Great hair clay product! I have used for years (at least 8 years) as I never had any issues including the "flaking". It can keep your hair healthy if you wash your hair with right shampoo. The best shampoo to wash out the clay is Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree. Or American Crew Peppermint (discontinued). Most Tea Tree shampoo should be able to wash it out OK. This product is great if you have very thick and short hair. Medium long is OK as long you use little bit of clay but not too much. Make sure hair is dry to use it. I like how I do not have to blow dry to use it. None of the other American Crew hair holding product works for my thick hair.
When combing my hair to the desired shape, the product falls apart and leaves white flakes in my hair that resemble dandruff; LOTS OF WHITE FLAKES. The clay is also very difficult to remove. I deep shampooed three times in the shower and my hair still has a waxy clay-like consistency. I could accept the difficult removal of the product if it didn't also flake in my hair. Both cons make American Crew's Molding Clay unusable in my mind. I'll try the Fiber before abandoning this expensive brand entirely.

I bought this for my husband and he loves it. He says it works great for styling his hair. He's tried a lot of different products and finally has one he really likes.

Much like American Crew's Fiber, this product is high hold and made for short hair (about 1-3 inches in length). It's one of my favorite products to use after haircuts when my hair is short. Molding Clay differs from the Fiber because it has a shine. It will give something closer to a "gel/wet" look, but without hardening and the product remains malleable so you can restyle throughout the day (hence a "greasy" feel as opposed to the "sticky" feel of the Fiber). If you have hair that's longer than about 3 inches, the product will likely feel too greasy (just as Fiber feels too sticky in longer hair). You gotta know your styling products - they're not made for a one-fits-all length/style. I've never had an issue washing it out. All American Crew products I've tried are water-based and wash out easily.

Recommended by sales person. It was horrible.
Love Ulta, but not this product. from Panama City Beach Fl
Ulta in Pier Park recently stopped carrying my husbands favorite redkin working wax so this was the product recommended. He definitely isn't thrilled with the American crew molding clay. The texture and hold is no where near as good as the redken product. Not to mention it is insanely hard to get this product off your hands after using it.

Heard that American Crew was going to discontinue this product. Hope it's not true as it is the best for my short style.

i used the product when my hair was dry and damp from showering. i would take a scoop of it, work it in my hand, and work it into my hair. i think there is another product out there that best suits me. Just trying some products out.

purchased this for my 17 year old son after he got a new haircut and his barber recommended this product. He seems very happy with it so far. A little goes a long way, so I am hoping it lasts a while.

I've used this a number of different ways, wet or dry hair, it doesn't matter what you do if you have thick hair this won't work. I was hoping that using a clay would give my thick hair the hold I need, but no yet again I'm disappointed with American Crew products. This left my hair greasy and with no hold whatsoever. Do not waste your money.

I have a health issue that has me useing a lot of heavy steroids. My hair has a lot of damage because of this. This product helps to control a lot of the frizz. Makes my hair feel thicker too. Is not heavy and non greasy.
