Most Helpful Positive Review Fun Gadget I had never heard of the Freestyle Ionic Ceramic Styler before trying it out so I had my reservations initially. First observation: this product heats up and heats up FAST! You need to really watch it so you don't burn your hands like I did the first few times I tried to curly my hair. My hair is not quite shoulder length so I figured this product would easily work for me. Note: how you use the InStyler determines your tightness of curl as well as volume. If you start at your roots and hold it there for about 10 seconds and release, you get some nice lift. I was looking to test that and wavy curls, since that is what I would use this product for. What I learned is set it to the highest heat setting since I have thick straight hair, and to get wavy curls I started about 2-3 inches from my scalp, wound it semi tightly around the barrel and corkscrewed it loosely after. I held the InStyler in each curl about 10 seconds to ensure I got curl. I could have held it longer to get a tighter curl but I didn't want to do that for purposes of this experiment. In a very short time I had what I wanted: wavy curls. I wasn't attempting to get a glamour hairstyle but to test the product to see if it would respond as I expected and it did. I've tried similar products recently in my quest for curly hair and they were not as easy to use as this one. If you have longer hair I'm not sure how well this would work on you, I've tried similar items previously when I had long hair and it was a hassle. But if your hair is around shoulder length this will be an easy curling product for you, the ceramic part does not hold onto your hair in spite of the spikes. I definitely recommend it but as I said it gets very hot so beware!
Most Helpful Critical Review Freestyle ionic ceramic styler I was expecting more of a curl or loose wave. It made my hair look like I had just blew out my hair with a round brush. I have thick hair that is cut short so it might be better off for thinner or longer hair. If you were wanting stright hair I think it would do well, but not as well as a actual straightener. The one good thing was it did heat up quickly.

Guess I expected too much. The freestyler put out some heat. No curl noted. Did seem to straighten.
Returned..did nothing for my shoulder length hair.
But it! 5

Great styler. Always hard to find products that work on my fine, straight hair. Adds body and shape. Very easy to use.
It's Okay 3

I used a blow dryer brush before using this styler to add more volume, but it just wasn't working for me. Not terrible, but not the greatest thing ever.
Pretty good for the price. 4

I find this a little harder to use than I imagined. It definitely takes practice and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has tangle-prone hair. Your hair has to be very well brushed out and moisturized otherwise it can get stuck in your hair very easily. It is not bad for the price and I like that it is different from many other curlers. The curls do hold up longer than a regular curling iron since the heat reaches every hair. Overall, there is a big learning cure but can pay off in the end for the right people and hair.
Love this 5

I love the freestyle, it gives my hair volume, is easy to use. I can do my hair quickly and have the ability to either straighten with volume (which I like) or curl on just 10 to 15 minutes. I have short fine hair.

Very easy to use. Worth every penny! I'm a beginner at styling/curling my hair and I had no trouble using this product. I can see myself using it everyday. I have medium-long layered hair and I was able to achieve the loose curls I wanted. I 100% recommend this product!
Worth paying for quality! 5

Game changer! It's almost like I have a new hairstyle! I had been purchasing the same brand of brush curling iron for a number of years but the quality became poor and was replacing it more frequently. Example; the bristles would break off and I would find them in my hair or on the floor. This product curls my hair so much better! It has a whole lot of bristles. The handle is comfortable and easy to hold. The end of the iron does not get hot so you can use your hand to guide it if you need to. The cost was twice as much as my old brand but so worth it!
Yes I would buy it again it works great teacher in 5

I am a hairdresser for almost 40 years and this is by far one of the best curlersI have found....EXCEPT...the little spikes broke off after a year...GREAT for traveling too...heats up very fast...little longer to cool off......easy to use on hair UP TO 8 inches....after that go to a bigger brush.......just wish at that price it would last longer......going to try another brand to see if they are better built......shouldn't have to replace at this price every year....I do tell clients that....be prepared to throw out after a year as the little spikes break off......
I would not buy this styler again or recommend 1

I purchased this item within the last 6-8 months . Within 6 months the end cap was loose and fell out and it cannot be screwed back on.
Fell apart after a few months 1

Had the Calista Perfecter for years until it died. Tried this as a replacement and you get what you pay for. Less than 6 months and the end cap was loose and fell out. You can't screw it back on. Never had issues getting my hair stuck but overall quality and value is a waste
I would buy this product again and again. 5

This is so easy to use! I bought it for smoothing out the frizz and broken hair around my face and giving my hair some beachy waves. I wrap my hair around it and pull downward and voila, smooth, loose waves.
Don't believe the negative reviews 5

The only way this gets stuck in the hair is user error. Everyone knows you never EVER wrap your hair all the way around a round brush. And if you do that, it WILL get stuck, and if you do that with this tool, you'll also badly burn your hair and it will be YOUR fault.
This tool is great and I use it almost daily. I love how you can adjust the heat, as my hair is fine and I don't need high heat to curl.
Highly recommend!

Just bad 1

I bought this after seeing it used on TikTok. This is one of the worst irons I've ever used. Hair gets stuck in the iron and it feels like it burns my hair. It's a no. Being returned.
Works great but not very versatile 3

Great for my styling my bangs and curling the ends of my hair but I don't like layers so it's limited the different styles I personally can use it for.
HORRIBLE 1
Tess from Modesto
Absolutely horrible. Your hair gets stuck in the barrel instantly!!!!!! And then burns your hair. The reviews must be fake, bought today, returning tomorrow.
Amazing!! 5

Obsessed with this product. It's my new go to, it's so quick & easy. You get a really polished look in half the time of a regular curling iron.
Horrible, damaged and ruined hair. save your money!!! 1

After seeing this product on different social media apps I was excited to finally get my hands on this product from Ulta. Not even 5 minutes in to my first use this product ripped, burnt a section of hair and I had to cut my hair off the barrel!!! my hair got stuck wrapped around the barrel and mind you I brushed my hair thoroughly before use so there were no knots in my hair initially. With the barrel the way you wrap it, it is very easy to get tangled which happened to a section of my hair which became burnt, matted and I had to cut with scissors. For about 10 minutes a section of my hair was wrapped around the iron barrel at a high temperature. This was Very scary!! I even wrote to the company about this and they were no help!
I would buy this product again and again! 5

I have wavy, frizzy hair and this styling tool is perfect for taming my frizz and adding a nice soft curl. It's easy to use and I like the fact that I can control the temperature.
I am definitely a repeat customer 5

I am super happy with this tool, it doesn't pull my hair, its super gentle but gives dynamite curls or you can go straight.I was concerned about how long it would take to get it coming Australia but it was here within a couple days! I will be buying more for sure. Prices are also awesome!!!

Yes, I do buy the Freestyle Instyler X3 4
anonymous from Hilton Head, SC
I love the way Freestyle Instyler makes my hair look good with little time and trouble. The problem is the Black Tip keeps coming loose. When that happens I tend to burn my fingertips. I cannot screw it back on, glue it back on, or drill something to hold it. See the photo below.
