Most Helpful Positive Review AMAZING Pastel Dye
So I think a lot of the people who give these a bad review aren't using it right. I used Moonchild over already light-pink hair. If this product was a lame as people claim, my hair wouldn't be a vibrant purple right now. Unlike the full-coverage shades, these tints are pastel. With that said, my hair is a very flattering, more like medium-light purple than a light pastel, which I'm very happy about, it's gorgeous. Here are some tips: 1) You HAVE to have platinum hair to use the tints 2) you HAVE to wash and dry, but not condition, your hair prior. 3) you HAVE to rinse out ALL bleach if you lightened your hair just before applying the dye. 4) you HAVE to rinse it out, rinse ONLY, in cold water after you color 5) you HAVE to leave it in for more than 30 mins. 2 hours is best. 6) you HAVE to wash in cool water to help the color last.
These are normal coloring rules. It's not the product's fault if you don't follow these and end up mad about the results. The full-coverage shades are the same (but can be used on light to medium blonde and even light brown for some shades), but way more vibrant and long lasting. I have used countless colors from Lime Crime and it's the best, longest lasting color I've used.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not a fan.
I want to start by saying I have dyed my hair cool colors for many years now. I used the product as directed, applied and left on for an hour and a half (it said 30 min. for a pastel color).. It is marketed as a "tint", but that is an overstatement. I used the color "Sext" on my bleached blonde balayage leftovers to have a different look than the brown into blonde. I figured the tint would be enough to give me a soft, diluted pink color, without being too bright. When I rinsed my hair and styled it, the color was SLIGHTLY pink in one or two spots and just had this dark blonde/greyish color everywhere else.
That being said, I did not entirely dislike the color that resulted. The darker blonde was better than what I started with. But do not expect this color to show at all unless your hair is literally white when applying the dye. Going to try the Unicorn Hair actual dye next...

I personally have loved this prouct. I've tried Bunny, Sushi, and Cloud and never had issues with any of them. I will say - the bottle says to leave on for like 20 minutes or something.... don't do that. In order to get the results you're hoping for, I'd suggest leaving the color on for between an hour and two hours to really give the tint time to seep into your hair. I've found that the first time it can be blotchy, but I'll usually go over it again the next day and it comes out looking even and bright! Remember though, this is just a tint. It's not meant to stay on a long time. I use it when I'm about to go on a trip or something knowing full well it will come out within a week or two. It's not a semi perm so it's not meant to stay in a long time.

I used sushi and got a nice coral color. I was happy with the application and the outcome. I LOVE the smell and my hair wasn't dry and crispy after. It is beyond me why Ulta doesn't allow photos in reviews. It seems counterproductive.

color didn't hold and what little was there washed out after 2 washes. waste of money.
Horrible. Wouldn't even stick to platinum hair

Used the Color oyster and instead of the beautiful purple grey color it promised, my hair was just heavily toned and even then it's splotchy
You've gotta be bleached, but it works

I am a white lady with dark brown hair that I had highlighted back in February. I think the reason this tint worked so well is because I had bleached highlights (i.e. the hair is not only light in color, but porous). The dye took within an hour and I was left with a lovely pink color that's almost identical to the color of the product itself. I'm super happy with it!

i wanted to like this. i love the full coverage unicorn hair color but this was just not it. i used cloud over my platinum almost white blonde hair (bleached 8 months prior and kept up). the color only showed up in one patch of my hair and wouldn't come out for months. i may try this one more time in another color in case it was user error but idk what i did wrong.

This is amazing. No strong smells, didn't stain my skin, didn't damage my hair and this is a first for me to see a brand fill product to the TOP and not below the brim. I will say not to set your expectations high. After rinsing my hair and drying it, I have to say the color wasn't what I thought. It looked like I had my hair professionally colored and just haven't gotten it touched up. But everyone around me thought it looked great and asked me where I got the product. Definitely can't wait to try more colors!
Be careful about the timing!

I purchased this one in the neon peach color and I should have known better, but still. If you want lighter pastel colors this is not one to keep on for more than 20 minutes! I kept mine in for the usual 35-40 minutes and it's a little darker than intended but still very cute! The smell is also not chemical at all so it's nice to use overall. A little goes a long with this stuff!!

Wow. I'm very surprised by the negative reviews here. I've been searching for a perfect tint to get a dusty mauve look. Sext was it! Yes dude! My hair is so beautiful. I can't stop taking selfies!!!
This is a hair tint!! Not a dye

I love this brand i use it every time i change my hair color. The pay off is amazing. I have tired almost all of the colors.

I gave it one star cause it smells very good. Without that, it's nothing, no color on my hair though my hair was light blonde.
This is a TINT not a DYE & read DIRECTIONS!
B from Detroit & LA
I cannot believe how low the reviews are on this product, I'm putting in my two cents in because majority of people reviewing this don't know what they're buying nor understand that this a TINT and NOT a semi perm dye. there's a difference between the two...
This works absolutely great as a TINT. I am bleach blonde. When I first used the product I purchased Cloud. I did not do it on fresh bleached hair… I just randomly decided one day I wanted a change. I purchased cloud, applied it to semi dirty hair - 1 or 2 day unwashed (directions say to use on clean unconditioned hair) figured it be ok, I didn't use any hair products such as oils, dry shampoo, hair spray etc. and it turned out great.
Honestly at first I thought it was WAY TOO pigmented, and it really was! But I wasn't mad at it. I loved it lol It was like I "dyed" my hair bright periwinkle, and it was beautiful.
I left the product on my hair for 2 hours (w fun colors you have too, I prolly didn't need too that long and prolly why it was so vibrant but I did love the outcome), it's basically conditioner and non damaging.
So I had straight bright purple periwinkle hair for a few days until I washed it w purple shampoo I use on my blonde to keep my hair from becoming brassy. (always use cool water as well, warm - hot water will fade and take any fun color right away) after the wash, my hair still very pigmented for a "tint" but it did gradually turn to a "tint" over a few days. It wasn't as bright and out there (originally that's not what I was going for nor what i was expecting to happen) it was nice soft periwinkle tint that faded over time into a nice lavender tint to my hair.
It did exactly what it was supposed too, TINT MY HAIR.
The product did fade faster at my roots where I apply dry shampoo, so I figure it was from that.
I only wash my hair 1-2x a week w cool water, when I have fun colored hair, and the product lasted a good 4-5 weeks untill the fading wasn't an appealing color and time to re-color.
The second time I colored, I did it the exact same way, it worked exactly the same way.
I kept it going for 5 months until I switched up hair colors.
My suggestion is to really read the directions, and that this is a tint which is supposed to just give your hair a soft subtle hint of color, so don't expect full on bright pigmented crazy colored hair
My go-to pastel pink
Kbaby from Chino CA
I'm writing a review because I'm disappointed with how many people are reviewing this negatively without even using it properly. You cannot use this and expect a pastel pink if your hair isn't bleached to a pale white. If it's your first use, you need to leave it on longer than the directions say (leave on for 4 hours at least.) if you want to dilute the color, put white conditioner in your mixing bowl and then add the pink until desired results. I've tried other pinks and all have been too bright or splotchy where as this dye is perfect every time. Use lime crime unicorn hair shampoo and conditioner in the color pink for upkeep. I've left reviews a while ago for those as well. If you've done your research before trying to go pastel, this is the perfect dye for you.
Absolutely terrible didnt work on very light colored hair

My hair was bleached a very very pale blonde, I used this and absolutely nothing showed up and left my hair looking patchy even though it wasn't before?!?!?!?, it also took very long to wash out, absolutely hated this
Nicole from Bessemer City, NC
I have tried tint and full coverage and the full coverage does last longer then tint but I left both on my hair for 2 hours and with the full coverage it still bled out after a month with every single wash. I am highly disappointed because of all of the good things I was told about it that made me want to try them. My hair is stained no matter what I do. I even tried color remover to see if I could pull the color out to stop the color bleeding and it is still stuck in my hair and will not come out.
Would give 0 stars

Color does not come out like it looks on the box. Even with lightened blonde hair, it didn't take. It actually made my hair darker.
Doesn't show up or stay on

Bought to put on the blonde part of my balayage and couldn't see it at al after the 45 min recommended time. Did it again and left on for a couple hours and it only showed up in one spot, and thatcwas gone after 1 shampoo.

I bought this in the shade Oyster to tint my very light bleached blonde light purple. I left on about an hour as listed in the instructions for more vivid results. MY HAIR IS BLUE-GREEN. Not even close to purple and now it's not going to fade right and I'm going to have to get it color corrected. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Not as expected
Stephanie from Mesa, AZ
the color is very subtle even after leaving on for over an hour and it's not the right color. it looks more like a rose gold than a mauve purple so I don't hate it but it's not what I wanted. smells really good though.
Made my hair darker
Rowdymeemaw from Indianapolis
This did not give me gray, lavender, or a combo of either. It made my light blonde hair BROWN. I do not recommend.
Cloud is good, gargoyle is not
Rachelle from CA
I bought cloud and gargoyle and tested them both on different strands of hair. Cloud is great, exactly what I was looking for , and exactly like packaging. However, I took a star off because gargoyle was a gorgeous dark grey that I wanted at first (when I washed it out). Then a couple days later I washed my hair (with color shampoo; Paul Mitchell) and cloud faded beautifully . Cloud was still there , just a tad lighter. Gargoyle turned dark green however. Very ugly. I'm trying to fix it with pink toner to dial down the green.
POWDER WILL NEVER COME OUT
Mal from Ga
I used this on my bleached hair and the blue never came out. My hair stylist informed me that Blue is the most porous color and will usually not come out of hair. So if you want permanently blue and eventually green hair this is for you LOL!
I would give it negative stars if I could
kbarn323 from Allentown, PA
The stylist at Ulta used this product on my hair when I was going from brown to pastel purple. There were issues with the original color so I came back to get it fixed. I was NOT HAPPY to find out that she used this type of color with how expensive my hair was and it ended up being bleached repeatedly due to some major unevening of the color. She put on this product after making it seem she was mixing color and I didn't even get to see the results because she was crying from how horrible my hair turned out. It was bleached very light blonde and it came out GREEN! Other customers were in shock and I just stayed at the sink to get a different process done on my hair. I didn't even want to see it because I was so upset. Even with all of that I ended up with grey hair and needed to color it myself. I got overtone, colored it myself and LOVE IT!
Follow directions- not for dark hair
Amanda from California
There are a lot of reviews saying that it doesn't deposit color, but it very definitely does. Use on pre- lightened hair (preferably level 10 or higher). Use on shampooed but not conditioned hair. You want it SUPER vibrant? Just leave it on longer. Honestly, mine turned out darker than I thought but I just sort of left it on while baking cupcakes... probably 3-4 hours.
Gorgeous color if directions are followed!

PLEASE READ: The first time I used this I didn't pay close attention to the directions because I've colored my hair so much and figured I knew what I was doing. Big mistake. This color works as a mask. You apply it to clean, UNCONDITIONED hair and leave on for about two hours. So my mistake the first time was applying it to my hair after I'd used conditioner and the result was splotchy and uneven. The next time, I read the instructions more carefully and made sure my hair was washed but not conditioned and it made it a huge difference! I have gorgeous, even color that starts a bit more intense than the pastel I was going for but settles nicely after a couple of washes into a really beautiful pastel. My hair is naturally medium brown so I bleached it first (twice) to achieve a pale base, which is a must to get the true pastel. If you want to have the color of the jar - you will need to start with very pale hair and make sure to leave the mask in for the full two hours.
