Most Helpful Positive Review New favorite eye primer!
I was a little skeptical before buying it, but it was only $5 so what was the harm in trying it. Best eyeshadow primer I've tried yet! I've used the Mac paint pot (hated that), a bunch of concealers which worked fine, the ABH eyeshadow primer which was one of my favorites, the morphe translucent which was decent. But this elf primer pot is literal gold. It does not crease at all even in between applying it from one eye to the next, because I apply the eyeshadow primer and then the eyeshadow on both eyes, so usually the eye primer is sitting for a little bit and will end up creasing on me at some point, but this one didn't. It has plenty of coverage to cancel out any veins or what not. It is very creamy in the pot, so it was easy to pick up with a brush, but after applying it to the lid and tapping it out it was very tacky. I've used the James Charles x Morphe and the OG Jaclyn Hill x Morphe palettes with the elf primer so far. And I know the James Charles palette tends to be a bit finicky, but I had no issues with blending out the shadows on this primer.
Most Helpful Critical Review Great Nose Primer! Yes, NOSE primer!
I was recommended this eye primer from another oily skinned person; as that's the PURPOSE of eye primer. It acts as a layer between your skin and your makeup, holding back your OILS and keeping your makeup from creasing. I've tried a couple other primers before and always felt that no matter how little or how much I applied, they always made my eyeshadow crease FASTER. I was told that this one was a perfect, cheap, dupe to the MAC painterly paint pots, and while I haven't tried those products before, this one, dupe or not? Is not a good eye primer.
Whether you use a brush, sponge, or your fingers, this stuff just WILL NOT MELT! It's thicker and harder to work with than ice cold CANDLE WAX! I've tried applying it in varying amounts, and with various applicators, and every SINGLE time it creases! However, as a primer for my nose area, which gets CONSIDERABLY oily? This thing is an absolute MIRACLE! It's still really annoying to get out of the pot, and annoying to apply, but my foundation over my nose has NEVER looked so smooth and flawless, let alone stayed that way throughout the ENTIRE DAY!
If you've been looking for a cheap eye primer? Skip this one, please. Find something else. But if the rest of your face is super oily to the point that your regular face primer is having trouble keeping up? This MIGHT actually be a good option for you. But because it is so hard to work with, I'm still only giving this thing 3 stars. Because at the end of the day? It doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

The product is great, but I can't help but think I must be putting this lid on incorrectly or there's a fault in how this product is made. It doesn't fully close and I find myself having to scrape a dry layer off the top before use sometimes, which wastes quite a lot of product.

I bought this primer awhile back and I have tried to use it multiple times but it's just so dry and clumpy. It brings out texture on my eyelids that I didn't even know I had and it doesn't do anything to help my eyeshadows. I thought mine had dried out and was bad but after reading other reviews this is just not a good product.

I am a black women. And I bought this thinking it was a great idea. This is like clay just dry nothing else when you smear it with ur finger I turns into the ashy color. Brush doesn't help. My biggest mistake was trusting this product. Don't try this is ur heading to work u will have to remove it. Don't buy this. From an actually person. I like elf but this was a No for me.
I would buy this again and again.

I have used several different eyeshadow primers but have found this is my go to. I purchased the white. Yes, you do need a brush because it's thick. I will purchase this again and again.
It's good for the price
Running Mascara from Hiker Heights TX
Compared to Mac's Soft Ochre paint pot, it's very close in performance. I find that it covers discoloration, dose prime well, eyeshadow dose last longer. However the formula is on the dryer side. It will tug on the lids with application. I wouldn't use it for a cut crease.
No, I didn't love it.
The Beckster from Lou Ky
The primer is very dry, thus does not go on smoothly on my eye lids. That said, it has not creased and eye shadow stays on. I needed a new primer but did not want to spend $30 and sales person recommended this product. When I used it the first time, I assumed it was old or had dried out. It is not creamy and I have to smooth it several times to make sure it isn't caked up on my lids before I apply shadow. If it wasn't so cheap, I would have returned it. Will not purchase again.
Use a brush!
Smorris from Oregon
I usually blend out my eyeshadow base with my finger just because it's easy and helps warm up the product. This stuff is really dry, and I found when using my finger it went on way too think and chunky. But when I used a concealer brush it went on really thin and smooth. I wish it had a little more coverage but I think it works great if you use a brush!
Definitely worth the money!

A little goes a long way! Definitely worth your money
I love a good dupe from New York
This was extremely dry...like cracked apart when you tried to swatch it dry, I could not get it to work at all at first. Disappointed having tried every means of application possible I put 3 drops of contact solution on top to hopefully add some moisture. That worked wonders! This is now my favorite eye primer and honestly a dupe for the mac paint pots. I gave it 3 stars because you should not have to do any extra steps to make a product work the way it's supposed to, but I would have given it 3.5 if possible because I was eventually able to make it work and I love it now!

the color sand is a really awkward color. (basically orange) And it's hard to blend it
Last minute buy and I'm glad I did
Ems from Orlando, FL
I was waiting in line, and saw this. I've seen it a few times online with good reviews and for the price I thought I would give it a try. Everything about this product is great, the only thing is I don't like the pot that it comes in, that it's not easy to get out to use. I used a brush and it worked pretty good, but not as good as the ones that come with the brush in a tube. I would 100% say to give this item a try.
Like it but it's dry
AlexisinMO from St. Louis
I like using this as a primer but it's way dryer. It's nice that's it's dry unlike concealer or a really wet primer but still hella dry.
It's okay, would buy again bc I'm cheap
Reythegirl from San Jose ca
I apply with my fingers bc using a makeup brush in not as effective and it dries faster with brush than fingers

This product is very dry.
MLM from California
This primer works so amazingly! it stays very tacky and grips my eyeshadow instantly. Lasted all day and made my shadow very vibrant. It is a bit dry when applying with a brush but I've found that if I rub my finger around the jar it helps to warm it up and blend seamlessly. Eye cream helps it even further. Overall I loved it and will purchase all colors.
do not buy
Kiyah from TX
product is very dry and waxy and hard to work with. you can't apply it with a brush, as it will mess them up. it doesn't apply evenly either; it's very patchy and extremely difficult to even out. Removing it is even harder and leaves the eyes feeling waxy and sticky. overall, it was a waste of money and time, and I strongly recommend NOT buying this product.
ItsMe from Florida
I thought this was going to be a dupe for the mac painterly paint pot. Color is near spot on. Unfortunately this doesn't spread as nice on the skin, creases bear immediately. When time to remove it made my lids sensitive like I haven't ever had before. I had very high hopes for this but unfortunately I won't be buying this one again. I love almost ever single elf product I have though.
I was pleasantly surprised by this!

I use this under eye shadow. I fell sleep in makeup and when I woke up, my eye makeup looked the same! It is the best eye shadow primer I've used.
I would buy again
Lisa from Michigan
I really like this eye primer and I would definitely buy again .. I thought why not try it out for only 5 dollars. I've always wanting to try eye primer, but could neve justified spending a lot of money for one .. So instead I would just use a concealers. This primer is very nice holds my eyeshadow all day . I came home from working a 12 hour day .. forgetting that I used a primer look in the mirror and my shadow was still on like the way I put it on that morning.
I would highly recommend this product

I love e.l.f. products! I was introduced to them when I was in my late 40's. ( in my sixties now). Although they have done away with a bunch of my favorite products, they still deliver. I have never had any problems with their products this eye putty included. I wear this as a eyeshadow (I bought the rose color) it gives me just enough blush without looking overdone. I like a natural look and this does it for me. It works well for under eyes and takes away my slightly dark under eye circles. It's a winner for me personally. I love their products and their prices. You don't need to spend thousands of dollars on products, just need to know how to work them. 😉 May be inexpensive, but not cheap.

I had high hopes because ELF has really stepped it up lately and I enjoy most of their products that I've tried. I wanted to love it. You're not "supposed" to use concealer as eye primer but I have successfully been using Revolution Fast Base Concealer as a primer for a year or better, alternating with the super awesome Milani one and wanted to try something different. Should have saved my money and time. It's so dry! Doesn't blend out and doesn't allow the shadows to blend well at all. Doesn't hold on well either. Tried it the first time with the Morphe 35C pallet and after less than an hour, my shadow had creased so bad and my darker outer corner I worked so hard on had faded away to nothing. So I went back to the concealer mentioned above with the exact same shadows and low and behold! They blended so smoothly and stayed there looking fresh for almost 12 hours. Tried it again with a more simple look of just my Physicians Formula bronzer and ColourPop Super Shock shadow with the same results. Mind you I can use the Super Shocks on my totally naked lids and they last all day. I love ELF with my whole heart but this just ain't it. If they reformulate, I will try again but this is a no for me.
Stop buying over priced primer!!

Hack/Tip: Scrape off the top
Cristina from Wichita Kansas
When I first bought it I didnt like it because it was hard to get on a brush or my finger and it didn't blend out it was super dry. I used it again and i thought of scraping off a bit of the top to see if it would be easier to apply and blend, and guess what, it worked!!!
Very dry and hard to apply

I bought this product, hoping it would have a similar consistency to the Elf Poreless Putty Primer for the face. After trying the first one, I returned it because it was dried out and had pulled away from the inside of the container. When I rubbed my finger across it, I didn't get product because it was all dried out. I returned it for a new one, and guess what -- it was exactly the same! So now I'm not sure if the product is made that way, or if I got 2 bad ones in a row. It was unusable due to it being dried out and hard.
