

I used Nioxin's 'system 2' for over 4 months before switching to this one - system 3 as I had started getting my hair colored at the time. In this pack you get the cleanser, conditioner which is admittedly good quality and the scalp treatment. There was a minor difference to the amount of hair shedding (I used both systems back to back for a total of 7 months), but no re-growth. I strongly suggest a product called 'Divine Herbal hair oil' if it's regrowth you're looking for and to stop the shedding. Also make sure your shampoo does not contain sodium laureth sulfate as it is not good for hair health!
Pros: I found it's a simple to use system and fits well into my routine plus easy to get hold of.
Cons: mildly irritates my scalp, contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate, parabens & alcohol. Expensive to maintain.
Good conditioner , poor quality bottle/cap
Kjg from Indiana
I love the product and works great and does not weigh my hair down at all like most conditioners and seems to help with shampoo and the other scalp treatments associated and vitamins . The cap is defective and you have to hold it open and squeeze the bottle extremely hard to get any out! Very frustrating ! It's so thick and works great but please make a pump or a better way to dispense it please!!!!
Like how my hair looks and feels

I was using this product for a month or so and thought I wasn't seeing improvement with the amount of hair fall in the shower and on my brush so I decided to switch to Biolage Fiberstrong. Within two weeks my hair started looking awful, drying out and the color was ruined. I didn't see much improvement with hair fall out with that product either, so I quickly gave up on that and went back to this. After only two washes with Nioxin shampoo and conditioner 3 my hair looks and feels great again. Not sure how it improves the color, but my hair looks less brassy now than with fiberstrong. It looks soft, shiny, and fuller. I have decided to have faith that this product will do what it says it does. I do use the scalp treatment too and I find it helps with the itching that I used to get. I don't mind the smell and the tingling that others have complained about, but I do have to use twice and much conditioner than shampoo. And I wish the scalp treatment was sold in larger bottles for the price.

I would've given 0 stars if I could've.I used it for a week and my hair went from ashy brown to orange and it fried my hair. I don't even know how to repair what is damaged.

I have not been using the Nioxin products long enough to see any difference but I do not love the products. My hair has gotten much thinner due to hormonal changes. Fortunately I was bless with a very thick head of hair, that being said it is getting quite thin. The directions recommend washing every day but since I need to blow dry and at times use hot tools I do not want to put my hair through that daily so I am washing every three days. I will continue to use at least six months and probably longer, but if I see no difference I am switching back to my other products that contain no sulfates and make my hair look much healthier.

NOT FOR DYED HAIR, CAUSED HAIR LOSS, BAD INGREDIENTS
Amber from Michigan
I used this set of products only three times in two weeks, and my hair is thinner than it's ever been. I've not only lost MORE strands, but my hair is completely breaking off near the roots. I have pink, maintained, healthy hair that has been thinning for a while so I thought this product would be perfect. It does say hair shedding may be worse at first, but this is TERRIBLE. Also, it is NOT color safe. Ingredients include both sulfates and parabens which are huge no-no's for dyed hair, and just huge no-no's for any hair product in general. I had a substantial amount of dye that washed out so I don't understand how it can be "color-safe." The only thing this did for my hair that was positive was that it made it cleaner and surprisingly soft, but the cons outweigh the pros by far.
Doesn't work for me...
Undecided_sorry from Midwest
So I gave this system a little over a month to try. I knew from the reviews (from every website I stalked that sells this product) that there might be some fallout that could last a week or two. So I prepared myself. Fast forward to today, 34 days, and I'm still seeing fallout. Hair brush has to be cleaned off daily kinda fallout. I'm not bald... but I am concerned. I started with minimal hair fallout, and it increased slightly to medium fallout from using this. Anyway, about the products: I like the shampoo, I like the conditioner (do NOT get this stuff on your newly scrubbed face though, yikes). Hence, the 3 stars. However, I absolutely canNOT stand the spray! I stopped using it at week 3, and my hair looks slightly less ratty now. That spray. Was. Awful. It made my hair look greasy, as well as my normal-sensitive scalp feel as though it was always inflamed. I also know (from just my observations as well as my female intuition) that this [spray] was what kept me from seeing any results. For now, I will continue to use the shampoo and follow up with the condition. And that's it. I'm already on a second bottle of the shampoo, but I'm still undecided about the whole thing. Again, the shampoo is great! I think that this just didn't work for me bc that's the luck I usually have: works for everyone else, just not me. Hope others have better luck. Oooh, and no sign of new growth. Yes I know it's not exclusively a "hair growth system"... more like "promotes a better environment for the hair you have" type of product... buuut it would have been nice to see the babies sproutin.
