Most Helpful Positive Review Wow this is good!
I was surprised at how well this performed. I ordered the shade Sand for my tan-to-dark skin tone and it was the perfect color match for eye primer (slightly lighter). I first applied it with my finger but then switched to a concealer-blending brush which created a thicker layer of product which I wanted. I used pressed pigments which require a good base, and this was perfect! My eye look held up 8 hours easily and still looked perfect. I would consider it a great dupe for a paint pot, except this is an even better color match for me!
Most Helpful Critical Review It's hard to say
I had hoped (like many of us) that this primer putty would be comparable or even better than a certain three letter company's paint pot. Elf does come through with affordable and oftentimes superior dupes, sometimes. I'm personally in need of color correcting on the eyelids for everyday use, as well as good priming for eyeshadow in one step. The texture of the primer is very dry. You definitely need the warmth of your finger to tap this on. This might be a hit for people with oily lids. It's not very pigmented. It's not creamy. It does seem relatively buildable. I have the colors Cream and Rose, which are very close in color, but slightly different undertones. I need to go from the lashline to the eyebrow just to color correct, with or without eyeshadow. Most concealers crease on the eyes, at least some, and I hoped the combination of color and long-wear-ability would be a winner for this primer so I can just have one step for priming and correcting. I wish it was more pigmented. I wish I could apply it with a brush. I can't say I don't like yet it, but I'm going to keep trying it for a few days and under different circumstances. I'm trying it first on its own, then with liner, and then with shadow. I'll update this review, but I think some of this information would have been good to know before I purchased two.

I have semi-hooded eyes as well as oily eyelids, so I have never found a single primer that lets my eyeshadow last and not crease or go away. This primer is the only one I've found that keeps my look on. I have noticed very minimal creasing, but for me, I am totally impressed and want to buy more. I have the white one right now, and I love it because it makes my shadows pop. It is a little dry, so I can't exactly spread it on my eyelids, but I think that may be what keeps it on my lids. I LOVE this product and I'm so glad I tried it.

I was hoping this could be a dupe for MAC. Far from that. I ordered two colors. One came so dried out I had to throw it away. The other is also dry, but probably the way it's suppose to be. You need to scrape it out. And it's so dry and patchy on the lid. Formula needs some work.
Patchy and dry
Catbri from Seattle
This eyeshadow primer is patchy and dry and feels heavy on the lids. Get their $3 eyeshadow primer it works way better
Katie from VA
For years I have had to apply concealer and primer to my eyelids to even out my pink lids. With this, it is one step to giving me a natural base. I got the rose color and it is a nude shade. I can finally feel comfortable just using this without eyeshadow to cover up my natural tone. I love it!
Use a brush to apply! It makes it so easy!
Witchie from Mccalla
Initially upon using this primer I was really disappointed, it seemed very dry and extremely hard to apply with my finger. I was going to return it but figured I'd give it a shot using a brush.
For reference I used the black ELF eyeshadow C brush and woah it made all the difference.
I was able to apply it to my lids and blend it out without pulling or tugging excessively.
I will say though, this primer is very dry and if your lids are also dry it will be a nightmare. Make sure to use a moisturizer under for best results. I couldn't be happier with how vibrant my eyeshadow look now, and they blend out like a dream with no patchiness.
If you have this and tried applying with your finger with no luck, try a small brush it'll work much better!
Lisa from Indianapolis,IN
It's my first time using it and it held really well! I deff will keep using this in the future!!
Becky from North Little Rick
Love, love this product. It is not expensive and keeps eyeshadow in place all day. It can even be worn by itself.
Meh. Go for Mac's Paint Pot instead.
Victoria from Washington, DC
I used it for eye makeup in place of Mac's paint pot in white since I wasn't near a Mac. It got the job done less than ok-ish. will be returning. Not easily blended, not easily layered, and you can see through it. Kept having to apply apply apply...and apply. It doesn't "pop" or stay on long even though I used primer and stay in place spray at the end of doing makeup. All other makeup stayed in place, but this is one product ya get what you pay for. Skip!
I hate it
Kyanna from Wisconsin
I bought this about 3 months ago and I hate it. It is very hard to the pot and I wouldn't consider it cream or putty. It also still make my eyelids crease, I don't know if it was because of the color I got (cream), or if I just got a bad batch. However, I definitely would not recommend. Elf has and can do better.
No Makeup Eyeshadow
Jess from PA
I have fair skin and got the color rose. It's perfect to use for an everyday no makeup eyeshadow look. Covers discoloration and veins. A little dry when applying but doesn't look cakey. Plan to add this into my makeup routine.
Great for hooded eyes
Lisa G from Louisville, KY
This primer isn't exactly a putty. Its more of a cream, but dry. I have to warm it up on my finger before application. BUT my eyeshadow lasts 14+ hours without moving or creasing and I have very hooded eyes. My hoods nearly cover my entire lid, so that's saying a lot.
Elf from Goodyear
It is very hard! I couldn't get anything out of it. Also very dry. I had to wet my fingers to get anything out!
Takes too much time to use
Lulu star from Stuart fl
This takes way to long for me to apply. The top does get dried out and doesn't blend well.
A little goes a long way
Rachel from DC
I have light skin and the shade rose is perfect. The best way to use this is to warm it up with your finger in the pot and put it on with your fingers. DO NOT use a lot or else it will start to cake up. A little goes a long way. I usually set this with loose powder and my eye shadow stays on all day. This is the best eye primer I've used and the price is great. Sometimes I'll use it by itself as well just to even out my eye lids.
Will try others
Bernie from Wentzville Missouri
I tried a brush, and my finger. Product hard to get out. It is really hard and thick. Don't know how well it works as I only used once.
SO DRY, but does the job...
Nickolette from Philadelphia, PA
I had high hopes for this primer, especially after seeing a YouTube review from Robert Welsh and how much he loved it. I usually use the Mac paint pot in painterly so I bought the lightest shade in this primer. The lid mechanism is definitely defective because it does not seem to close right no matter how many times/ways I try to fasten it. I read others say the same, so it has to be a widespread issue. The formula itself is very drying, I use a brush (just as I do for the Mac primer) and I find that it pulls on my eyelid skin, which can be an issue overtime with how delicate that skin is. The primer does dry down but it tends to emphasize any tiny texture I have on my eyelids (which I really don't have much and it's never a problem with any other eye primers I use). I have tried adding a TINY DROP of face oil to the primer before taking my brush in it and applying (I've tried it with both the pixi rose oil and the farsali rose gold oil) it does help it to apply less drying however, it's still a pain to apply. Overall it's not terrible for the price point. If you can afford Mac's paint pots than I would stick with that! I am excited to order and try the Gerard Cosmetics eyelid primer and the P.Louise one- I heard shipping to the US for that one is expensive though! Hope this review helps someone! :)

Love this it's great, keeps eyeshadow in place all day and can be used as just a subtle eyeshadow
Ksue79a from undisclosed
I bought this because I was intrigued by the different colors and was looking for a good eyeshadow primer. I've tried others and I do have my go to primer. But it doesnt last. At first, I thought it was a bit dry, but decided to try it anyway. Surprisingly, it was easy to apply. It was a little thick and you think you need a lot. But, it goes on smooth with no creasing. Now the big test. Will it last all day? For the most part. I have oily lids and by the end of the day my eyeshadow is pretty much gone. But with this primer it held on pretty well. It was lighter but still there. Im not a makeup touch up person. So if it's gone, it's gone. But this worked well. And with the white, my colors were bright and looked awesome. I am going to try the other colors. Oh and by the way, its easy to remove too. I thought it was going to require lots of remover and harsh rubbing. But it didnt. It came off with a little eye makeup remover and facial cleanser. I would recommend.
Works, but is really dry
Mizz from Toronto
This things really works to keep my eye makeup in place, but is VERY VERY dry, and is also a bit heavy. I have to really warm it up in my hand before applying, and then use a light hand with anything on top.
Works quite well! However...

The product is great, but I can't help but think I must be putting this lid on incorrectly or there's a fault in how this product is made. It doesn't fully close and I find myself having to scrape a dry layer off the top before use sometimes, which wastes quite a lot of product.
not really good
ChunLi from London, ON
when I got this i was very excited to use it, but first impression is that its DRYYYY. I tried different technigs like wetting brush when dipping, or even poring water drops on it hoping for it to dissolve, worked a little but did not carry enough product. However I notice when you use your finger its much better and definitely useful, i mean i dont wanna get my fingers wet so i just stoped using it.

I bought this primer awhile back and I have tried to use it multiple times but it's just so dry and clumpy. It brings out texture on my eyelids that I didn't even know I had and it doesn't do anything to help my eyeshadows. I thought mine had dried out and was bad but after reading other reviews this is just not a good product.
KrystinaHaas from Texas
I just purchased my second pot of this primer. It helps my eye makeup stay on longer, cancels out redness/vains, and can be worn alone on my light skin tone. Very happy with the color and texture. I do have dry eye lids so I always put on an eye cream prior to the primer to avoid dryness. Will continue to repurchase.
Great for covering blemishes
Siobhan96 from Nova Scotia
I purchased this and surprisingly have almost exclusively used it to cover more noticeable blemishes and then build my foundation over top of it, and it covers them incredibly well!

I am a black women. And I bought this thinking it was a great idea. This is like clay just dry nothing else when you smear it with ur finger I turns into the ashy color. Brush doesn't help. My biggest mistake was trusting this product. Don't try this is ur heading to work u will have to remove it. Don't buy this. From an actually person. I like elf but this was a No for me.
