Life-changing (and really didn't think it would be)

My hair type: Fine mousy-brown with some blonde highlights at the end (balayage). My hair is usually very oily and I get a lot of sebum build-up as well. This means my scalp often feels like I have a layer of gunk on my head even though I tirelessly try to wash all the shampoo out. My hair usually... feels limp and lifeless (but gave up buying 'volume' hair products years ago) with very greasy roots and dry ends. Dry shampoo and a decent leave-in hair serum were essential - although I'd tried to cut down on dry shampoo as the build-up on my scalp wasn't worth it in favour of just washing my hair every day instead. I have tried to give up washing my hair every day in the past. I tried 'low shampoo' by Elvive which helped with the dryness at the ends but my hair was just so greasy and with so much build-up still that after a few months of trying to not wash it for a day or two at a time and having lots of terrible hair days where I felt disgusting and low mood - I accepted that I just needed to wash my hair every day - that it's what my hair type required. I also have very sensitive skin so I try to use shampoos without silicone or any harmful chemicals. I've been meaning to try New Wash for a while but was constantly put off the price and the thought that it would take ages for my hair to adjust (meaning lots of greasy hair days) if it worked at all. I had become resigned to the fact that my hair was just rubbish and wouldn't benefit from anything! During the start of the covid-19 lockdown however I heard someone was using the opportunity to stop washing their hair. I knew I couldn't just stop washing my hair altogether - tried that - it was awful - but seen as I'm saving on my commuting costs atm (and fortunately still have a job) and WFH I decided now was the time to try New Wash. I prepared myself for what would probably be a horribly icky experience of greasy hair days. After buying new wash I had a pang of panic over how much I'd spent on this product which I thought probably wouldn't work as all the rave reviews were probably just influencers. So hard to find normal people reviewing things honestly these days! As you will see however I have given new wash 5 stars (based on the product not the price!) because I've only been using New Wash for a week and it's honestly been life-changing (I've been talking about my hair a lot - which is reflected in this review - I don't usually do wordy reviews). I should add that I bought New wash the massage brush that goes with it as well as a bore bristle wooden hairbrush. Once I discovered a tangle teaser hairbrush years ago I never went back but recently I became worried as a lot of my hair seemed to be falling out and I read that a plastic brush does not distribute the oils to your hair ends (which can increase breakage / hair loss) whereas a boar brush does and it adds volume. I wish I'd known this years ago! The New Wash massage brush is also essential I'd say as I bought one of these in the past (different brand) but it was too hard. It was painful to use and I noticed no benefit anyway so I stopped using it within a week. The New Wash one feels great however and really helps distribute the product massage the scalp and wash out the product. After the first wash my hair felt amazing - which I was not expecting. I thought it might take weeks or months before I would really benefit from it. But my hair and scalp felt clean and I had the volume at the roots - which I didn't think was possible for my hair type. My hair also feels smooth strong and has shine. I still use the tangle teaser to gently remove notes from wet hair when the product is in my hair and the boar brush certainly adds to the overall look of my hair and hair health. My hair is naturally very straight which I used to hate but now I'm embracing it because it no longer looks limp. Even the colour looks brighter. I literally couldn't/ can't believe it. I was planning to keep washing my hair every day with New Wash but the following morning (after wash 1) my scalp felt so squeaky clean still I didn't have the urge to - although it did feel rather greasy towards the afternoon - but I'm WFH so no matter. I'm still washing my hair most days but no longer every day - which for me is incredible and I'm only a week in. I actually like washing my hair so the goal for me was to see a difference in my hair day-to-day and not to feel like I HAVE to wash it everyday. Now I can't stop running my fingers through my hair. My boyfriend has commented on how great my hair looks and I'm now sharing the product with him as he hates shampoo. The response my hair and scalp have had to this product actually makes me feel quite annoyed at the fact that we've all been putting detergent and chemicals onto our hair which actually ruins our hair and makes us need to spend more money on other hair and beauty products to fix problems and to feel better about ourselves. The only downside however is the price. It is steep. I would love to try the other products such as the hair blam the powder (is it less likely to leave build-up than traditional dry shampoo's?) and the volume spray but realistically it's out of the question. And tbf my hair doesn't feel like it needs those other products now anyway but it would be nice to try them. I still enjoy putting a balm on the ends of my hair for example. The ingredients for New Wash do look pretty good which I guess justifies a premium price but £44 is a lot for most people - and I'm someone who has a half-decent salary. It would be nice if there was a much cheaper introductory price a lower price for low-income people or a slightly lower price tag overall or some sort of more manageable membership scheme. Some samples of the other products would also be good so you could determine which one you might want to invest in. However based on the product itself I have to give 5-stars as it really has made me so happy and there seems to be no other product on the market (having tried low shampoo already) that offers what New Wash does. I just wish more people could try it due to being priced out.
