The Holy Trio Starts With This Wonderful Shampoo I have almost 6 year-old, waist-length, sisterlocks (700+ microlocs), 4c, high-porosity hair, living in a dry climate (avg 28% humidity). I bought the oil, shampoo, and conditioner. Yes I condition my locs. I hadn't found the right conditioner for my hair for quite some time. My hair sings when I use this glorious Melanin trio: shampoo, conditioner, and oil. My hair is soft for days! I kept saying 'Whose hair is this?' after the first time I used the holy Melanin trio. I could easily go for 3-7 days without washing despite living in a very dry climate because the Melanin trio makes locs in moisture like nothing else I've used before. The key is in the clarifying shampoo, I believe
This African black soap shampoo smells delicious, minty and rich like chocolate. It reminds me of using those clay washes Whitney showed us on Youtube back in the day! Yet this is much more more water soluble, easier to apply, and more effective than clay. The scent and feel of my hair while the shampoo tingles the scalp and deep cleans is wonderful. This clarifying shampoo really cleans the hair without leaving it stripped/damaged. African black soap is very nourishing, gentle, and clarifying.
Then I use the conditioner. It is very light and washes out easily, exactly what I need for my locs. It too has a minty feelings. The hair easily absorbs the conditioner, and it truly softens the hair. I leave the conditioner in only for 3 minutes and then wash it out because I rarely need to deep condition my locs. Lastly I dry my hair and add more conditioner as a leave in, about two pumps full. Then I add the oil. The oil is my dear favorite of the trinity. This OIL!!! Yes, Queen! Let me testify. This oil right here is IT! It is the perfect light hair oil. This absorbs in the hair, sealing in moisture, without any greasy/oily fealing. My hair is weightless, soft, and smells edible (like a chocolate, mint ice cream) after using the trinity. The shampoo and conditioner have a delicious mint smell, and the oil has a more mild smell that reminds me of baby oil, a really nice scent combination after a shower. I feel very relaxed after the whole occasion, like a spa day.
I wash my hair twice a week, and so far the large sized bottles for all three have been lasting me, mind you I have very long hair and lots of it. I'm happy with these products, and I will make this line my forever line. It's one of those lines where you hope they keep the secret formula locked away, unchanged for the test of time. I love it! Thank you Whitney, just what we needed!
Not buying again Initially I loved this shampoo. It lathers well and the scent of the African Black Soap is very pleasing. After weeks of use, I noticed my hair getting drier, duller and more tangled. My curls were not bouncy anymore but rather very stretch out. It was like a constant build up on my hair like soap scum that builds up in the bathroom if you don't use strong cleaner (like Chlorox, Oxyclean, etc...). Then it occurred to me that I need to clarify. I use another well known brand that has a product specifically for build up (you ladies know what I'm talking about) and my curls came bouncing right back.
Now, I love Melanin Haircare's leave-in condition and the Twist-Elongating Style Cream and will continue to use both as my staple. But the Shampoo is no good in the long run. Sorry Whit, I love you and hang on your every word regarding hair but this shampoo is a miss.
Love but maybe not as much for my hair type. 3

I have relatively fine curly 2c-3b hair and I am currently on the last 2/3 of my bottle and i have a few opinions. I live for the design, sometimes it gets a bit stuck but im able to actually get in between my hair and directly to my scalp. I dont think this is for dry scalps in my opinion. I typically oil my scalp for a few hours before i wash my hair and when i dont do that it can be a bit stripping. However when i do, it works perfectly.
Overall, it's definitely worth the price. Ive had this bottle for months and i can see this product working perfectly for thick coarse hair as well as oily and flaky hair!
Great shampoo for a clean slate on your hair wash day 5

I have fine high porosity type 3c texlaxed hair. I've tried MANY sulfate-free shampoos on the market, and none of which ever seem to "clean" my hair, but just add a coating. In a shampoo I want it to CLEAN my hair and scalp (reset/get rid of product buildup) and not add anything to it as that's what a conditioner/deep conditioner and leave-ins/stylers are for. I received and tried this shampoo today, and I love it! It really deep cleans the hair without being 100% "stripped". I would recommend always follow up with a good deep conditioner after using this shampoo though (am using the deep conditioner from this line as I type). For my hair type, I could use this on my weekly wash day, but for other courser hair types, maybe use once or twice a month or whatever works for your hair type. Definitely a good product!
GREAT CLARIFIER 5

i use this pretty often especially when i use heavy stylers or have a lot of build. i also double cleanse so it will feel a little stripped. HOWEVER, if you go in with the multi use conditioner or anyone with slip you'll be fine. i love this shampoo
Love it! 5

Ive had this product for about 2 months and wash my hair 1 every week. A little goes a long way and it smells great while you also feel the tingling from the peppermint and other ingredients, ina good way that is. I think the amount of the product is worth price!!
Best shampoo on the market 5

This is really good for clarifying the hair but can also be drying. I love that you can put the product directly on the scalp. This also last a really long time and is worth every penny. This has become a staple product.
