Most Helpful Positive Review New favorite eye primer!
I was a little skeptical before buying it, but it was only $5 so what was the harm in trying it. Best eyeshadow primer I've tried yet! I've used the Mac paint pot (hated that), a bunch of concealers which worked fine, the ABH eyeshadow primer which was one of my favorites, the morphe translucent which was decent. But this elf primer pot is literal gold. It does not crease at all even in between applying it from one eye to the next, because I apply the eyeshadow primer and then the eyeshadow on both eyes, so usually the eye primer is sitting for a little bit and will end up creasing on me at some point, but this one didn't. It has plenty of coverage to cancel out any veins or what not. It is very creamy in the pot, so it was easy to pick up with a brush, but after applying it to the lid and tapping it out it was very tacky. I've used the James Charles x Morphe and the OG Jaclyn Hill x Morphe palettes with the elf primer so far. And I know the James Charles palette tends to be a bit finicky, but I had no issues with blending out the shadows on this primer.
Most Helpful Critical Review Evil.
I'm glad this works for other people but this is the only item of makeup I own that I genuinely hate. I'm pretty pale and I bought Rose thinking it would be a decent shade match to me. I just need an eye primer that is either translucent or blends into the skin around my eyes close enough to be unnoticeable. Rose is way too dark. And you can tell it's there. That's the first problem with this thing.
Second is I have tried to apply it every way I know how, brush, fingers, blending sponge ANYTHING. It doesn't go on evenly, and I can't get it in the inner corner of my eye WHICH IS WHERE MY CREASING IS THE WORST.
If I mess up putting it on for some reason It's incredibly hard to remove it which would make you think that AT LEAST it doesn't crease fast right?
Wrong. I did a wear test. My eyelids are incredibly oily and my right eye in particular is a beast and will eat eyeshadow. It started creasing after 3 hours. By 6 hours the eyeshadow on my right eye was just straight up GONE.
I thought this would be great since I have, use and love the putty poreless primer but MY GOD. Not even close to a similar texture to the face primer. It feels like clay. I am going to find a way to finish it off and then I will nEVER go near one of these again. Atrocious.

This was a disaster. I order the color sand and when I apply it just dry and looks like chalk. Who ever is thinking of buying this let me save u the money and breathe DONT it's a waste it might work for u and might not. Now I know after trying.

Eye shadow looks amazing with this primer

I got shade cream and it's worthless. It's so dry you cannot apply it to your lids without it looking like a crusty patchy mess. It's disgusting and I'm so mad.
Great price but dry eyelids!

I am 20 years old and am just starting to get into makeup. I really wanted to love this product, but it didn't work for me. I purchased the white putty eye primer and the price was great, $5 is not bad. However, it dried out my eyelids with just using it the first time. At first, I thought it was a reaction l, but no, it dried my eyelids. Also, something I did not like was the "putty" feeling. To be honest, I thought it was a little more difficult to apply, since it can't be applied smoothly. I would recommend this product for someone who uses their hands a lot when working with makeup. As with this product you have to do a lot of dabbing on the eyelids since the formula doesn't glide on the lids. What surprised me was how vibrant the eyeshadow color would show when I used the white putty. That's one of the things I really enjoyed, but if you're going for a subtle or natural look I would try a different color putty, like the rose. Overall, I wanted to love it, but it didn't work for me.

Love this product. I've tried multiple eye primers, and this one is fantastic. I've noticed the more liquid primers take too long to dry and dont hold as well, whereas this one is more creamy and imemdiately dries and sits well. No creases in my eyeshadow and wears great all day.
Works well for me

I have been using this eye primer in Rose every day for a few weeks now and really enjoy it. I apply it with a brush onto my eyes. Does not get too sticky and goes on evenly. Eyeshadow goes on well and easily and blend well.
Danielle from Oakdale
I purchased 2 on accident the first one was extremely dry- very painful to put on bc it was so dry
I thought maybe it was just that one so i opened the second one and nope same thing extremely dry hard to blend out
My eyes are all red just from putting it on!
Can't live without it

This product is great for the price and lasts forever. It's a dupe or the Mac paint pot and of course it's not the same quality but you can't expect that for the price. It works amazinggg, changed my eye shadow game forever
Love this product

The white is the worst primer I have ever put on my eyes. I don't get it.. I use the Rose and absolutely love it.. How can elf get the formula so different? The white is DRY.. like desert dry. It shows every bit of texture, which shows up through your shadow. Do not waste your money. I know it's only a few dollars but don't do it!
Roxy from Plant City, FL
This formula is super dry and waxy. I dont mind the waxiness but it needs to be a tad bit more moist. I use a fluffy brush and dont have an issue blending it like I did when I used my fingers. I have to mix cream and white together cause cream is too dark for me as I'm super pale. I have no other complaints it works as an excellent primer. The white shade looks good on it's own for a cut crease.
Not a good product :(
Sydney from Maryland
The formula is so dry and impossible to blend. It crumbles up and is just terrible.
Putty on Repeat
Caramel Queen from Pooler, Ga
This looks so good alone I changed my initial eye look just to feel like a diva in this putty.
However, this stuff is a GREAT base for shadow application.
I would not buy again
Anital from San Jose Ca
Did not work for me. Hard to spread in eyelid due to dry chalky consistency. 1 hr later, my eyeshadow was starting to crease. Cause itchiness on eyelids.
I would recommend this product
Liz from Cleveland,tx
Makes eyeshadow super vibrant and when I tried to wipe the shadow off it took a little bit because of how stuck on the primer it was but didn't mind . Is a bit drying so maybe using a moisturizer or eye cream a little bit before u apply if u have dry eyelids
Chalky, Patchy, Dry
Paola from Caifornia
I bought this eyelid primer after looking for a product in the same vein as the MAC paint pots. Both Elf and Maybelline color tattoos were recommended as great dupes so I figured I'd give this Elf one a shot. It was not a good dupe. The product is hard and dry. It's impossible to apply with a brush or finger. The texture feels like hardened clay with a chalky finish and when I managed to get some on my eyelids and spread it, it crumbled like yoga leggings that have been washed too much. Look elsewhere for a eyelid primer or paint pot dupe, because this ain't it.
Does not blend
Tashina M from CA
This is way to sticky to blend on my lids. It is almost like a dry sticky. I had to put a thick layer on to cover my lids because it wouldn't spread. Shadow looked terrible on top and wouldn't blend over it.
10x better than Mac Paint Pot
yeahokay from Los angeles California
I bought the solid white and the coverage was amazing. it even covered my stray hairs that needed plucking. the best test I have for eye primers is if my eyeshadow hasn't faded by the evening. this primer made all my colors last!
It's very hard not what I expected
Lanae from Spring TX
Maybe mine is dried out but it was very hard. Gonna get another and try again.
Alex from Peekskill
I bought the eye primer in the shade "cream" and what I disliked about it, was the dryness of the primer and how hard it was to blend on my eye. After a little work it was actually pretty nice 😀
Good for color, bad for application
Angel from Atlanta, GA
If you use this, you have to uses your finger and dab it on. You can't wipe it on your lid or it'll be.. bad.
Even with that technique, it's hit or miss, and sometimes things can still be patchy.
Too dry to apply
Dottie from Sacramento
I usually use Elf's eyelid primer that comes in a tube simply to prevent my eyelids from looking oily by the end of the day and have wished it just added a little bit of shadow color and was excited to find these. But, they're too dry to apply and useless (I bought two colors not knowing which I'd like). I wear contacts too and know if I put it on my eyelids with my contacts in, it'll move the lenses and don't use the primer until after my mascara is done and the contacts go it before that, so the only way it would work is if these weren't dry, they need to be moist enough to be apply smoothly. It suggests fingers or brushes but my brushes can't even pick up any of the product. Very disappointing. I'd return them if stores were open but right now, it's a huge hassle.
Really great smooth eye primer!

Love this, good coverage and smooth blending
