I read the reviews before purchasing this product and was a little afraid to purchase it. Extremely glad I did!! I saw many people saying that the light/medium did nothing for their glow...I think they may have purchased the wrong lotion for their skin tone. I have very fair skin, almost translucent, you can quite literally see all my veins. I have been using St. Tropez medium in shower gradual tanner every 2 days for 2 weeks and I got a fantastic glow and overall even coverage. I then purchased the light/medium lotion and decided to pair it up with the shower product. 2 words; PURE. PERFECTION. I was not expecting the result I got based on the reviews I had. As for the smell people are talking about, I did not experience that what-so-ever. The smell is very sweet and has a subtle tan lotion smell (to be expected, it is tan lotion after all) but after its dry your skin has no smell and it leaves you SOOOOO soft!
Here is what I do for my routine: after I shower off all the soap from my body I take a hair tie and put my hair up so its off my back and neck (pro tip: keep the conditioner in for extra softness). I very lightly pat myself so I'm damp, dont dry yourself completely. I start with the in shower medium/dark in shower tanner on my legs and work my way up to my chest. then I do my buttocks, back (including my neck) and arms. I do the tops of my feet, the tops of my hands and face last because I dont want those areas to be as dark. allow to set for 3 to 5 minutes and then rinse my hair and tanner off. I squeeze my hair and put it back up then pat dry myself. Don't rub dry otherwise you could get an uneven tan. Once I'm dry I apply the lotion the exact same way as I did the in shower tanner. After its dry to the touch I get dressed and carry on. within 5 hours I was noticeably darker and my skin had a healthy and hearty glow.
I highly recommend this product if you want a natural perfectly glowing tan. it works wonders.
Most Helpful Critical Review Pretty Good
I use this with the St Tropez in shower gradual tanner to give my skin an extra boost of tan, I absolutely love the in shower tanner as everything is even and fades evenly, this can at times fade unevenly or look a little streaky in places, but that might be down to me not applying it evenly I am not too sure. But, it definitely gives you a perfect golden glow tan and the little streaks I do have are not noticeable to the naked eye. I probably use this more frequently then I should but it doesn't have a bad odor and leaves my skin feeling smooth and great.

Not worth the money you pay for it. I have better results from another self tanner that is a fraction of the cost
Such a giant waste of money

I literally have tried every single self tanner in the world and decided I would give this a try. What a joke !! It's super duper thick so you use ALOT to cover your body!! It only seems develop properly where it shouldn't like elbows around the knees lol feet you get the picture . It is a streaky mess and after 3 applications barely any color. I mean unless you consider the zebra stripes of inconsistent color.

I wanted to try a decent tan lotion so this was recommended by an Ulta employee. I like the texture and it gives good color, but after it dries it flakes off my legs. I wouldn't buy it again because instead of leaving my legs feeling hydrated, it leaves them feeling crusty and flaky. Nope.

My post winter legs needed some help, I picked this up to get some color. Overall, it blended well and I liked the glow it gave. It was a little orange on my knees at times but that went away after exfoliating in the shower. Never had a problem with staining either. As some others said it does have a strong smell. I'm pretty sensitive to fragrance and this one didn't bother me for whatever reason.

I love this product; it has a nice smell and gives me (very pale) a nice buildable glow. Just make sure your skin is totally and completely dry before applying AND apply evenly; can streak!
It Curdles but the rest is good
Melby from Bismarck ND
It applies evenly with gloves low odor pleasant fragrance somewhat, but the major setback is that it curdles badly even after l exfoliate. Tan looks very natural l just wouldn't repurchase.

I chose a gradual tanner to prevent streaking and an unnatural look. I followed the directions precisely and found my legs were "tanned" with a marbled finish. But my arms and torso were very natural looking. Will try again, but I'm not optimistic that this is the product for me.
I would never buy this again! Terrible smell!

I used it on my lower legs and hour or so before going to bed. I had to get up at 3 in the morning to wash it off...it smelled so bad I couldn't sleep! Thank goodness I didn't put it on my arms too...the smell diminishes with washing, but doesn't go away completely. Today I'll do another shower with a scrub, and change the sheets. I know all self tanners develop a smell...but this was worse than any other I've tried, I can't imagine using it every day to develop a tan.
Medium/Dark goes a long way on fair skin

I have fair skin and use tanning beds about twice a week. Was looking for a product to darken my color without having to use tanning beds more frequently.
Appearance: This was great. Even coverage, and very minimal orange hue. This developed significantly over 24 hours.
Smell: All self tanners have *that* unique, unpleasant smell--this one was the weakest I experienced.
Prep: I also purchased St. Tropez Prep & Maintain Tan Enhancing Polish, which I used before applying this gradual tanner. As is standard for most self tanners, moisturize your hands, feet, knees and elbows before applying. I missed the inside of my wrists and you can see where the product caked up and developed, but not terrible.

i'm an avid "mousse" tanner and wanted to try something new. this ain't it. 1. it's splotchy (i know how to apply tanner, i've had lots of practice) so i'm super bummed out. mousse really dries out my skin so i was really excited to try this lotion. 2. it smells awful. if any product claims not to have a tanner smell they're lying. it'll always be there but masked with a nasty perfume smell. such as this one... disappointed and won't buy again :( only positive: the color is nice.
I would never buy this product again.

Had a terrible experience with this self tanner. It is orange and streaks.
I would buy this self tanner again
DJ from Florida
Most self tanners that I've used leave a heavy smell, and a more orange looking tan. This one does not.

This lotion left me streaky and orange AND I got the worst rash from it all over my body!! it left my skin so so irritated. I've tried tanning lotions before and never had a reaction like this.
Not for me!

As pricey as this product/brand is, I thought would be the ideal/perfect gradual tanning lotion, but Jergens is half+ less expensive and does a much better job.
Lotion that flakes right off?
Kik from Arizona
This stuff is a disaster! I rubbed it all over thinking it was so buttery smooth then minutes later all of the product started flaking right off as it dried! Crazy. I didn't even give it a chance to dry because it's just coming right off in chunks, so will the color
Great product/Great results

This is my go-to for self-tanning lotions
Jen from Nashville
I love this self tanner- the color is so natural and the formula is gentle enough for my insanely sensitive skin. I always get compliments on the smell too, which is a nice change from the normal self- tanner smell. That smell does happen but only after the product has been on awhile.

If you are having doubt about the product I am here to tell you that it WORKS. At first I was skeptical and opted to not apply it to the tops of my feet and that was a huge MISTAKE. My photo is evidently shows that the product works as describe. I saw results on the second day. I have been applying the lotion daily for the last three days (apply as often as you like to achieve the desired result). I think this is a better version of getting an instant tan than reaching for another self bronzer that could leave you orange.
Love the tanning lotion!

It is a great product. Worth the cost!
Easy to use, and it works fast!
Krista from Cedar Rapids, IA
After exfoliating, I use this before bed, and even after 2 uses, I notice a difference. I feel that this is a safer and healthier way to tan. The lotion does not leave noticeably bad lines and such. I do use a tanning mit or a glove and rub in circular motions! I wipe off excess off of the under part of my hands with a wipe. I definitely recommend this tanning lotion!
Love this product

I was pleasantly surprised with ease of use. Not as dark as the mousse version, but this brand beats all the others I've tried hands down.
Jergens results for double the price
Lindsay from Florida
This was on sale so decided to give it a go. I'm pretty fair skinned and live in Florida so usually don't have the patience to sit out and develop a natural tan. The first time I put it on it smelled very nice, but eventually gave way to that weird self-tanner smell. On second application I didn't notice it though. However, it is very streaky and orange once it develops. Becomes less noticeable on day 2 or 3 but plan accordingly if you want to look even and natural. I would rather save my money and use the Jergen's natural glow.
Natural - no orange
