Most Helpful Positive Review So good I bought three! I absolutely love this curling iron. I've been using the 1" for about four months, just added the 1 1/4", and gave one to my niece (who also loves it). The irons heat in an instant, have a very long cord that swivels, and grip the hair very well. I have shoulder length hair that's basically straight. The 1 1/4" iron makes large, loose "curls" that blend together and look like a lot of body, not like defined curls. They 1" makes more defined curls that start as large ringlets that I finger-comb into looser curls. I started with the 1" because I was concerned the larger iron would be too big for my hair length and the curls would fall out since my hair usually doesn't hold a curl. But with Frederic Fekkai styling products and this curling iron, my hair holds the curl all day. This iron is very efficient (cutting down on styling time) because the grip is so good and it gets hot enough that every use is effective. So no do-overs. A word of CAUTION: this iron has the potential to get DANGEROUSLY HOT. The heat settings go up to 10. I keep it at 3 1/2 (medium), which is very hot. When I gave this iron to my 16-year-old niece, I advised her to start at 3 and increase the heat if necessary.
Most Helpful Critical Review I expected more I originally purchased this product in 2014. I had decided to upgrade and pay a bit more money. I wanted something better than the Conair I had for 2 years that had finally stopped working. I looked around and the staff at Ulta recommended Hot Tools. I loved how it curled, how quicky it heated up, and how easy it was to use. I was happy I spent the extra money. Then after three months of use it just suddenly stopped working. It would heat up all. I had thrown out the receipt. I went back to Ulta they were able to give me partial credit for a new one. I thought ok, it's just a fluke. So I bought the same 2" barrel hot tool curling iron. Again, I loved it! This time I kept the box (just in case). Now, here we are almost one year later but, not quite one year yet, the clamp stops working. Not even 1 year!! Of course, I had moved from MI to SC then from an Apt into a house... I no longer have the box or the receipt. So I'm out of luck. I had my conair curling iron for 2 years and paid half the price. This one I had to replace twice within a year and a half. I'm disappointed in the product. I've attached a picture of the problem. (The ring should stay in the center so it rolls. I would fix it occasionally but, occasionally turned into every other curl.)

Perfect for the perfect curl
Just OK 3

Sadly your grip can turn off the iron completely, and when you notice that your hair isn't curling, you realize that your grip also turned the temp all the way down. Constant checking to make sure it's on, or the temp hasn't changed. Annoying. It does work when it's on!
Good curling iron 5

I have only had this curling iron for a few weeks, but so far it is working great. Very easy to use and creates beautiful curls. It does not have an automatic shut-off feature which is a downside. I have long, thinner hair and this curling iron has not been damaging. I just keep the heat setting lower and my curls will hold for a full day.
Doesn't work after 1 year of occasional use 1
BEACHROBIN from Texas
Unfortunately after about a year of occasional use this expensive piece of junk doest work any more. Have 1 1/4 " barrel and it stopped working all together. No light no heat. Tried on multiple outlets. Will never buy this brand again. Had Inexpensive Conairs last wayyyyyy longer than this garbage. Sick that I paid this much!!!!
Not good 1

I don't know how this has so many great reviews. Used it for the first time and even on the highest setting my hair would not curl or hold a curl with this. Will be returning.
works amazingly. if your curls aren't staying, thats on you 5

Works amazingly. I went to beauty school and worked at a salon. First, you need to use a heat protectant if you want any integrity left in your hair follicles. Second, hair masks do wonders to keep your hair healthy after all that blow drying and styling.
Moreover, I see some people saying it doesn't work. First of all, curls don't hold in some peoples hair. Thats on you. Another reason why is that if your hair is so fried beyond belief and you need the hottest setting to curl it, then your hair is already very damaged. Its best not to go above 200 degrees if you have thin hair, and you can get away with 200-300 for thick hair, but its still not ideal. If you regularly are unable to creat a curl and are using the highest setting on this, then yes your hair will be fried and curls with most irons won't take to it because your hair follicle is literally dried, fried, shattered, and destroyed.
Now back to the iron, its amazing. It works perfectly every single time. Its wonderful for 60-90s hairstyles. When using a curling iron, let it preheat, and then when you're going to curl a strand, choose a piece that isn't too thick each time. Skim over the strand once to preheat the strand, then go back in again and curl that same strand. It will stay longer that way and you won't be frying your hair to a crisp. Beauty hurts but it doesn't have to be burnt and crispy.

I love this curling iron. The 1 1/4 barrel is the perfect size for my med-long hair. It curls quickly, and the curls last forever. (Also highly recommend L'Anza Dramatic F/X to boost volume and staying power.). Would give 5 stars if it had auto-shutoff.
I would buy this again 5

I use this tool after shampooing to shape and fluff up my shoulder length hair. Also good for touch ups in between or as needed for special evenings.
Works as a curling iron but snags my hair 2
fliesty from Reno
It holds curls well if you put on the hottest setting. The twisting nob thing that adjusts the temperature keeps moving while I'm curling my hair which is annoying. The metal clip and stand always snags my hair and pulls some off. Otherwise it works as expected. I've used mine for 2 years and moving on to a T3
Best curls of my life! 5

I've never owned a curling iron that curled my hair, and kept it in, as much as this one. So glad I decided to buy it!

I was skeptical from other reviews, but I was blown away! I absolutely love this curling iron! I am glad I read to keep the heat low and try first. I keep mine low and it works great! Just buy it!
It's a great product but the Clamp will stick, annual buy. 3
Susanne from Cleveland, OH
Great for fine layered hair. The clamp will stick not closing after time and will lose heat within 1 year normally. I have to buy one annually unfortunately. one year warranty
Not worth it 1

Haven't had it for more than a couple months, will not get hot enough to curl, even on the highest setting! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I will only use Hot Tools curling irons. They're pretty affordable for a professional brand (and go on sale quite often), the extension cord is nice and long for when you need to multitask, they heat up very fast (and stay hot), and of course give you beautiful curls that will last. These are my favorite.
Great curling iron 5

I purchased another very expensive curling iron that only held my curl for 20 min. This curling iron works great. Heats quickly easy to use and hold style. Highly recommend.
Best irons for straight, curl resistant hair. 5
Pepper from California
I've had this 1.25" size for about 5 years and love it, Never had an issue at all in over 5 years. Recently the clamp has started to stick a little and gets stuck open and the barrel is discolored so I'm here to buy a new one. It heats quickly and makes perfect big curls that last most of the day. It gets HOT. I've burned my neck several times accidentally with just a quick tap…. And then had to go a week explaining the "hickey" on my neck. So be careful. It's not a complaint though at all. I need a hot iron to make curls stay in my stock straight hair. These are the best! If you have curl resistant hair this is the perfect iron for you!

Loved it until it died… 2
CV from Colorado
Loved this curling iron and the Length because I have really long hair.. I barely had it for a year and it died on me… my last one I had for almost 5 years and I still have the tiny barrel one for 7 years now. Not sure what's going on with them now.
Works good, but hurts my hair 3
Sarah Belle from St. Cloud, MN
The product does the job. I just got my hair cut and now my hair is mid back length. It is thicker, and has a natural wave. If I want the perfect curl, I do need to take smaller pieces, but even when I do that, it doesn't glide through the curler like my ceramic 1.5" curler. It also rips my hair out a lot because it seems to get caught at the bottom of the curler. When I take smaller pieces, it's still kind of hard to pull through the curler. I plan on trying a ceramic 1" to see if that helps.
I would buy this item for a friend/family member 5
