Most Helpful Positive Review Matte, Buildable Coverage I love matte, long lasting coverage, but I also don't like feeling like I have a concrete mask on my lips. I also really like being able to use my lip products to build my desired level of coverage depending on my daily tasks. Burt's Bees Matte Stick in 475 Liquid Honey has a perfect blend of lightweight, blendable coverage, with a high level of pigmentation and not much transferability. I love that the ingredients are of 100% natural origin with mineral rich color. Not everyday I need a bold lip color, but I do like a product that I know takes care of my lips as well as the environment. This product does it all from the office to date night, just add another layer or 2 depending on what you're doing that day and it has you covered. I absolutely recommend this unique lip color to anyone who likes a flexible lip color that you can keep in your purse for every and any occasion.
Most Helpful Critical Review "Dry" coverage I was more worried that the color, "Rhubarb Rapids" would be too "pink" for my age and skin type. The color is a pretty mauve-ish matte, perfect for summer, perfect for my skin tone (Light), and perfect for 50 something. I disliked the dry coverage, however. I almost had to scrub my lips to get full coverage. I wish there had been more moisture in the product to go on more smoothly.

I love and have all the shades Ulta sells. But on Burts Bees online they have more shades, so I wish Ulta sold all the shades. The matte lipsticks are instense enough and the staying power is great. Plus they are hydrating enough without leaving your lips dry. I also use a bit of the burts bees chapsticks before applying and they still stay matte. Reapplying is normal-just after eating of a few hours, not too often. I wish Ulta sold more if not all Burts Bees products. There are only a few here that every other store sells as well. Burts Bees website has so many other products for the whole family, I wish it all sold here too. Plus, ulta is always late with new Burts Bees products compared to other stores, wish they stocked sooner.
Best Ever lipstick 5

Luv this lipstick. Never bleeds or smears. Can put it on without a mirror.
Lovely colors but...... 1

Lovely colors but the smell and texture
1 lipstick is hard as a rock
2 smells like a crayon
3 only works with lip balm
Love 4
Teffy from California, CA
This lipstick is tricky but in a good way. It is dry and it does have a certain smell to it but nothing terrible. I actually like that it has a dry texture because it allows for the color to really stay on. I like to apply the Beeswax Lip Balm before applying this Matte Stick and it is the PERFECT DUO/COMBO. I completely understand the other reviews about this product being too dry but I enjoy the formula. The colors are also very beautiful and very natural which allows for the matte texture to look natural as well. Other matte lipsticks are just too loud and that is not the case with this Matte Stick.
Surprisingly dreadful 1
LunaSol from California
Really shocked at how horrible this product looks, feels, tastes, and even smells... The scent is almost rancid (maybe I received an old product?) and it's so dry, it's nearly impossible to apply. The only way I've been able to use it at all is to first apply lip balm to my lips, then try to add the Matte Stick over it. It still feels quite dry and slightly sticky so not a product I'll use again.
it was dry 1
CrisM818 from California
I purchased this about a year ago, when I opened it, the lipstick was hard and dry, as time went on, the lipstick became discolored and only got harder. It was never moisturizing. I love Burt's Bees, I really wanted it to work, but this product was disappointing. I ended up throwing it away.
Fantastic 5

I can never wear matte lipsticks because I have extremely dry lips. I bought the Buttery Blush color at the store, and I am so in love. The color is subtle and pretty, and I've asked my boyfriend to pick me up more shades for Christmas. I actually get excited to wear this and my boyfriend says he thinks it's really pretty on me, and he doesn't mind kissing me with this on because it isn't sticky. I wouldn't change a thing!
dry but very beautiful 4
ah from ahhhh
liquid honey is the shade i bought
i definitely notice that it's a bit anti-moisturizing, but i use it every day nonetheless because it's just so beautiful and long wearing
Nice concept but poor execution 1
Guest from New England
The concept of this product is great- a sheer, buildable matte lip product- the execution left a lot to be desired. I just got mine yesterday but it smelled like rancid oil. The product itself was a little hard to get payoff but it was pretty once it was visible. I think this could have been a hit but the formula is not there and it seemed like it was already spoiled when I got it. I love the matte lip crayon but this was disappointing
Beautiful color but horrible formula 2
Roselina from New York, new york
My lipstick came with some sort of white streaks almost like it had dryer out. It was almost impossible to swatch it and dragged on my lips as i tried to apply it. It's a shame bc it's the perfect color that i wanted.
Smelled off and was grainy 1
CCCS from NY
I bought the liquid honey. Upon opening, the smell was off, like it has a rancid scent as though an ingredient had spoiled. Texture was grainy and applying literally pulled my lip skin. I don't know if maybe I got an old one or one that had been exposed to heat, but it was unusable any I'm disappointed.
Is this a crayon? 2
Coriboy76 from AZ
Color is pretty, but smells strong of a crayon and isn't much different applying. Very dry and hard to apply. Smell is terrible, but eventually goes away. Also very patchy, even with balm. Not a fan. I'll stick with tinted lip balm.
Plum! 5
Anna23 from undisclosed
Just received mine today in Puddle of Plum. I have to admit I was worried based on the bad reviews, but this color was hard to resist. I armed myself with a lip brush and some lip balm but have to say I had no trouble applying this. I did add some balm on top, just in the center of my lips to get the texture I was after. If you are having trouble with patchiness, which I was not with this shade, I would suggest a balm on top. I have so far not had any creeping into my upper lip lines and didn't need the lip brush - I found the shape of the stick easy to use to line the upper lip. I love this color so much!
Great product despite what some might say! 5
MujerMarquez from los angeles, ca
I love this! It's like a more pigmented lip balm but not sticky or wet. Like a sheer lipstick you can build up!
Too sticky, not smooth 1
Tosha from Ashburn, VA
I love the color, but id doesn't glide on at all, feels sticky. Is it possible the one I purchased yesterday was old?
These are fantastic. Please don't change a thing! 5

I absolutely love these matte sticks. They have a "natural" smell because they don't have an added scent smell. They give the lip a lovely matte color that lasts and is pretty even as it fades. I only wish that Burts Bees would add more brown tones for Olive or Brown skin tones. Shades of coffee would be beautiful. In fact, more true brown lip products would be great in general.
awful smell 1

i love Burt bees products but the smell of this lip stich is horrible like the crayon
convinced folks don't know how to use this... 5
lexz430 from New York, NY
It's the perfect dupe for Gen G. Simple waxy, matte lip product. When you get it new, I suggest wearing it over lip balm first just to warm up the product. After which you should be good to go. It's a sheer, matte formula, not drying or moisturizing, but if you layer with balm it will lock it in place. Don't apply this over chapped lips and then be annoyed your lips are dry...its not a hydrating product. It is simply the perfect, wax-based matte-formula. Please keep making this.
Disappointed 2
Lulu19293949 from Merrick, NY
I just purchased your Matte Stick in #425 Buttery Blush. Your site claims it is creamy. I couldn't disagree more. I found it extremely dry and it did not glide on my lips at all. I love the color, but not the feel.
Dry 1
Cassie from Texas
So dry it was crumbly and difficult to apply
Don't like them at all 1
Greyhoundadoptee from Java Center, NY
I just bought two in buttery blush and liquid honey because I loved the colors, but am so disappointed in these. It's very hard to apply, very much like using a dry crayon on my lips, and it smells "off". It smells like an old lipstick that's been left forgotten in a drawer for years. I don't like the lid design either. I wasn't paying attention to the slant on the product and the lid, and because I didn't have them lined up properly, the tube of the lipstick got bent and smashed when I put the cap back on. I've never been disappointed in any Burt's Bees products, but these were a total waste of money :(
Poor coverage and bad smell 1
Gracie214 from undisclosed
I have been a fan of Burt's Bees products and I really liked their matte crayon, but the matte sticks I bought, not so much. Trying put the lipstick on is like trying to put crayon on your lips. The color just does not go on or stay on. I tried applying over and over and over and it didn't help. In addition, like some other reviews said, it smells bad. Kind of like it's old or something. I bought two and it was the same for both. I'm so disappointed because I wanted to love it
Bad smell 1
KITTY 1963 from Pensacola, FL
I love all the products Burt makes except the Matte stick. The color is nice but the smell is like old crayons. I bought 2 tubes at different locations and the both have the terrible smell and taste. Yuck!
Crayon-Like 1
Mer from Alabama
I love Burt's Bees. I have tried just about every product there is and I've been happy with them. This is the first lipstick of any brand ever that I have tried once and immediately tossed into the trash. It felt like I was rubbing a crayon on my lips. Hardly any color showed up, so I swatched it on my hand to see if maybe warming it up a little would help. It crumbled. 😑
Well saturated color 4
DWilkin from San Gabriel, CA
At first I'm hesitate to make the purchase because based on the sheen lipstick I've tried from burt's, the color is not saturated. However, I'm so glad that I gave this matte stick a try! It's pigmented, nourishing, and not like other matte lipsticks that leaves your lips drier and leave cracks on your lips. Plus you can't beat the price point. Give it a try, you might like it too!
