Love the smell. Works great. I have wavy to curly thick long hair. My hair air-dries beautifully.
Most Helpful Critical Review Didn't do anything
I always let my hair air dry except on very seldom, special occasions, so I have a basis of what it generally looks like. Used this a few times (bought the travel size because I had my doubts), and it didn't really do anything at all. Just an added step in the shower for the same results I had without using it. Still had to follow this with a leave-in conditioner, which was disappointing, and also the PHD 5 in 1 from Living Proof. I can't recommend this as I'm really not sure what it does - if anything at all. Maybe for people who always blow dry their hair and once and a while don't want to? Nah, not even for them - there are much cheaper products that do the same thing (and don't test on animals).

Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between when I used the in-shower styler versus when I didn't. It left my hair feeling soft (which is way better than some of the beach hair sprays) and smelled good but there wasn't much of a texturized style to it. I tried different ways of lightly rinsing it like other reviewers had said but nothing. For the price, I was disappointed in this product and ended up returning it.

I am not a morning person. I love that I can use this in the shower, then scrunch a little on my way to work, and have beautiful waves.

I have used countless products to tame my frizzy curly hair and nothing has worked like this! I usually have to pair other products like some oils or cream after showering to even attempt to get nice bouncy frizzless curls but when trying a new product I always test it by not using anything else. And this product gave me my curls at its best! For results I used this after my conditioner and let it stay in my hair for about 5 minutes or so, then I wash it out..but not completely from my ends.
Works great once you get the hang of it.

I found this product works best for me when I use A nickel size amount and dilute with water then apply it to my hair concentrating on ends upward. I do not rise it out. This way works great for me. I find applying liberally then rinsing it out a waste of product. I have medium length wavy hair that isn't fine or thick.
Incredible for lazy curly hair

This is my favorite product for my natural curly hair! It's the only thing I'll use now to embrace my natural curls
Did nothing for me

Maybe I wasn't using this right but this really made no difference to my hair. I like other Living Proof products but the only good thing about this one is the smell. I just use it now as in-shower hair perfume so my hair smells good when I get out LOL
Love this stuff! It truly makes for a perfect hair day!❤️

Smooth it through wet hair while still in the shower, voila, no more frizz!
This is my second repurchase

I use this after shampooing my hair. It lessens the amount of product that I use and it has a great scent.
I buy this product over and over.

I love this product! It makes great curls and is so easy to use.
This is my HG hair styler!!
taylo.tonic from Seattle
I am seriously in love with this product!! It's my HG. I have long, fine, wavy/curly hair. The PhD in shower styler literally gives me a perfect hair day EVERY time. I can choose waves or curls based on how much I scrunch my hair as it dries, and it minimizes frizz too! I'm a fan for life.
LOVE this product !

I have very flat hair at my roots , but it frizzes and gets wavy/curly at the end . This product smoothes my hair and gives it some texture . When I use my flat iron, it doesn't feel as dead too.

I can't stop using this, heaven sent for my hair. It does take some getting used to as far as how much to use and how much to rinse out, but once I figured it out it makes my hair styling a breeze. I'm super low maintenance and don't like heat styling my hair. I just wash it and put this in, scrunch it, and it leaves it so healthy and shiny. I love this stuff.

I have super thin hair that's always straggly and somewhat wavy if I let it air dry. But with this, I was able to achieve more defined waves and volume. Once I'm done shampooing and conditioning (I also use it on days I don't wash), I put a generous amount in my hair. I use my wet brush to make sure it's evenly. The tricky part is "lightly rinsing" it. What I usually do is take some water in my hand or just put my head back in the running water very quickly and work the water out. I'll do that about 2 or 3 times where I can still feel the product in my hair. Put my hair in a towel to get some of the extra water off and I will use my hands to scrunch it. While it's air drying, I will continue to scrunch it every once in a while to help with my waves!

I really like this. I think it would be great in the summer, if you don't want to blow dry. I just don't know how much is too much to use.
Love for my fine, wavy hair
Tamara from Michigan
I have hard to manage wavy hair with a mind of its own. I started using this on days where I just wanted to let my hair dry naturally and I love it. I get really pretty, beach waves with no frizz and lots of nice volume. I used this all last summer when I was in Florida for work and even the Florida humidity didn't stand a chance against this. Because my roots do get oily, I focused on my applying from my ears down and patted just a tiny bit above my ears, this works great for me and I highly recommend!

Having curly hair, I've never been able to just wash and go, but this product has made that a reality for me! Totally simplified my routine!
Best leave-in for frizzy hair
Georgiapeach from Atlanta, GA
I LOVE this product!! I have extremely frizzy hair if I let it dry naturally but when I use this at night and sleep with my hair in a bun twisted on top of my head, in the morning I have a flowing head full of beachy, baby soft waves. I just have to spray them with either the Control Spray or Flex Spray, depending on my day and they last all day!!!
Favorite for all seasons!

Comb hair while conditioning in shower, rinse and apply this magic! Towel dry and scrunch. Voila, out the door!
Smells great, holds curls and is lightweight!
Use with extreme caution!!!

Do not use this product around your roots!! According to instructions you use from root to ends- I followed instructions and the crown of my head got severe product buildup(despite shampooing in between uses!) and it WOULD NOT COME OUT. I tried clarifying shampoo, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, etc. nothing worked and it looked awful. I went to the salon and the stylist said she's had other clients with the same issue. Apparently stylist are trained NOT to use this product near roots but normal people who buy this are not told this! And instructions specifically say coat root to tip. She was able to finally get the product out but the experience was awful and I would be very wary of this product!
Excellent, once you figure out how to use it with YOUR hair

After using this product for several months, and comparing it to 2 other "in shower stylers", I find this to be the most effective for my inconsistently wavy/curly hair. I have very little wave on the top and sides of my head but actual coils running from the center down the back. My routine is to wash hair with a co-wash which leaves it detangled and soft (works equally well with regular shampoo and conditioner), and squeeze out as much water as possible. (At this point I turn off the shower. Why pay this much for a product and then immediately rinse it out?!) I put a bit of product in my hands and rub together to emulsify, then I apply from bottom edge of scalp to ends of hair. Repeat the process and apply second emulsified dab to hair on scalp. It does not make my hair feel "rough" like other in shower stylers but I know that I have product in my hair; if I don't feel at least a little product I apply more. Then I flip my hair over, rake fingers through, shake, scrunch, and flip it back, dry myself, and squeeze out any extra water from my hair once more. If I have time, I sparingly apply Living Proof Prime Style Extender around my hairline. My last step is to clip up my bangs for style as they dry. When my hair is dry, the curl is defined and consistent all around the head. My hair is not as soft as other similar products leave it, nor as frizzy as it would be with nothing in it; it is not crunchy and it moves with my movements. Sometimes, if it is muggy or I'm attending an extended event, I hit it with flexible hold hairspray as last minute as possible for added support. I sleep with my hair in a loose scrunchy-held pony high on my head and if I choose not to wash my hair the next day, I spritz and scrunch with water or with AG Hair Curl Trigger Spray. (I tried spritzing with a leave in conditioner and it felt gummy until I washed it out!) I think the stuff is worth some experimentation. Hope this info helps.
Brings out the curl without the drying effects of gel
Smack from Chicago
I have slightly coarse shoulder length hair that's very wavy to curly, not the marketed "Straight to wavy" consumer. There's definitely a learning curve with the "lightly rinse" part. I wash every 3-4 daysAfter wash and condition, I put it on starting away from scalp and working through to ends with fingers or wide tooth comb,(that's the only time I comb) I use very little near scalp. I rinse by putting my head under shower about 2-3 seconds and then scrunch up from bottom to lightly rinse. If I feel a lot of product I add more water-Too much product left in will make it greasy looking. I scrunch or plop with a microfiber towel or Tshirt. I still need a small amount of gel for long term hold. I let my hair air dry, if it looks or feels crunchy I scrunch with microfiber towel or hands, if going to bed I out it in a high pony and scrunch in the morning, my hair hair doesn't dry when braided, twisted etc. So,If necessary I diffuse at my scalp for a few minutes before bed. At 8 months into a year of no straightening to improve the health and curl of my hair, I'm still experimenting to find the perfect styling product(s). This is the only styling product I've repurchased. Greatly reduces humidity frizz, brings out more curl, and leaves my hair soft instead of dry and crunchy like gel alone. I always sleep In high pony(silk pillow case) in the morning I just spritz with water and scrunch the flatter spots, I spend no more than five minutes. It's been awesome for me and my hair.
I literally can not live without this stuff!
Chelsey from Indiana
I can not live without this stuff! It's easy to use, especially for a person who does almost next to nothing to their hair. The trick is to use a descent amount and literally run your head under the shower almost barely to wash some out. It was nice with my long hair, but even better with my short hair.
Horrible products for really curly hair.
Julie from Portland
I have ringlet curls and texture normally. These products made my hair look flat and frizzy. I was dooped by the Living Proof rep that was at Ulta. The only thing going for this product is the amazing fragrance.
Great If Your Hair is Wavy/Curly
Heather from MI
This works REALLY great if you already have some curl/wave in your hair. It just adds a little extra definition and takes away some of the frizz that would be there otherwise. HOWEVER if your hair is straight, I don't think you'll have much luck. (I think that is where most of the negative reviews come from). My hair is naturally wavy, but typically when it air dries the top layer has a less defined wave and it's a lot more frizzy. This worked wonders on creating a somewhat uniform level of wave, while combatting a lot of the frizz. For the first use I wanted to see how it would work without any other styling products and I was pleasantly surprised. In the future I'll probably still add a shine spray to help with the remaining frizz, but the photo below is of me only using this product.
Leave it in!

If you have medium textured wavy hair, try a dime to quarter sized amount as a leave-in styling aide. I find this works best on my hair, and seems to really activate my natural waves without me having to mess with it. One and done, great hair! Love this product for my lazy days!
