Most Helpful Positive Review Smooth, glowing skin!
Long review alert! I had a hard time finding reviews on this product, pertaining to my specific concerns. I hope to help anyone with similar difficulties!
I'm 39 and have very, very oily skin. I don't love foundation because no matter the formulation, and even at my age, my t-zone breaks out from being clogged by my natural oils and the makeup on top— bareminerals included! I have A+++ hygiene habits, don't normally break-out just from being oily, wash my hands before touching my face and keep all of my brushes and applicators pristine, so after more than 2 decades of trying every brand and formulation of foundation I could get my hands on, I know the issue is my oiliness combined with foundation sitting on top of my skin. Because of this, I generally don't bother with makeup on a daily basis. I used to love Nars Radiant Tinted Moisturizer because it acted like skincare but with a tone-evening effect, not like actual makeup and didn't make me break-out; but I stopped wearing it after 5 years because it started to separate on my skin halfway through the day. Not sure if I got more oily, or if something in the formula changed over the years but it just stopped working for me. For a couple of years now, I I typically go bare-faced with some concealer under my eyes, brow powder and lip gloss... and Boscia charcoal blotting papers are a non-negotiable essential.
I should be clear that I've been using glycolic acid since my late teens, a prescription retinoid since my 20's and added hyaluronic acid in my 30's, so I don't have any major texture issues or obvious wrinkles. You can see lines in the corners of my eyes when I smile and a wrinkle across my forehead when I raise my eyebrows, but my skin, overall, looks very smooth when my face is relaxed. I wear foundation for special occasions, only, and always, always, always break-out the next day- without fail- even after removing makeup, double cleansing with my Luna and going through my whole skincare routine; no harsh scrubbing. It's awful and I hate it.
All of that said, I decided to try this foundation for an outdoor bridal shower this past weekend after watching a dozen YouTube tutorials/reviews of both brand formulations. Chose the serum formula over the coverage formula because I wanted my skin to really show through in the sunlight, and just needed something my cream blush and bronzer could adhere to. I got the 1.2N & 1.2YG. The 1.2N might have worked because I do lean more neutral than yellow...but I wouldn't know because it arrived damaged and I didn't try it. Thankfully, I LOVE the 1.2YG color and it's actually not too yellow for me. The gold flecks look obvious in the photo swatch, but they are actually invisible in the bottle and on skin— you just get that glow like you're in candlelight, but in any light! I used a damp beauty blender to apply a very thin layer over darker areas first (under eyes, around nose), then did a second thin layer from the center of my face outward. Applied right on top of bare skin after letting my skincare sink in— no primer under or powder on top at all (has never saved me from having to blot all day anyway!).
I. COULD. NOT. BE. HAPPIER. OR. MORE. IMPRESSED. It just looked like I had perfect, baby smooth, radiant skin. Felt alike I had nothing on at all. I had to blot throughout the day, as usual, but the color didn't oxidize on my face, or transfer to my blotting papers; and my skin just seemed to look better and better as the hours passed. Strangers at the bridal shower commented on how perfect my skin looked all afternoon in the glaring sunlight. The bride-to-be (my much younger cousin) kept telling her friends my age and they didn't believe her. By the time I got home, my blush and bronzer had faded a bit, but my skin looked AMAZING.
Even better, NO BREAKOUTS!!! Not a single one. When it's safe to go out without wearing a mask, I'll be wearing this product every day. I can't believe it's less than $7! If you're on the fence, just buy it. Buy a couple of colors if you're unsure about your match. If it doesn't work for you, it's so inexpensive that you won't feel bad about the purchase. Over the years, I've had terrible misses with high-end brands that cost 10x as much as The Ordinary. There's nothing to lose here, in my opinion, and you might be very pleasantly surprised like I was! I hope this Serum Foundation sticks around forever!
Most Helpful Critical Review Very disappointed
I love the Ordinary skin care product line and was super excited to try their foundation. Boy, was I ever disappointed. I ordered three colors (2.0N, 2.0P, 2.1P) and none of them matched my skin. I had to blend all three try get a shade close to my skin, but who has the time to do that every single day? Not that it mattered because I would NEVER want this product on my skin. It is so emollient I felt like I had a layer of oil on my face. Even after letting it sit for 15 minutes and using a setting spray, it would STILL come right off if I ran my fingertips over my skin. And rather than having a blurring effect, this product was so cakey that it highlighted every pore, every fine line, every crevice. I first applied the foundation with a foundation brush after prepping my skin with a moisturizer and primer. Alternatively, I tried applying it with a blender sponge and then again with my fingers, with no difference in outcome. I couldn't wait to wash it off each time. Ordinary, stick to skin care. This was a total flop for me.

Very natural finish and easy to blend

Great for light coverage, buildable. Teen daughter picked out and likes it. She is a hard skin match to find right shade and this had many options to try in in store. Great price point too.
Didn't mind it

I bought this product in a slightly wrong shade but fixed it with the ordinary concealer which I also bought at the same time I didn't mind this product even though it is slightly watery even after shaking it so just be careful with that besides that I think it works well and is fine for the price
Turned to powder and cakey on my skin
Kara M from San Antonio, TX
I wanted to love this because I love all of The Ordinary products I've used and continue to buy, but this foundation was terrible on my skin. Within minutes it turned powdery and cakey. It was blotchy and broke apart on my skin. I tried twice and both times it had the same result. Since it's supposed to be a serum, I expected a dewy type finish, but it turned powdery and dry within minutes. The color match was spot on, but the finish left my skin looking terrible and feeling very dry. I don't know if my bottle was a bad batch or what, but it just did not like my skin at all.
Perfect natural foundation

This foundation is great if you like a light-medium buildable foundation. It doesn't look cakey and keeps my skin looking like skin. However it doesn't dry down or set, I definitely recommend a light dusting of powder to help it from sliding off!
I loveee it!!

This serum foundation is super lightweight, feels like I have nothing on. It covers any redness I have and evens out my skin tone. I am so happy I found this bc I can't wear regular foundation on a daily basis. I literally feel like I have nothing on my face and I am so happy with my purchase. I got color 3.0Y and it matched my skin perfectly
The no foundation, foundation
bay from georgia
this foundation is amazing! At first I thought it was so watery but that is the serum part of the foundation. It doesn't take much to cover your face. The foundation does oxidize to your skin so go a shade lighter. It is very good for the days you want to go lighter and not wear as much makeup.

For the price it's worth to try. True to shade for me. I need Mask Zit coverage. It's rather thin but with a powder to set, it is fine. Try it.

Great foundation. Sits wonderfully. light-medium coverage. A pore filling primer is a must with this if you have large pores. Doesn't feel like I'm wearing foundation when I'm wearing it. Doesn't oxidize either. I'm very pale and the lightest shade works for me.
Doesn't provide coverage
Julie from Wyckoff, nj
Doesn't actually provide any coverage. The formula basically slides off your skin and leaves you looking blotchy
ava from Bolingbrook, Illinois
this foundation is natural and glowy, perfect for "no makeup" days.
For your no makeup days

I love this foundation serum. super lightweight and doesn't dry my skin out. I use this on the days I don't want to wear a full face of makeup. I would say this is more of a sheer coverage but still makes my skin look luminous and it feels like I'm wearing nothing on my skin.

I have very sensitive acne prone skin and this is my go to! The coverage is perfect, it manages to cover up any redness I have. It's so hydrating and doesn't cause me to have any breakouts either! Seriously love this foundation
Highly pigmented, perfect for layering over serums & SPF
SpunkyJ from San Antonio
2.1 Y is a great color for me in the summer months when I am tanned. I'm filipina with warm medium skin tone, and I tan easily. For the winter, and since i am using a sking brightener I will definitely need to go lighter.
I use a number of serums, plus spf 50. Usually foundations are too thick, this one has a nice thin consistency with great color...so I only use a small amount and spreads wonderfully. If I wait too long after my serums, and my serums start to pill....I just apply a few burst of face mist before applying the foundation. The finish is very natural looking, semi matte.
great foundation, but beware oxidation
maddi from georgia
hey y'all!! i really do love this foundation. it is light coverage, so it helps cover up those little things on my face i wanna hide. remember this is a serum foundation, so it has the consistency of a thin serum. almost like water. but nonetheless it is still pretty good. however, this foundation does oxidize and it gets deeper than your actual shade. you may want to go a shade lighter just in case. but overall, this is a really nice foundation for it to be coming from a completely skincare-based brand!!
Love this and here's why…

I use this as my go to foundation, it replaced my IT product. Finally got the right shade match with first selection, online even! It goes well with the TO primer. All my other foundations are in the skin care graveyard. Love this affordable product.
love this alot!

great foundation if you don't like wearing it!!
Totally worth it

Super natural and easily blends to the skin. It's totally buildable without leaving the face cakey. I notice my foundation has usually shifted by the end of the day but I'm typically fine while partying
Kay from Los Angeles
My new favorite. It is weightless and gives such a nice glow. Better than my more expensive foundations and cheap enough you can buy a bunch to mix and get your perfect color.
Best natural coverage EVER!
Jen890 from US
I bought two different shades one for the winter and one for the summer and can I just say this has amazing coverage! This gives a natural look and it blends well. A little goes a lot! I definitely recommend this if you're looking for a natural medium-full coverage foundation and for a great price!
kay from Irvine
I have dry skin and I read so many good reviews for this but wow for me this was bad. It got peely and grabbed texture and dryness so much. Horrible mess. I would not even wear it outside. Immediate removal.
Will be buying this again!
LnJ1205 from Ulta
Blends into the skin very nicely, I really liked how this made my skin look. Coverage is light-medium but it is buildable. The only reason I would agree this is a light coverage foundation is by how it doesn't cover dark spots or blemishes very well, but again it's builable.
AMAZING. Better than expensive foundations!
CMakeup from Hailey, ID
This foundation is better than $60 foundation. It blends seamlessly and isn't heavy at all. The coverage is medium, and helps with discoloration. LOOOVE this. Buy it NOW! Price does NOT equal quality with The Ordinary!
This is my favorite daily light wear foundation!
sideofsarcasm from Oklahoma City
Truly, light enough that I wear pretty much every day. It balances out without washing me out so all you need is light liner and a little mascara for a solid day face. It is the chef's kiss Hollywood handshake best foundation.
Liv from California
I blend it together with the coverage foundation. It's perfect for me!
