Most Helpful Positive Review Okay, this is pretty good! So the instructions say to massage into dry skin & either wipe away OR rinse with water. This is a product that definitely works best when it's rinsed off. It's really no different from how a cleansing oil or balm works (like Neutrogena light cleansing oil, Clinique take the day off or Physician's Formula perfect matcha 3in1 cleansing balm). All of those are applied to dry skin, massaged in & rinsed off & they work great at getting even stubborn waterproof mascara off. So I'm not sure why the instructions would say to wipe the product off because without rinsing the product off w/water, it doesn't work well in my opinion. Unless you intend to use a regular cleanser afterwards. But I happen to like all the products mentioned, including this one because they remove ALL of the makeup & I wear waterproof eyeliner & mascara every day. I may use a regular cleanser afterwards but that's only if I'm removing more makeup than usual or if I'm getting ready to use a mask. But in most cases, for everyday double cleansing isn't necessary, this one product is enough. My skin doesn't feel stripped or super dry afterwards either (the neutrogena light cleansing oil can leave my skin feeling stripped afterwards).
Most Helpful Critical Review OWWW!!! First and foremost: it BURNS my eyes. Neutrogena's sunscreens irritate my eyes (especially since I wear contacts) but now their melting cleanser that I was using in hopes of breaking down the sunscreen in a double cleanse routine BURNED my eyes. I want any facial cleanser I use to be able to break down makeup, sunscreen, waterproof mascara - and many K- & J-Beauty products do that with no harm to me. As usual, when the West tried to replicate this concept, they fail and fail hard. Not only is the formula thinner than most makeup "melts", the second I got it near my eyes, I couldn't open them, the burn was so awful. It was different than what happens when I get their sunscreen in my eyes. That hurts, but I can usually keep my eyes open. I was blindly reaching on my counter top for a pump dispenser. Ended washing my face with hand soap but it still didn't stop the stinging. I had to take out my contacts and not wear them for the rest of the day. I was able to calm the burn with a saline eye bath, Vaseline to wipe away any more irritant, and then eye drops. I don't understand how this is allowed to remain on the market.

Just okay- I use it to remove eye makeup since neutrogena discontinued their eye makeup remover lotion. It gets the job done eventually but with more effort and more mess.

Didn't take my make up off AT ALL! Going back to the Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser!
My New Holy Grail!! 5
Bunney4 from Los Angeles
I have very sensitive skin and for years I used Clinique's Comforting Cream Cleanser. It was the only thing I could use. Then several years ago they discontinued it and I've been searching for a replacement but hadn't found anything that came close until now. This is even better!! It feels like a fluffy emollient cloud on my face AND completely takes off all of my makeup including mascara without burning my eyes. I've already started to stockpile and hoard bottles of this for fear it too will be discontinued. It's my new Holy Grail!!
Doesn't work 1
Hannah from Reno, NV
Wow, what a waste of money! I've tried this product a total of 3 times since buying it and not once has it removed my makeup. It also advertises as a cleanser for waterproof mascara, but I don't suggest putting it anywhere near your eyes. I guess it smells good, that's the only good thing I can say about it.
Does. Not. Remove. Makeup! 3
Diane Marie from Pennsylvania
I like this cleanser; it feels nice and makes my skin feel soft. However, if I don't remove my makeup (especially eye makeup) before I use it, I have splotches of makeup left all over my face. They definitely should have called it something else, because it doesn't even come close to "melting makeup." I plan to keep it and use as my morning cleanser. I will have to find another cleanser to remove my makeup.
Never hated something so much 1

It's burned my face so bad my face was red for three days. I have never experienced such mad irritation. So after going through that, it didn't even take any makeup off. This product sucks and shouldn't be on the market.
Ineffective 1
Margaret from Fort Worth
First, I would not qualify this as a "jelly" by a long shot. It is a thicker lotion, more akin to a cold cream. It requires a lot of work to even loosen makeup, and it does not break it down or emulsify with water like a cleansing balm or oil. It literally only gets anything because it's adding something wet to the face and then wiping it off. If that's the type of makeup removal you're looking for you're better off with a makeup eraser. And if your eyes aren't irritated by the product itself, they will be from the rubbing to try to remove the product so you can actually wash your face. Almost any oil from your kitchen would be gentler and more effective than this.
Ouch 2

This stuff burns your eyes so bad… the tears from the burning do a better job at removing makeup than the actual product… not worth trying in my opinion
Awful product! 3
Lori from Minnesota
This does not take off mascara, even mascara that is not waterproof. It burns the eyes. Never again, Neutrogena.
STAY AWAY 1

It burned my skin so bad my skin was red for three days. It also burned my eyes. Please stay away. There are better options!

If you have a sensitive eye area, this will burn and leaves residue behind after use.
Esthetician Disapproved 1
Fran from New Jersey
I'm a licensed esthetician and I decided to try this. I cannot even begin to describe in just how many ways this product let me down:
1. Initial application burns? Anywhere I had
any breakouts
2. Didn't remove my mascara, just moved it under my eyes
3. BURNED my eyes so I'm not sure why it's advertised that it works for mascara because I couldn't open my right eye for a solid 3 minutes
4. Left my skin feeling tight and dehydrated and I am a COMBO/OILY skinned person.
Ya trust the reviews 1

Literally have to scrub at your face to get the makeup off.
Still end up looking like a raccoon when I get out of the shower.
It's absolutely terrible.
Totally Ineffective 1
KellyJ from NorCal
Terrible! It's a totally ineffective product that does not remove any make up, let alone "melt" it off…I didn't want to waste it, so I used it to shave my legs.
Not effective 1
BlushCrush from Virginia
This product does not work to break down makeup. I find I still have to use a makeup remover wash cloth to go over my face to remove my makeup. Even then, I still have to use micellar water or a makeup removing wipe to get the last traces of makeup. Then I can actually cleanse my face. This means I have to triple cleanse with this product. Also, it makes my skin burn. Save your time and money and go for another product.
Great for sensitive eyes 5
Pink from America
I don't know what everyone else in the reviews are talking about because this removes all my makeup, even the three layers of mascara (not waterproof) beautifully and leaves my skin so clean. I have tried other makeup melters before but they all turn into oils and irritate my eyes to the point of stinging and having to stop use. I am so happy I found this product so that I can double cleanse. I highly recommend!
Sucks 1
AllTheReviews from Delaware
This stuff sucks. It barely removed anything, stung and left my skin dry. Would not recommend to anyone.
Unfortunately it's a failed product 1
Magda from PA
I wouldn't recommend this product. I like Neutrogena but this product literally does NOTHING. It doesn't melt any type of makeup. I think the company should review the quality of this balm as it damages its good name.
doesn't take the makeup off 3

I don't wear water proof makeup or water resistant makeup. this product just seemed to move my makeup around on my face. it didn't cleanse? it's disappointing because I usually love their products
SUCH A WASTE!! 1
Angel from Detroit
I thought maybe it was user error the first time I used it and somehow didn't remove a majority of my make up even after following up with a different cleanser TWICE, but I've tried any and every way of using this cleanser. It somehow makes my skin absorb my makeup even deeper so that I have to follow up with a different cleanser AND micellar water to get my skin clean… save your time, money, and other products and do not make this purchase!!!
I don't like this. 2
MrsJPari from 94535
This is a no for me.
It burns my eyes first and foremost. I don't care for the consistency much either. It's so watery and absorbs so much into the skin I feel like after rubbing it around my face it almost disappears and I'm just rubbing my skin with nothing. I don't think the makeup removing capability is good either. It doesn't irritate my skin or break it out so for that I have it an extra star.
Try something else.
Does not remove makeup 1
Kennady from Georgia
Sure it got a good bit of makeup off, but I took a cotton pad with micellar water and wiped my face. The cotton pad was full of foundation and mascara. I washed my face twice with this stuff. But I will be returning it.
Don't buy it 1
Julia from New York
I used this a few times and it doesn't take off my makeup really.

I love the scent and the eye catching bottle. However it didn't do a good job removing magnetic eyeliner. I had to use a makeup remover that's oil based to remove mascara and magnetic liner than go in with this. Afterwards I used the neutragena milky wash and that kept my face from drying out.
