My hair was a light brown and I was looking for something to light up the color, give some lighter "shiny" for it. Then, I bought the spray and started to use on summer (sunny days, what contributed to the results).
First impressions: well, i applied on towel-dried hair, following the instructions. The smell is HORRIBLE! I sprayed all over it, carefully. Then I blow dried. I never seen such a terrible texture on my hair!!! So, the first impression wasn't good...
The first 2 times I used it, the color had lighten, but I think because of too much sun, it became a little orange... I continued to use. I stopped at the third application, 'cause my hair got really damaged. :( But the color was good!
Now, months after this "sequence" of uses, I got the color I ever wanted! It's worth the using! My hair is sensible because of the heat I use everyday, so damage wasn't a "surprise"....
Well, this product is GREAT. It gives the color you want, 'cause you can control it. But be aware that you'll have to take care a lot of your hair!!! And follow the instructions, it's very important. That's it! You can have a lighter color without using hair dye, but it will get reeeally dry if you don't moisturise carefully, after. :)
PS: I put a photo of "before and after" for you to see the results.
Hi everybody! So like many other people who have used this product, I have watched my natural white blonde hair grow darker through the years into more of a dirty blonde and so I decided to try this spray to lighten it up. My family went on a vacation to Hawaii over spring break and I used it daily while laying out on the beach. In just about 2 weeks my hair was so much lighter and I absolutely loved it. When I came back to school, I received so many compliments on my hair and everybody talked about how good it looked. The spray had helped my hair turn almost platinum and because my hair is long it really stuck out. However I was ignorant to the negative effects of hydrogen peroxide and so I continued to use the spray almost daily over the summer. My hair stayed bright blonde and beachy and I loved it and swore by this product. But after about 5 months of continuous use I noticed little pieces of hair on the top of my head that were much shorter, only about 1 inch long. During school my friend pointed out to me some short pieces of hair on back of my head. Soon the roots on my head became very damaged and frizzy. My hair (only on the top) was very dry and crackly and so I stopped using the product. I now have to use generous amounts of coconut milk, teatree oil and leave-in conditioner to make my hair presentable. The damage done to my hair was probably not all due to the spray seeing as I was also very fond of straightening my hair and not using a lot of conditioning products, but the spray definitely made little pieces of hair fall off from the top which makes it very difficult to pull my hair back into a ponytail (rough for a girl who plays sports). This is not a bad product but people need to be warned to use it with caution. 2 weeks straight of daily use will probably not damage your hair, but continual daily use over long periods of time will. This spray does a great job of lightening hair but don't get too greedy with it, that's what leads to damage!

This product is extremely high quality and the packaging is also really nice. I have been using this for a while now and don't have any issue or complaints. I would highly recommend this product to anyone!

And that's not a good thing. It does not really do much but turn your hair orange.

I was happily surprised by this product. Did exactly what it said it would do. Made my highlighted blonde hair last longer. Easy to use simply apply to CLEAN damp hair a few times per week. I didn't have to go to salon for a few weeks longer than normal.

I'm not too sure how well this product worked just because I was also using the John freida go blonder shampoo & conditioner. My hair did stay lighter with the use of all 3 products

I just got this spray and I have a stupid question. I cannot figure out how to get the sprayer to work! There are no instructions and when I pull the trigger, product seeps out from the cap and drips down my hand. Is there a band I have to remove?

This product is a must in my hair care routine. I am natural blonde but I dye my hair a little lighter with highlights and such about twice a year and i use this after every wash, and i swear on my life it is the only reason behind my roots always growing in blended and natural looking, i never have harsh lines from my roots growing in. It also lightens my highlighted pieces and keeps that icy blonde look i have going all year long. 10/10John Frieda Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray

LOVE IT! I've been using it for many years and my hair got much lighter and blonder. It doesn't damage my hair and makes it look super natural. I can't even count how many times people have asked me what color do I dye my hair and how surprised they were when I told them it's the John Frieda Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray . I've never dyed hair in my life, because of this spray!

I haven't colored my hair in AGES and at age 32 it's now certain- rela blondes do exist! I have olive toned skin, freckles, and green eyes, but my blonde hair is still light and bright. I use the lightening spray 1-2 times a week before blow drying, year round, to pull the dull bassinets from my crown. This is a truly wonderful product. Proced right, lays well, no stains, and the chefs kiss of naturally blonde brass remedies.

I like to use this when the lilacs start to bloom. Gives me an early start for summer and my natural highlights.

I just bought this a used it twice and my hair is drier then ever. My hair feels like it is straw going to snap off. Also I have a lighter dirty blonde hair and wanted it a bit lighter well this stuff made me have strawberry hair my hair is bright orange. I hate the color that it turned. Don't waste your money for lots of tears and hair treatments.

Okay, I have some opinions/ tips on this product. First of all, it does work with repeated use. I have naturally light hair, about a level 7 blonde, so I have to use this about 3x to get the desired level of lightness I want. This product is meant to be gradual, so if you're looking for instant results, use hair dye because this product isn't for you. I found a method for using this that seems to work for me, so I wanted to share... do not use this daily. It's more gentle than bleach, but it's not gentle. You're still lifting your hair, so damage is occurring. I recommend using it once a week. When I need to retouch my roots, I spray this on my dry hair, blow dry for 5 minutes and then leave it on overnight. I wash it out the next morning and use a good hair mask. I repeat this weekly until I get my desired level of blonde. I love it. I hope this helps someone, thanks for reading!

I used this product a couple months ago probably for three or four times. It practically ruined my hair. I am spending a lot of money on mask and oils just to be able to brush my hair after shower.

It definitely lightens but started to make my hair very dry and brittle but also red after a while of using it. So the product works but just not right for me or my hair.

I have naturally dirty blonde hair and i use this in the sun to lighten it up and it looks great! Despite some peoples' reviews i actually didnt have a problem with it drying out my hair. I love it!

I naturally have level 2 or 3 hair and whenever I get my hair bleached, I usually can't go past a level 6 or 7 without melting my hair off, even though my hair is very healthy. I included an "after" picture along with my review to show you the end results. This stuff turned my hair to a beautiful mahogany brown! It's probably about a level 5 or 6 now. This stuff is so much better than sun-in, which has turned my hair red and dark orange about a decade ago. To minimize damage, I recommend only using this stuff two or three times a week until you achieve the lightness that you want. Remember not to use on your roots as often as you do on your lengths since your scalp emits heat, and that means the hair closest to your roots will process faster and longer. You don't want to end up with hot roots! Use it every other time on your roots than you do your lengths. I usually apply this spray over my heat protectant spray, then blow dry on low heat. Twice a week, I use the Redken Brownlights conditioner for 5 minutes to keep my hair from looking too brassy. You can buy this at Ulta too. This stuff is just great and definitely goin to purchase again to maintain the color in my new hair growth.

I used to spend $100's getting my hair highlighted every year. I use this twice a week with a hot tool like my hair straightener (blow dryer is not hot enough as directions state) and I have the coolest, lightest blonde highlights I have ever had! it even covers my greys. My natural color is a dirty blonde, so I am not very dark blonde to begin with. I can't say enough great things about this product. I buy in bulk in case they discontinue it. This is no orange Sun-in.

I did not notice a difference while using this product. I tried this during COVID to try to lighten my roots while waiting for salons to reopen. In all fairness, I have to say this product may not be targeted for that type of usage.

This product does exactly as it says, especially if you use it in conjunction with the shampoo and conditioner. This is drying because of the peroxide, but that's what's lightening your hair. Beware of the dimethicone (goes by other similar names) in the shampoo and conditioner though. This is a formaldehyde releasing agent activated by heat, and over time you may experience thinning hair/hair loss. I use these products only once in awhile and use cleaner products the rest of the time.

I love this product for gradually lightening my hair without completely bleaching it. I wish the bottle was larger because they say you need to use it multiple times to work and I feel like I already need more :(

I use this along with the shampoo and conditioner sometimes to give my hair a nice shine and it adds some luster to my hair for a finished shiny and healthy glow. These products are great to use in the summer to help maintain your beautiful blonde look.

Between this and the classic sun in I prefer the effect of sun in, but this is a close second. Love to use it at the beach in the summer for a few extra sun kissed highlights. Works with a dryer too, but i think the effect from the sun looks more natural. Seems like this has a decent amount of conditioners in it to prevent excess damage to hair. I like it, but given a choice would still choose the competition.

In really like Jon Freida products. This lightener is no exception. Lightens my hair enough so that gray hairs are not as visible.
