Most Helpful Positive Review Amazing!
I bought this on a whim last night...one blonde, one light brown. I "have" brown hair with highlights that keep getting blonder and blonder. In reality, I'm 100% gray. I was looking for something to 1) touch up roots, and 2) freshen the color overall since it seems to get washed out after 6-7 weeks. I get professional color once a quarter. After coming home and reading reviews, I almost took this back. But this a.m. decided to give it a try; it's semi-permanent, so not risky. I put it on crown and sides; applied to dry hair. Alternated the blonde and brown, sometimes putting one on top of the other, trying to get some dimension. Waited 10 minutes, combed it through the rest of my hair; waited another 8 or so, then rinsed in the shower. Applied conditioner and dried. My result was amazing, and I feel fortunate. The color is nice, and the gray covered better than when I last tried something similar with permanent gray coverage hair color from the beauty supply store. I'll see what happens after I wash in two days, but unless it all washes out, I'm sold! This was easy, fast and gave great results. I feel sorry for all those for whom it did not work, but for me, I hope they never change this product!! I'd give it 10 stars if I could.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not 1 gray covered
I used this product hoping for the ease of the applicator and gel versus the mixing and brush of other root touch up products. Left it on for 25 minutes (they state 10 but know to leave on longer), rinsed, used a little conditioner (they state to do), rinsed, and not one gray covered. Just wasted precious time. Now I have to use another product in a few hours.
I read the low rated reviews after and noticed Clairol telling reviewers that this product is just for first grays and only about 30% get blended away. Must different than what the product says " This easy-to-use, no-mix gel formula comes ready to apply with its built-in applicator brush. Each application of the reusable formula conceals grays for 10+ washes. It's ammonia-free, peroxide-free, and worry-free hair color. Apply to your temples, roots, and hairline to extend the life of your color in minutes. Simply apply, rinse with water only and dry!
For optimal color results, apply product to freshly shampooed, towel dried, damp hair, so it is free of product build up. This include styling products, dry shampoos & temporary root products."

Didn't work for me

I kept in 10 minutes and rinsed out in shower.... nope... nothing stayed. Back to the other root touch up that DOES work for me. Very frustrating.
Great for General Touch ups & DIY Roots with Balyage

I used this product when my hair lady totally messed up my color. When trying to go more blonde, she left my hair an unfortunate mess/mix of silver and brass. It was just tragic, and I wasn't trying to spend all that money to get my hair done again. I used this product to cover most of the brass and added roots to the hair look to make the look more normal... long story short, thanks to this product my hair is fixed, beautiful and looks like a light grey balayage with beautiful root blend and nearly no brass. I just bought this product for the first time. I have used Clairol Root Touchup for years with good results. I thought I would try this for a change. I left it on for close to 30 minutes and it barely covered my grey hairs. While the application was easy, results were very disappointing.
does not cover grey
Pata from San Diego Calif
It did not even stain my grey hair let alone cover it. I think this is meant for people with no grey hair. It just does not work on grey hair no matter how long you leave it. And it has a strong chemical smell.
I'd give it no stars if possible
Corwile from TN
This did not work at all. None of my grays were covered but my hair feels sticky and it smells like I just colored it. I've never had a product not cover a single gray hair. Save your money.
don't buy it

Love it. Perfect for what I need!

I've been using this for several months in between salon visits for my roots. I like it much better than the permanent because it doesn't damage your hair. It's convenient and covers most of gray and definitely enough to not have that line growing in.
Waste of money!
banjofan from New York
I use the permanent root touch up and am happy with the results so I decided to try the new gel. I thought that it would be more convenient and economical since it was good for more than one use. It did not cover any gray hair and only dyed my scalp which I had to wipe off with a dry towel. Don't waste your money on this product! Clairol should be embarrassed!
Not worth the trouble

This product did Not cover my grays despite leaving it on my hair for 30 minutes.
Igseattle from Washington
So mad I wasted my money on this. It all washed off after washing my hair once. Not one strand dyed.
gigivaru from Arabi, Louisiana
I gave it 2 stars for the easiness of use, but the product itself did not cover my grays. I have used root touch up products for years, decided to try this one, very disappointed. Do not recommend if you have grays in your roots.
Easy enough to apply.

I need this to make it to my next color, and this is easier than the powder. This I need to always have on hand for temporary fixes.
Does not color hair at all!
Maggie Rose from Salt Lake City, UT
It did not dye my hair at all! I've used other Clariol hair dyes and they've worked. But this one didn't even touch up my greys at all. Waste of money don't buy.
Did not cover well
Judy P from Lake Bluff, IL
It is easy to apply and has a nice applicator, and is not messy. However, the length of time to leave on is not long enough to cover the gray.
Budur from Washington
Don't waste your money, don't waste your time. It doesn't cover grey hairs.
The brush itself is very convenient to use.
The manufacturer has to think about how to create more qualified gel and after that this product will be just perfect to obtain. But for now, the only thing I can say is - Failure.
Works ok for 50% of the grays
MonyB from Dallas, TX
It did not cover the gray hairs I wanted, but because it also colors your scalp a bit, it looks like you have a lot more hair. Nice unintended consequence. Doesn't smell, easy to apply. Worth trying at least once.
Does Not Work!! Waste of Money and Time
Mdet74 from Jacksonville FL.
Horrible product. Does not work at all. Zero coverage!! You need to take this off of the shelf because it does not work.

I used this the morning I was leaving for vacation. I thought I'd try this brand because it looked easy to apply. Bottom line, it didn't cover my gray and the tube gets slippery and hard to hold to apply the color. VERY DISAPPOINTED !
Zoeyleigh from Massachusetts
I was so excited when I saw this in the store and could not wait to try it. I love the concept of this product.I used it this morning, very easy to use. It says to leave it on for 10 minutes. My grey is resistant so I left it on for 50 minutes. Rinsed my hair, did not wash it. It did NOT cover my grey hair at all. :-(

This is 2nd time I tried this poduct. I thought maybe I did something wrong 1st time. I'm maybe 40-50% grey. What a waste of money and time. Very disappointed in Clairol, have been loyal a lot of years. Followed instructions to exactly. When finish hardly looked like I did anything.

Claudiamalave19 from Clarksville,TN
I applied this on my 75 years old grandma grey roots, she is only visiting and I was trying to find an easy item for her to apply by herself when I'm not that but this did not work at all !!!!!! AT ALL !!!!!!! Her hair looks exactly the same, very disappointed and rest assure she will never buy this again!!!
Did not work!
KarenL from ca
I bought the dark brown color, fully expecting it to cover my hairline grays and just the part. I applied as directed, leaving it on for the longer time and was so disappointed that it did not cover the grays at all~not even turning them a lighter color of brown. I used it again, thinking that I hadn't applied enough, and I got the same results! It was like I hadn't applied anything. I have used other semi-permanent dyes, and they've worked, so it's not just my hair. The reason I bought this to try in the first place was that there was no mixing, and ease of application. I'm going back to my old standby. So disappointed to have spent the time and money and going out shopping these days with zero results!
didn't cover gray at all

I have used the traditional Nice n Easy root touch up by Clairol for years and love it. I saw this last night and it sounded so easy. I found it actually quite messy and it did not cover one grey hair. Disappointing, but I will continue to use the old root touch up.
