Most Helpful Positive Review Absolutely Love!
I have had this product for about 2 months and it is so amazing. It is long lasting and waterproof -- long days, rainy days, Miami days, beach days -- it lasts! You only have to put a little bit on your eyelid and dab it, then apply your eyeshadow. I use the NYX Ultra Pearl Mania (loose shimmer) eyeshadows and the colors POP! I have also used it to do both of my sisters' makeup and they absolutely love it.
Most Helpful Critical Review Irritating & ugly
It made my eyelid itch as soon as I put it on, which has never been a reaction to other makeup, including Urban Decay's primer. Though I didn't get a rash or anything, it never stopped itching for the entire time I wore it. (I did not have time to remove it and start over, so I decided to risk it.) There was also an ugly seam at the edge of the application area despite the fact that the primer had initially appeared well-blended, and this seam was difficult to hide with eye shadow; I had to layer on more than I otherwise would have. The only reason this has two stars instead of one is that my eye shadow was kept in place, better than UD's primer has done, so I guess it technically does its job.

I'm a big fan of NYX products and haven't had many that I didn't have a good experience with, but sadly this one I'm putting on that list. The formula had some sort of adverse reaction to the makeup around my eyes, and made it break down so that my under eyes had the concealer pilling up and flaking away. I did NOT put the primer under my eyes, but I guess through the process of doing my makeup some of it transferred causing the issue. I tried it multiple times, attempting different ways of applying it but was unsuccessful in curbing the problem. And since I do my eyes after the rest of my makeup, I couldn't make it work. If you do your eyes first, it might not be a problem, in which case it definitely gripped the eyeshadow.

I've never had irritation to a primer before, but this made my eyes itch. It was so tacky my eye shadow wouldn't even blend when I put it on, so ended up looking worse than if I hadn't used a primer. I had to scrub my eyes to get the makeup off, so I guess it has staying power? I threw it away.

This primer works great! My eyelids are oily and I need a primer to keep eyeshadow in places, this primer works perfectly for me. It feels good on my skin and removes easily with cleansing oil or makeup remover.

Used this product and ended with a sty on my eye... NEVER had one before... after it healed I tried this product again thinking it was just a coincidence but a week later i ended up with another sty in the opposite eye!!!! Never using this again.. love other NYX products just not this one!!!
I would purchase this product again.

I've been using the eyeshadow primer for quite some time now. It's a great product. Keeps my eyebrow powder on all day. Stays on even after a shower.
Will not purchase again

My kids get pretty oily throughout the day so I need something that is going to shield the oils from coming through and this was not it. It's okay for like an hour and then just starts creasing. I wanted to like it but it just didn't workout for me.
Tested it because I was bored
Lexi from Bettendorf
I never used eyeshadow primer before because I thought it was a scam till I tested it out. I was bored and tested it on one eye and without on the other eye. The color was more vibrant and easier to build up on while the other eye was dull and didn't look as good as my other eye with the primer! Definitely will buy again.
Works great after you learn how to use it
Drea Cat from Humid Alabama
I didn't like it at first because it did not blend eye shadows well, made harsh edges, and patchy. ALTHOUGH once I learned to use it properly, I love it. I usually lay a nude color as a base for blending. I found it best to blend out the edges with my finger to avoid drastic edges. Also IF YOU ARE IN A HURRY, I found that if you tap it out with your finger it will dry a lot faster than using a brush. I only use a brush and letting it dry on its on whenever I want to take my time. For glitter, apply it while wet. I literally dab a small amount on my lid and spread through my eye area, but I do have small-med eyelids.
I will buy again!!!

This does what it says and it's actually transparent!!!!! Super easy to apply, and it's not too sticky. (To those of you who say it is then you're using too much). And it makes my makeup last all day too!!! Would recommend!!

I love the NYX brand and was looking to try an eye primer. I saw this one and decided to try it and I absolutely loved it! My eyeshadow stayed vibrant and did not fade like it used to! I would absolutely recommend it!
I don't think I'll be using this again
Rachel from PA
Once set, this primer does hold onto makeup very well. However, it's difficult to blend my eyeshadow with it on, and then it feels like it pulls at my makeup and takes too long to set. So by the time it sets, my makeup has shifted and looks uneven. Maybe I need to wait longer until I put my eyeshadow on after applying the primer.

I don't wear shadow swimming, but I do wear concealer, but I tried a really light shadow to see if it really works. to my SURPRISE it did. Concealer did not wash away and neither did the eye shadow.
Changed My Entire Life

I have suffered with oily eyelids my entire 20s so far (first world problems). I've always hated eyeshadows and avoided them because my eyelids would literally sweat! This is a game changer! It leaves my eyelids dry, but obviously not too dry and it allows to finally enjoy eyeshadows palettes. Sometimes I just use it alone.
Love it makes my shadow stay on all day

Changed formula no longer works for me :(
Cassidy from OR
I used to LOVE this eyeshadow primer. It was basically a dupe for the NARS eyeshadow primer, but with some tackiness to it and actually a bit better. Mind you, I have super duper oily eyelids. Like so oily my eyeshadows will always crease on me by the end of the day regardless of the eyeshadow primer and regardless if I powder my eyelids. But this one kept them crease free for at least 8 hours on me, which says a lot!
However, when I went to buy a new one awhile back I noticed they changed the packaging, and after trying it for several months, I've noticed my eyeshadow now creases very quickly. Like two hours later and I've already got eyeshadow creasing. Upon further investigation, there has been a change to the ingredients, and I'm sad to say it no longer works like it used to. :( Such a bummer that they would change anything about the formula since it was so good before!
If you have normal to dry eyelids, this may still work great on you, but if you've got very oily lids, I'd say stay away from this one!
As good as urban decay for a lot cheaper
Denny from Tracy, Ca
I've been using urban decay eye shadow primer for about a year. And a friend turned me on to NYX Proof it shadow primer. This stuff is awesome, and I have money in my wallet after buying!
I don't trust any other primer!
Madi from Oregon
I've tried other primers but this one is by far the best! My eyeshadow could stay on for days if I wanted it to. When I don't use a primer my shadow gets creasy and my lids get oily, but this totally eliminates that.

Alrighty, so let's get down to it. I gave it 4 stars because even though I prefer this eye primer to anything else I use, it does have its faults. Let's list the pros & cons.
CONS: When used alone it does tend to be really sticky. If you have hooded eyes it does tend to crease if you don't let it dry properly, or set it properly. It does run out very fast if you do your eyeshadow all the time, and gets very hard to pick up when you're down to the little bit at the bottom.
PROS: when used with a cream primer if finishes off beautifully and you shouldn't feel the need to set it all the time, but I do. It holds your makeup all day through sweat and tears! It dries clear so you can use whatever color primer you want to use with it, won't effect the color at ALL! It's fantastic for just putting eyeliner over it as well if you want your eyeliner to last all day or a little pop of color under your eye or the inner corner. I use this product all the time and would never choose to find a new one! Thank you for making such a great product NYX :)))
Best eyeshadow primer.

Best eyeshadow primer. No creasing or running when sweating.
Been using for years

This keeps your eyeshadow and eyebrows waterproof. I put a good layer all over my eyes. It stays in for days! Through sweat, water, showers, and sleeping. I've used other more experience primers and they just don't compare.
Do not recommend
Bunnilovesmakeup from FL
This product didn't work. The primer was supposed to be waterproof and help keep eye shadow looks longer. It did not keep the eye shadow in place and was not able to with stand up to FL heat and humidity.

Works super great!
At Best Mediocre
Barbie from Portland, OR
Was purchased when funds were limited and this type of item was needed. it worked, i'll admit that. but it's, imo, way too watery and left me needing to use a mini blender sponge to "sop" up the product before I could be comfortable applying eyeshadow. it's mediocre, but worth the price paid. my only suggestion is to opt for any other drug store brand instead, as this is the worst of the lot.
Keeps holding on
MiraMira42 from Philadelphia, PA
I'll admit, I wasn't expecting a lot from this, but it all but eliminates the need for a base shade. And boy, is it strong - when I go to take my makeup off for the day, it's still doing its best to stick. I'm almost tempted to test out some higher-end products to see how they compare, but why waste my money when this works so well?
Kim from At home
I have one watery eye and I've probably tried every eyeshadow primer there is. My last resort was a "drug store" product and I will never go back to $30+ eye primers again!!! I even apply it under my lower lash line for Smokey eyeshadow looks. I have zero negative to say about this product other than do not prime both eyes at once. Apply tap it lightly to make sure entire area is covered with your finger (blend) then apply shadow. Some say setting it is best I've done it both ways and usually don't set it with a neutral color or powder . If you haven't tried this please do!
