Goodness in a bottle
This product is no joke. It's basically a dye but not nearly as damaging(obviously). It's visibly dark and noticeably containing the ability to deliver the desired effects. Be SURE to wear gloves of some sort! I used a hair net after applying so I could continue to finish up my showering duties. I washed my body, shaved, and exfoliated my face while my hair was up in a net with this product for a good 10 minutes. The product only says 5 minutes is needed(which I totally believe would be plenty of time) but I was so excited and really wanted to execute the goodness within and give it A chance to work its magic. Rinsing our the product was not nearly as difficult as I was afraid it may be. I used my removable shower head and rinsed as they would in a salon. The mask did stain my hands but that's my fault for underestimating the power within. It's unreal that I am able to achieve my desired color outcome without having to apply damaging dyes to my hair(which I don't have time to do anyway!). I can literally put this on following my usual shampooing and conditioning(which, those products are awesome as well) treatment, put a hair net, forget about it, and continue with my shaving, exfoliating, body washing, etc. it's a breeze, but like I said PROTECT your hands if you don't want dark residue under your nails lol! It wasn't hair to remove but I could have avoided the stained hands had I respected the warning on the bottle. My mother is already trying to steal these products from me for herself, she can see the results within my hair after only about a week of use. I noticed the results instantly but of course it takes others longer to notice those kinds of things. Not to mention, I gave her no insight into the fact I was using such a product. She freaked out thinking I had dyed my hair, knowing my hate for dye. Thought I finally was so fed up with uneven red tones from years of dye in high school/never being able to FULLY get my true color back. Nope momma! No dye!
All right mask for moisture - not sure about the coloring
So it doesn't really specify whether to use this after the conditioner or right after the shampoo. I just went ahead and used it after shampooing so my hair would be fresh and ready for whatever this mask had in store for me.
Overall I got this to review and I wonder if they meant to send it to someone who colors their hair dark on a regular basis, my hair is naturally soft black and is dark enough on its own. I was expect that this would deeper the back and give it a cool tone. I thought it would look nice for a subtle change - nothing dramatic but satisfying enough for me right? There are some spots in my hair where it goes really light brown (usually at some of the ends) so it figure this would make my hair color even. I was nervous about the color pigment that I've never really been exposed to before; I have never colored my own hair and it says on the bottle this can stain. Additionally, my bottle of this mask arrived damaged so I had that fun to deal with as well when I left it on the side of my shower. I didn't notice any long-term staining on my shower or bath mat but I would definitely hide your white pajamas or towels around this sucker.
I left it on for five minutes, used the Dark Envy conditioner and didn't look at my hair until I rinsed it out and styled it. I can't honestly say I noticed a difference. Like I mentioned, I'm not sure if this line was -made- for me and mostly designated for people that color their hair darker but as far as color balancing goes, this wasn't for me. I will say though, my hair didn't feel dry and my curls were nicely defined and I know bad hair washing can be to blame for when it isn't. So at the very least, I got a good hair day out of this.
Works great I love this product so much it keeps my hair from feeling dry and frizzy and gives my hair his life back. Adds moisture
Turned pieces of my hair green & super messy
This worked okay the first few times and then it started turning random pieces of my hair green! I barely leave it in for 5 minutes and I comb it through so it distributes evenly on each strand. Also made sure I rinsed it out thoroughly. It looks like I purposely went & put green/teal highlights in my hair. Takes a few washes to get that out. Also you MUST use disposable gloves when applying it, or it will stain your hands and fingernails greenish brown for days. Very hard to wash off of skin. Will stain your shower/tub if you don't rinse it out right after
Definitely toned down the red!
I went from bleached blonde to brunette, so of course my stylist had to add red/orange filler which unfortunately stood out a lot! I was nervous to use this because I was afraid of it looking dull or green, but I left it in for about 4 minutes and it took out just enough red! It's now a nice chestnut brown (the mask made it a smidge darker which I like).
This saved me a trip to the salon! 🤩
I mean that. It's been a while since my last salon visit, and my naturally dark hair was highlighted but recently it had started to develop an orangey-red hue from sun & UV exposure, and reminded me of Neapolitan ice cream with all the colors in it. This saved my hair. I was DREADING having to dye it brown again or spending hundreds of dollars on a new blonde service. So I decided to try this.
The bad reviews I read stated that it made the hair much darker & covered more than color corrected, which is what I wanted - my natural icy brown hair back. The Dark Envy mask 100% delivered my desired results. If I can figure out how to add photos, then I will!
To be fair, I did not follow the instructions and just sectioned my dry hair then applied it with a brush as with hair dye (while wearing gloves - this product WILL stain) then clipped it back & let it sit for 15 minutes. I washed it out with Brass Off shampoo, then reapplied the mask to the length of my wet hair and waited five minutes, rinsed then dried my hair.
It is very cool toned, as the product starts out dark green then develops into a deep indigo blue, and some of my previously lighter pieces do have a blue-ish cast to them as a result but I expect it to lessen with a couple washes. This can be a con for some, if you have very light or bright highlights and want to keep them then this is not the product for you - I'd suggest the Brass Off correcting mask instead.
Overall, I am super happy with the results! Will repurchase when my bottle is empty.
I had bleached hair (that was filled)&colored very dark brown.Nothing I did kept color from fading/ looking reddish. I bought this line, and this particular product was key. I'd say this is the one to get for maximum effectiveness, and would work fine without the shampoo/reg conditioner. Definitely curbs the red, keeps color dark.Use this before washing body in shower so the stains have time to wash off hands. No staining on my white bathroom or towels. My hair is very thin, dry/ damaged from the years of bleach, yet easily gets oily near roots bc they have not been dried by the bleach. Bc my hair is oily, dry, fine, damaged, and has normal roots, I pretty much have many hair types at once-this works for them all. Hair is moisturized, soft, not weighed down or greasy. 5 out of 5 stars for this one!
