Shake well. If you don't, it will feel grainy. I use before I apply my a.m. moisturizer. If I'm I a hurry I mix it in with my moisturizer. I recently went on a trip with a lot of sun and snow. My face didn't burn, but my poor husband's did.. But he didn't apply the spf. I burn easy, so this is two thumbs up for me.

    Great Daily SPF

Comments about Neutrogena Pure & Free Liquid SPF 50:

This is a great mineral based sunscreen. This is nice a nice lightweight white fluid that applies easily to my face, neck and backs of hands. This is the mineral version (in texture/dry time)of the Shiseido city block which is a chemical sunscreen that I love, but can't use around my eyes due to burning. The neutrogena is not cream based so you will need a moisturizer underneath if normal to dry. This plays well with many non silicone moisturizers used underneath; the Cereve PM moisturizer, simple or juice beauty cream, etc. It does not do well with exuvience. It also works well with IT cosmetics CC cream over or Lancôme's Teinte Miracle. As to some users experiencing a gritty texture, I have experienced this twice. Once when I stopped using this spf for another for a few months then tried to go back and the spf was unusable. The other time was just after opening. I shook the bottle 30 times then placed upside down overnight, then shook again the next day and texture was as usual thin fluid no grit. Try this if it happens to you or return to the store for refund. This can be great for both oily and dry skin, just adjust moisturizer accordingly before applying. This is much better than the pure zinc or Neutrogena's other mineral spf, even the one for babies. Good dupe for Clinique's mineral spf and it's spf 50:) I'm very fair so I recommend using under foundation or using custom color drops or cc/B.B. cream as needed to adjust to desired shade.

Comments about Neutrogena Pure & Free Liquid SPF 50:

I use this everyday under my makeup. I use the Neutrogena hydro boost water gel as a morning moisturizer, and mix this sunscreen in with that before I apply it to my face. It makes the sunscreen spread evenly when mixed. I am very fair so I do not get a white cast with this, unless I'm taking a picture (which almost all sunscreens do with a flash). I have super sensitive skin and this is the only sunscreen I've tried that does not break me out. I've been using is for a year now and I will not be without it. It even works amazingly well on lake weekends to keep my face from burning (I use other sunscreen on my body). I can be at the sandbar all day and not burn, I reapply it every 2 hrs though!

      Not a great formula

Comments about Neutrogena Pure & Free Liquid SPF 50:

This is gritty. Even my 12 year old won't use it because the texture isn't smooth. Its watery with some type of granular weirdness. Doesn't absorb well, doesn't apply easily, doesn't play well with makeup, it looks harsh on my 40 year old skin... I'm a big sunblock advocate but this is just a big fat no. Did they even test this before they released it? Ick.

I love this sunscreen. It doesn't irritate my oily sensitive skin or make it oilier. Works great under makeup.

        Gave me a heat rash

Comments about Neutrogena Pure & Free Liquid SPF 50:

I bought this because it didn't have the active ingredients that Nuetrogena's Clear Face sunscreen had, which stung my face. After a couple days of using it, I developed a heat rash which is caused by your pores being clogged and unable to release sweat in hot/humid environments. (I live in Florida) It was so bad that it took over a week to clear up. The heat rash caused my face to have itty bitty bumps allover and larger bumps that turned into itchy welts. Now my face has mild scarring leftover from the rash. Thanks, Nuetrogena.

Photos show the progression of the rash on my cheeks which don't have any sort of cystic acne and were completey clear before this rash.
