Comments about L'Oréal Superior Preference Fade-Defying Color & Shine:

I used this after bleaching my hair to cancel out the orangey/yellow tone. I was working with virgin jet black hair! Still can see some orange/copper but I'm no professional so pretty happy with the result! Like all hair dyes this one smells just as bad :p There was more than enough product for my below-shoulder length hair (pretty thick). The conditioner included made my hair feel super smooth!

I've been dying my own hair for the past 15 years and I've NEVER had a hair dye smell as strong as this one. Also, it left my hair feeling extremely dry and damaged. I will not be repurchasing this.

          Beautiful color, but doesn't last.

          By Karlee

          from Texas

Comments about L'Oréal Superior Preference Fade-Defying Color & Shine:

The first time I got the color I didn't leave it in long enough because I was just testing the waters to see if I could get away with it at work. So I just assumed that the reason for fading was because I didn't leave it in long enough. So I bought some more color and left it on for 40 minutes. After three washes it was all washed out. I love the color, just wish it would last longer than two weeks.

I've never died hair before. i used this to dye my wig. instructions were very easy to follow. and color came out exactly the way i wanted. i don't know if that smell is normal with hair dye. but i couldn't stand it. i had to leave the room while i let the dye set in my wig. i don't think i would use this on my own hair though because the smell is unbearable.

My hair is salt & pepper. I've been looking for the right color forever. 8G reminds me of what my hair looked like when I was a kid. I don't have to have it highlighted. It picks up the shading in my hair. As perfect as a box can get.

I tried a cool/anti-brass brown shade and ended up with hot roots. I have been coloring my hair myself for years and this is the first time that I have ended up with a color so different from the image on the box. I followed the instructions precisely but I now have RED roots (and white, because it didn't even cover the grays).

It's difficult to make a personalized recommendation based on this form of communication so if you would like more a detailed recommendation, please call our toll free number at 1-800-631-7358 Mon-Fri 9:00-7:00 ET. However, our neutrals and ash tones tend to keep brassiness away. We also recommend using our EverPure Blonde Shampoo that neutralizes brassiness. You can check this out by clicking the link below. I used Excellence #10 and it isn't as light as I like and didn't last as long, but I liked how my hair felt with it. I used Feria ultra light beige blonde in the past and really want something as light or lighter than that. I don't like to be too yellow. Can you recommend a product in place of the ultra light beige blonde?

On your light brown Hi Gigi! On your light brown/ dark blonde roots your hair will come out looking like the results pictured on the box. On the hair lightened to a pale blonde, the results will be a more intense pink. The color cue on panel on the side of the box will give a good idea of what to expect.

Hi there Rimay! We're sorry to hear about your frustrations with your haircolor! Since the hair has been previously bleached/highlighted, the green tones you are seeing are likely due to discoloration. We wouldn't suggest using the 4C on the hair as this can cause some further discoloration to the hair. To prevent discoloration, you would have to put back the warm pigment that the hair is currently lacking. We hope this information is helpful. If you'd like further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly!

                      • Brand Expert

                        A:

Hi Katrina! A color that contains ash has cool tones that will suppress natural warm tones such as red, orange, and yellow. If the shade says cool, it usually means it contains ash. We do not recommend using an ash or cool-toned shade on predominantly gray hair. A natural/neutral color has no warm or cool undertones. It will emphasize the natural tones that are already in your hair. A natural undertone is best for gray coverage. Warm tones will add more warmth, such as gold, red, or copper, to your hair.

If you are looking for a brown that doesn't contain red, we recommend a neutral brown shade. If you want to suppress all of the red, you can use an ash shade if you don't have predominantly gray hair. Hope this helps!

                    • Q:

I use 7.5A and I like the color. But after just a few washes (w/sulfate free shampoo, for, colored hair) it turns very yellow/brassy. What can I do besides re-coloring ~every 2 weeks?
Also, I have to add that the gray at the scalp and in front of my ears comes back very quickly. More quickly than when it is done in a salon.
I prefer to do it myself. I like the product so I am hoping for some advice and suggestions.
                      Thank you

                        A:

If you currently use the medium ash blonde 7.5A in the Preference, we recommend switching to the same shade in the Excellence. The pigments in the Exclellence are a bit more opaque so the coverage of the gray will be better. Always be sure to follow the touch up directions when coloring your hair and if you have hair longer than shoulder length or hair that's very thick, you may need more than one kit for full color saturation.

                        A:

Great question! Our hair color can only lighten 2 shades from your natural color. Your natural color, medium brown, is shade #5. The lightest shade you can use with your natural hair color is shade #7 Dark Blonde.
