How To Use

Step 1. Hair should be dry and it's best if hair is unwashed.

Step 2. Section your hair and apply the lightening mixture with a gloved hand or brush. (TIPS: saturate the hair and cover it when you finish, to keep the Lightener from drying out. When it dries, it stops working. Protect your skin from irritation by applying shea butter, coconut oil or thick hair conditioner to your hairline and over the ears.)

Step 3. Let your hair process for no more than 50 minutes, until you achieve the desired tone. Check consistently (every 5-10 minutes) to evaluate the color lift.

Step 4. After you achieve the desired result, rinse and shampoo your hair thoroughly with warm water until you are sure all of the product is removed. Do NOT condition the hair, as your Semi-Permanent Dye will act like your conditioner when you apply.

Step 5. Wait at least 24 hours before any further lightening.

Step 6. Before coloring with GDY Semi-Permanent Dye, make sure hair is totally dry. When it is, you're ready for color!

Q
Is this safe to use on eyebrows? I just bleached my brows and love it. I want to buy a product I can get multiple uses out of without giving myself chemical burns.
Asked by AlliK
Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand Engage
Thanks for asking! While our products are formulated to be gentle and nourishing, we cannot recommend GDY color or lightening products for eyebrows or eyelashes, as we do not test for these areas. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
How many boxes would someone with long, thick hair need?
Asked by sara
Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand Engage
This depends on whether you are doing a small section or your entire head. If you’re just doing a small section, 1-2 Lightening Kits should be enough. An entire head could require between 2-5 Lightening Kits. If your hair is mid-back and thick, we recommend 5 Lightening Kits. Just remember, it’s always better to be safe than sorry and have extra on hand just in case. We suggest mixing one bottle and one packet at a time, that way if you don’t need the others you can save them for your next lightening session. Was this answer helpful to you
Q
I have mostly grey hair that is dyed dark brown. Is this product safe to lighten my hair a few shades so I can re-dye it a lighter shade of brown?
Asked by Too Dark
Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand Engage
Thank you for reaching out. Depending on the type of dye that was used, you can use a lightening product to lift pre-dyed hair. If a metallic dye or henna was used, we do not recommend applying any lightener. It can be difficult to remove metallic and henna dyes, and may react poorly with other hair color products and lighteners.  If it was a regular dye, rather box or professional, it is safe to apply a lightener over top of. We recommend you check consistently (every 5-10 minutes) to evaluate the color lift, and leave it on for no more than 30-minutes .If your roots are natural, or undyed, apply to mids and ends first, and then to your roots.  Was this answer helpful to you
Q
Is this product safe enough for on scalp application if you have somewhat sensitive skin?
Asked by Kevin B
Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand Engage
Our Lightening Kit contains a 25 Volume Creme Developer so that your hair is left in good condition while offering just the right amount of lift to achieve lighter results. While this bleach is less harsh, we always recommend doing a patch test by using the following method: Choose a small area of skin roughly the size of a penny for the test. We recommend the wrist or inner elbow due to the skins texture in these areas. Wash the test area with water and soap and dab dry with a clean towel. Place a thin coating of the mixed lightener on the area. Leave on test area for about 30-minutes Examine the test area for any signs of irritation. If there is a negative reaction, then the product should not be used by that person under any circumstances. Was this answer helpful to you

Yeeted my mistaken low expectations out of the universe!

I'll be upfront. I do not have any high expectations, for any lightening products available to non-professionals (like myself). They're all about the same tier, as far as I remember at least. However, it HAS been a WHILE since I ever took bleach to my own hair with my own hands, as I normally leave ...

I had high hopes

so I have used good dye young color before and it was nice. but this fried my hair and destroyed my ends. I made sure everything was fully saturates but the lighted areas still came out super patchy

Best lightener I have EVER used!!!

Only have to leave this on for between 20-25 minutes for my hair to lighten to a very light blonde color! With other lighteners it tends to take around 45 minutes! I love that even though it is a lightener, it doesnt make my hair feel like straw and i have far less breakage with this one compared to others! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I haven't bleached my hair in ages, I wanted to do something besides a typical bleach box kit from a drug store and happened to stumble upon this! I couldn't believe how well it lifted, I will preface by saying I have a buzzcut, so it was very even. I did leave it on for about twenty minutes, and it wasn't overly brassy afterwards, it did have a very slight yellow tint, but my lighting is also fairly poor. Easily the blest lightening kit I've ever used!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

I'm so impressed with how well this worked on lightening my naturally black hair WITHOUT damaging it. My hair still feels sooo healthy and it gave me the perfect base for my new shade. If ur on the fence i say go for it!!

Now I Get All The Hype…

I started using a cream lightener years ago and havent looked back. Then I tried this stuff! I had used their color before, but only when my hair had been pre-lightened. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! It was extremely effective on everything! And I mean EVERYTHING. It lightened it all extremely well with just a single application without any brassy tones at the root or muted, pastel leftovers where the blue and green had been. I'll be a repeat customer for sure.
