Initially the application is a little "weird" because it is so different from traditional polish, But it gets easier. I have horrible nails from 2 and a half decades of wearing artificial, everything on them. Nothing lasts. I MAY get 4 days on gel polish but that's a rarity. I am currently at Day 13, (on my first time using the product) and I have no chips, absolutely none, and my mind is blown! Seriously. By far, the absolute best polish I have ever used, and being in the industry, believe me, I've used some polish. I don't know if the top coat can be used over other polishes, but if it can, that alone would be worth your time and $. I would HIGHLY recommend this product, and I have, every time someone compliments me on my manicure. Couple suggestions... Your first application won't be the prettiest, but don't give up. The powder will only stick to the base coat so keep the base coat off your cuticles, and you're golden. Apply VERY thin and even coats. Don't be afraid to use a more coarse file than the one they give you, and don't be afraid to use it. Make sure they're the shape you want before you apply the top coat. Directions tell you to "tap off the excess powder". Don't be afraid to WIPE off the excess. the more coats you apply, the thicker your nails get.
My nails are really fragile, so I purchased this with trepidation. Time will tell whether I made a mistake or not. It does take awhile to do all 10 fingers. I took a break after the first 5 because I don't have 3 straight hours to spend on myself. Yes, 3 hours may be a slight exaggeration, but be prepared to spend a lot more time than regular polish. The product itself is easy enough to use. It does seem like it has a ton of steps, but it isn't that bad. What IS bad is the teeny, tiny brushes in all the bottles. I don't have microscopic nails to match the microscopic brushes. It just occurred to me that THAT might be why it took so dang long to do all 10 nails. You may think smaller brushes make it easier to keep the base product on your nail, but I don't find that to be true (I also tested Revel Nail's powder dip and they have full sized bottles and full sized brushes and I had much better luck with their product). The base coat of this one was actually difficult to keep on my nail and not extend to my cuticles. For the most part, I did okay with my first time ever using powder dip (see pic attached). Only a few mistakes. The brushes are also cheap. They are definitely plastic bristles. All brushes are probably plastic bristles, but these FEEL plastic. I didn't have any problems with the brushes getting hard, but I can see where that can happen if you don't wipe the brush on a lint-free paper towel after each brush stroke. I am also not impressed with the final top coat. It needs to be shinier. Like a fool, I put my own top coat on since I wanted more shine. Shortly after taking my pictures, the top coat started peeling off. Oops. On the up side, it all came off in one piece and the under polish wasn't marred in any way. My last complaint - there aren't enough colors. Which is why I started looking for another product and found Revel Nail. I would definitely go with Revel Nail instead of RCM. Sorry RCM. BTW - color shown is 2 coats of Top Billing.

It take some practice but get a 1/2 dry paint brush and save your manicure time and money. If you dont like acrylic overlay, you wont like this.

Easy to use step by step instructions. I recommend buying a nail drill from a drug store to smooth out bottoms!

I was so excited to use this product I bought three colors. Ummm....let me start by saying all three colors are now in the landfill. There is no way anyone can tell me this isn't just straight up super glue. I remember back in the 80's when superglue nails was basically all we had, it was nothing like it is today with so many options. But anyway, I also bought the pink skin protector stuff, I read the instructions, I watched many videos, I felt prepared. It's like cement, it's ruined my nails! And the worst part was after I put it on, and they day is going on my nails hurt. I mean hurt! And once off they hurt for days. I just don't understand. I waited weeks, maybe months before I had at it again. I followed the instructions and the same thing happened. My nails hurt as the day went on. I don't know what's in this stuff but it's no good. I will never under any circumstances us this or recommend it to anyone. What a waste of money on the whole kit n caboodle.

I like the powders in this kit but the topcoat is the absolute worst. I'm on my 3rd bottle and I can't make it through more than 1 manicure with a bottle. The brush is constantly hardening and 2nd bottle fused shut. Anyways - I'm trying NailBoo or Kierra Sky next instead.

The brushes clump and get hard so quickly. The actual process takes FOREVER. The final look of the nails is not very appealing, they are very clumpy. I will be returning.

I followed directions completely. I had a lot of over product on the edges which felt uncomfortable and it started to chip after 5 days.

I love this product! If you follow the directions then you'll nails will look like they came from a salon. Thin coats is key and make sure you really use the wooden sticks to clean the base coat off before dipping your nail.

I would recommend getting a dip manicure by a professional to watch how it's done before doing it yourself... that said this is a very good product and it works well once you know how the process works. The color that comes with this kid has a pretty, bright red!
Love it but it takes practice from Iowa
I love this set. It took me some time and practice to learn how to do my nails right but after about 3-4 times I had it down and it just kept getting easier after that. I get compliments on my nails all the time and nobody believes I did them myself. I use tips now and can even do a few ombré colors now with the line of colors red carpet has. Been using them since the pandemic started and nail salons closed and never went back to the salons when they reopened.

Got the Dk Grey, 2 coats and was perfect. great product

Great product. Love how my nails turned out and the color that came in the kit is beautiful. A little difficult to do on your self but gets better with practice. Have a friend do it on your nails then you do theirs for a fun girls activity.

after seeing similar products advertised online, i found this at ulta and decided to try it out. i read all the instructions and got started. the first few coats went well, but by the time i got to activator it all went down hill. the brush got so clumpy and hard, it made for a difficult application. the applicator also stung on my nails, (similar to the way a gel manicure stings when in the salon). after putting on the applicator the dip powder became so hard my nails felt like they had super glue stuck on top of them. my cuticles were glued to my nails, and the nail stick was no help trying to separate them. on top of that after moving forward with the top coat my nails felt heavy and stiff like i dipped them in cement. i decided this was an epic fail and tried to take them off, which was another disaster. i filed them down as instructed to "break the seal" and then used the foils to try and soak them off. after waiting for 15 minutes the dip monstrosity didn't even smudge off a little. i tried using cotton soaked in acetone and that seemed to do something as the color on my nails started to turn white, but that was as far as i could go. filing it down more did nothing, using the sticks got me nowhere, and i couldn't even use a nail clipper to try and chip it off (maybe the only redeemable quality if you end up liking this product!! they would not chip or scratch) i ended up in a salon where they had to use the nail drill to file them down, soak them off in acetone and drill more.
the kit was a total flop, besides being hard to
use, the powder was so messy and got everywhere. i returned this to ulta the same day i got it, disappointed in the product and relieved my nails weren't damaged from all the terrible layers.

Takes 8-10 coats between base coat, each dip, activator, top coat. Time is money and it took too much of my time as I am not a professional.

Once I got the hang of it my nails turned out great!
Nikki from south carolina
the brushes clump way to fast! It smells horrible! it didn't come with extra brushes like it said it did! and I love dip nails
Jess from Providence, RI
The dip is easy to use. Acts like a shield to your nails.
First attempt… one cracked under an extreme amount of pressure but every day wear and tear it held up well.
4th use… the top coat is terrible. Didn't add a gloss to the powder. Applied another coat day 2 and turned my nails white. Had to file down the top coat and reapply another brand top coat.

I get my nails done every 2-3 weeks and that gets expensive so I decided to give this a try. I must say my nails look amazing!! It takes some patience to do it but it is worth it if you take the time. I also watched a tutorial video which made a huge difference. I am going on day 4 now and they still look freshly done like I just went to the salon.

I usually do gel nails at home, but have recently seen ads for dip kits, so ran to Ulta this evening to pick up this smaller kit before I really invested, just to see if I liked it. I had checked the reviews but figured it couldn't be THAT bad, but I was wrong.
I was super eager to get started, so I read the instructions and watched videos to make sure I knew how to proceed. I did one nail, and it was pretty good. I thought it looked nice and didn't feel like it took that long, in spite of the many steps. The top coat just wasn't very shiny, but it was something I could deal with. Then as I went along, doing one nail at a time, the base coat brush started drying out and got clumped together, which made the application splotchy, even though I made sure to put it back in the bottle immediately between steps. The kit was missing the extra brushes that were supposed to be included as well, so I couldn't use the brush softener and finish. Then the top coat brush started doing the same, and it just all went downhill from there!!! I did one hand and one finger on the other, then gave up. I agree with the others, that the products must be made from straight up super glue, and the smell actually gave me a headache, which is still persisting as I write this. There were also moments that the top coat and base coat stung my skin, which can't be a good sign. Definitely not "non-irritating" as the box suggests. I can't imagine how long it would've taken to finish, and doing gel nails with a light can take a decent amount of time, so I'm used to that. I don't think this is worth the literal headache! I'm disappointed and will be returning later this week, as soon as I get this all soaked off! : (((

I was super exited to try this! The activator brush completely fell apart while using.

I have always been one to have acrylics done but decided to try something else. I did my 7yr olds nails and mine and had no issues like mentioned in some other reviews. my top and base coats did not clump but I did one nail at a time before I did the final activator and top coat step! I think with some practice I will have found myself a new nail solution, the time it took was minimal compared to sitting at the salon! I would definitely recommend this for someone who has some knowledge in the dip process because it is lengthy but if you can follow instructions this is for you! My only complaint is the file is not rough enough to really smooth any bumps and there is no Erase included for removal but this can be purchased separately

These dont stay on. 3 days is all I can get because the product pops off. Mostly my real nail gets bent backwards when this happens! Not thrilled at all. I've been trying for 3 weeks. I'm over it.
Kristi from NC
I used this for the first time and I do like the product however I'm guessing my activator leaked during shipment. Opened the box to a strong smell but didn't think too much about it since it is a nail product. Went to use the activator and had to literally turn it on its side to get product. I had already started so pretty much too late to stop. I was barely able to finish both hands before the bottle was compley dry. So just a heads up to check all your bottles before starting. I would have definitely sent this back for a new one. Overall my nails turned out great.
sav009 from Tx
Tried this for the first time today and I'm already in LOVE! This is super easy (this is coming from someone who can barley paint their nails) and it will save you some $$$! The powder dip will last you forever also! I can't wait to do my nails again. They look just like when I get them done at a salon! Can't say enough good things about this.

I had visited my local Ulta store, which was my first time in any Ulta store. I normally shop online and thought I would see what Ulta had to offer. As I was getting ready to leave, I saw this nail kit by the front. I asked for help, a store manager was very brief and didn't know much about the product. She told me that the instructions was in the box, if I didn't like it, I could return it. I thought might as well try it out! I went to pay for it and was asked if I would like to apply for an Ulta card. I had asked what the interest rates was, which I was told none, it was like using my credit card. Meanwhile, I was aiming to return the kit because the Base coat dries up before you can finish both hands. You must apply the base coat 2-3 times per nail. I thought the Base was maybe old. I order another online along with another top coat only to see that it is the Base coat that dries to the wand very fast. I switched the wand over to the cleaner bottle that comes with this kit. The cleaner did clean the harden brush. However, after using the base coat again, it started harden up after I dipped it in the bottle twice. I am now unable to return due to I was charged on that interest free Ulta card. I am not happy being told differently when I signed up for the card. I don't recommend the kit unless you have plenty of time to work with the Base coat. Then removing the polish is a mess! You have to wrap each nail in foil 2-3 times to remove the polish and wait for at least 20 minutes before it budges, and may have to repeat. The idea is great but the formula isn't thought out right. I am very confident in doing my own nails and makeup, this brand is a big no for me. I am working with the bank to close out the misinformed information I was given when I applied for the credit card.

The top coat came all dried up. There is no remover in the kit. Waste of money. I would love to return this product. Don't waste your money.
