    Not smart at all

    By Eve

    from New Jersey

Comments about Almay Smart Shade Skintone Matching Makeup:

The lightest shade is wayyyyy too dark for me. I thought it was supposed to intelligently match my skin tone but it makes me look like I got a spray tan. I'm surprised that the lightest one looks more like something for medium skin tones. I think the smart shade concept is just a gimmick. Doesn't actually work

Daily. I thought I was grabbing my usual Almay CC cream...which Ulta rarely stocks in my color. Got home, noticed the error, but gave it a try. It's good...I'd buy it again...so there ya go!

Comments about Almay Smart Shade Skintone Matching Makeup:

This is not meant to be a full coverage foundation. This product is perfect for everyday/natural makeup. I put some product in my hand and rub it out to make it adapt to my skin color then I put it on my face. The result is a fresh look. I put some brows, face powder and a shimmer eye shadow and that is my every day makeup routine. This product is underestimated, and it did take a while for me to start liking it, but now i don't know what I would do without it.

Comments about Almay Smart Shade Skintone Matching Makeup:

I had heard about this product for years, but avoided it because it seemed gimmicky. A makeup cant know your skin tone. I had a sample though and tried it out and I really like it. It's like a BB cream + a little extra.

It gives the illusion of matching, and it works almost perfectly for me, aside from being just a little too cool toned. I used a beauty blender the first time and it was thick and pasty and took forever to change from white to "matching." Used my fingers the next time and it blended perfectly and "matched" almost right away.

I don't know if my sample is the old or new formula—it came with an Almay mascara.

Comments about Almay Smart Shade Skintone Matching Makeup:

Before they changed the formula for Smart Shade I loved it and had been using it for years. I'm not sure why they would change something that worked beautifully, but the new forumla is not usable. I purchased several tubes from different stores thinking I may have just gotten a bad tube. I even waited several months and tried it again to see if they had fixed the problem. But every tube was exactly the same... horrible. They product is now worthless. It goes on white like clown make up and stays white. It sits like a gloppy layer and burns your skin and eyes. It also has a foul odor. I don't think it would be possible to make a worse foundation than this.

Comments about Almay Smart Shade Skintone Matching Makeup:

I have adored this product (NEW & IMPROVED Smart Shade™Skintone Matching Makeup) for at least 8 years. As I aged, I once tried the skin-matching foundation for older people and hated how thick it was, how hard to spread. By the time I went back to my former favorite it was changed to the "new and improved" formula and it's just as thick and awful as the age-defying product. Now I have to change to a new company and new product. I wish they'd just left it alone!

Comments about Almay Smart Shade Skintone Matching Makeup:

I have very fair skin and have a hard time finding foundations that match me. I'd heard good things about this product and the promise of it being "tone matching" was appealing to me. I had high hopes and was very disappointed. It's difficult to apply with anything other than your fingers because you need to mix the pigment. I tried with a beauty blender the first time and thought this product was just straight white - it didn't mix at all. Once I figured out how to apply it correctly, the lightest shade (there's only 3 shades and they're all meant for fair-skinned people, which is also disappointing to see in 2017) was too dark for my skintone and VERY orange. As far as I can tell, the claim of "tone matching" is a complete lie. Never going to buy almay again.
