I reviewed this product for free from BzzAgent in exchange for my honest review. I have no bias towards this brand and all of my thoughts and opinions are my own. With that being said, let's get into the review! I have fine but dense curly hair that goes to my shoulders, and I would say that my head... is pretty average sized lol. The tube is a decent size, for reference it's a little bit smaller than a water bottle. I was a little worried about trying a chemical exfoliant on my scalp because I had tried out the Verb Ghost exfoliant and it irritated my scalp for a few days. However, this did not cause any issues for me! As soon as I unscrewed the cap and squeezed some of the product out to see what it looked like, I was a bit surprised to see that the Scalp Detox was clear and liquidy. There are no exfoliating beads, so if you prefer that then you probably won't enjoy this as much as a scalp scrub.The smell is very strong — personally I love the smell of menthol and anything minty and cooling so this was right up my ally, but if you are sensitive to menthol then avoid this because this is loaded with it! Once you apply it on your scalp there is an instant cooling and minty sensation that gets more noticeable the longer you leave it on. Because I have curly hair getting an even application was very difficult especially with the concentrated applicator. I get the appeal of the applicator but personally, I hate it. It's hard to section dry textured hair and it felt like I had to use half the bottle just to try and cover my entire scalp. There was still parts of my scalp that felt like it didn't get any product on it. I ended up just pouring some in my hand to apply it. I left it on for both 8 and 10 minutes, and personally prefer the full 10 minutes. When I shampooed my hair it definitely felt like I was getting a better clean — my shampoo seemed more sudsy and the rest of my hair just felt clean and my conditioner felt like it was absorbing better. Even after rinsing, shampooing and conditioning, you can still feel the cooling sensation which adds to the experience. I loved that my scalp felt so minty and fresh even after I was out of the shower. I would say that the cooling effect from the Scalp Detox lasts for around 10 minutes, and then it fades away. dpHUE claims that this is colorsafe, and a few days prior I had gotten my highlighted blonde hair toned, so I was anxious to see how that claim would hold up. Unfortunately, I feel like it stripped the toner out of my hair, so I disagree. I was not very happy about that and I'm going to have to go back to the salon soon. But I will admit that because my toner was only a few days old, I should have waited a little longer. Do not use this on fresh color or toner! While the ACV Scalp Detox did feel amazing and made my scalp feel clean initially, I didn't feel like it actually did anything for product buildup or oiliness. After only a day or so my scalp felt like it still had buildup and it was difficult to run my hands through it when I wet my hair (which only happens to me when my hair has product buildup). Overall, I feel like this is a product to add to an already solid haircare routine for a luxurious experience or just to soothe the scalp and to gently exfoliate it to encourage blood flow — I have noticed that my hair seems to be growing a tiny bit faster (my highlights allow me to see exactly how much my hair has grown), but nothing insane. I'm still unsure if I would repurchase this but I will absolutely finish it because the experience is very nice and if I could use this more often, I would. If dpHUE released a serum similar to the BREAD Beauty exfoliating serum I think I would purchase it, but if I was looking to get a deep clean for my scalp I would rather reach for a clarifying shampoo, but if you have thinner hair and don't struggle with a lot of product buildup, then I think this would be more effective. I think this is also for those willing to splurge this is definitely a nice way to treat yourself. This is not a bad product by any means, but I knocked off a star because for me personally, I found application to be a bit difficult, and it did not have any lasting benefits for my scalp other than soothing and potentially encouraging hair growth.
